Clifton Hollow Golf Club
About
The Clifton Hollow golf course first opened in 1974 with just nine holes. The second nine was added in 1987 and since then it has become a cornerstone for western Wisconsin and Twin Cities golfers. The tough golf course has a mix of subtle and overt challenges. The seemingly gentle fifth hole is the course's signature. This par 3 plays from a slightly elevated tee to a sloped, undulating green that is surrounded by mature oak trees on either side. The final hole is also a par 3 but it has earned the title of being the "Monster of Clifton." It's a lengthy one at 637 yards, featuring the longest fairway and largest green on the golf course. With plenty of room for different pin placements, your putting skills will be put to the test.

Friendly place, some challenging holes
Everyone was nice course is in fabulous shape with more improvements coming I am told
Thank you for the great review!
Great Course
We are always happy to play this course. As a matter of fact we play here more than any of the other courses we play during the golf season.
odd groupings
got behind a sixsome in 3 carts, had to jump them....then got behind 3 guys in 2 carts, one bag of clubs between them...
Thank you for your review. We're working on controlling groups like these in order to make the experience more enjoyable.
Friendly Atmosphere
Have not played yet this year but have so for a good number of years. All I can say is that it is one of the best courses from the friendly atmosphere to the ground maintenance - could go on and on. Love it there.
Very enjoyable
This was my first time playing this course and enjoyed it from the time I walked into the clubhouse until the time I left. Staff was very friendly (and very nice to look at), the course was fun to play and well maintained. I will definitely be playing this course again.
Great Golf Course
My wife and I played this course on a visit to Minneapolis/St Paul. This is a great layout. After about the 4th hole it reminded me of a Donald Ross design even though it was built in the 70's. The bent grass fairways were in relatively good shape even though they had some burnt spots due to the difficult summer. The greens were perfect, very true & fast. We really enjoyed this course. This is a hidden gem in the MSP area.
We really appreciate you taking the time to leave a review! Please come and see us again on your next visit!
A great time and a great value!
We went out even though it was threatening rain. It sprinkled a little bit but we had a great time because the course was in super condition. The staff was very friendly, the carts were extremely clean and the driving range was convenient and also in good condition. The clubhouse offered everything we needed and then some. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Thank you so much for the great review, Cindy! We love hearing that our golfers enjoy their time with us and we hope to see you again soon!
Standard Course with Wood-Fired Pizzas
The layout was just fine; nothing crazy or gimmicky, unless you include the 3 or 4 short par 4's (from the blues: 307, 345, 260, and 309). The 260 yard par 4 played more like a very long par 3; definite birdie hole. However, there was also a 472 yard par 4 (par 5 from the whites) and a 637 yard par 5.
The speed of the greens was moderate; neither fast nor slow.
The sparse tree lines on most holes was probably the most challenging part of the course, although it was fairly thin. Other than the trees, it was pretty open with a number of generous fairways.
Only disappointment was some of the course conditions:
Many of the fairways had tons of brown dead spots covering a fairly large portion of the fairway.
The greens all seemed to have quite a lot of fixed ball marks on them, which could throw off your putt if one was in your line.
And about half of the bunkers were completely flooded.
Also, we did not try their wood-fired pizzas but they looked and smelled far superior to your average golf course food standards. We would definitely try one next time.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, tlm17! We really appreciate the feedback. We're continuously working to improve and perfect our conditions. But we can certify that our pizzas can't be beat and we hope you'll come back to try them soon.
Not very good
Most fairways wherein poor shape
We're sorry that you didn't enjoy your round with us, Bob. We're continuously working to perfect our conditions and we hope you'll play us again in the future.
Slow round!
Course didn't inform me of scramble they put me behind. Good value for price I booked on Golfnow. Playing 18 from the blues is a challenging 632 yard hole. Course has a few short par 4s that are drivable.
Thanks for the review and we apologize for not giving you a warning about the scramble ahead of you. We hope this will not deter you from coming and playing with us again in the future.
parched
90 degrees out....no bev cart, all on course water jugs empty...not good.....fairways showing great stress...winter rules required
We apologize for the water jugs being empty and will work on a solution for this problem. Thank you for letting us know where our course could see improvement. We will address your feedback internally. In the meantime, we hope your experience with us will not deter you from coming back and playing another round with us!
No gimmicks
Great course for an enjoyable round of golf
We're thrilled to hear it! Thanks for playing. Hope to see you again soon!
Clifton Hollow
Gal inside the clubhouse was very nice. She let me off early and I played with a very nice guy. Was a little slow on the back nine.
Thank you for your 5 Star review! We are happy to hear you had a good experience with us and hope you decide to come back and play again soon.
Nice country course!
This course has a nice layout that makes you think twice about pulling out the driver.
Thanks for the review! We're glad you enjoyed our course and its layout. Please come back and play with us again soon.
Clifton Hollow
Course was in good shape girl at the front desk was very nice but went back in and the guy was kinda short.
Thank you for your review and feedback. We appreciate your time. Hope to see you on the course again soon!
Fun to plaY & not difficult
Fun course to play. Generous fairways and misses still playable on most holes. Good course for intermediate to higher handicap or beginning player. Course well maintained & greens decent rolling at moderate speed. Course can be buggy from mid summer on, so bring bug spray.
Thank you for the great review and tips, Scrapiron! We hope to see you again soon!
always great
always a great time. from the smile and laughter when i check in to the great hot dogs they serve, to the smile and thank you at the end. i pass 3 courses to go there 15 times a year. give it a try
We really appreciate the kind words, Derek! We love to hear from our golfers!
Beautiful course
My only regret was not bringing my bug spray. On holes that were bordering the wooded areas these annoying biting gnats were eating me alive. Woman in the clubhouse was friendly and the course itself was in great shape for early May. Quite a few shorter par 4s and limited hazards are good for a 25 handicap like myself. I'll be back.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, sauernj! We're sorry to hear about those dang gnats but we're glad that your round was enjoyable otherwise. We hope to see you again soon! Bring your Off :)
Fun course
I would highly recommend Clifton Hollow. The staff is very friendly as well.
Thanks for your great review! We always strive to improve the golf experience and hope to see you again soon.
Thanks for your input. That bunker posed a logistical problem for us and has since been fixed. I hope you'll consider coming back and checking out the finished product....from the fairway anyways ;-)
