A Quirky little layout in suburban Melbourne

I came along to Box Hill with no expectations. I walked away pleased for the experience. This is a tight, quirky little course that weaves itself through Box Hill parkland that makes the most of the space available.

The front nine is a tight little test with two short par 4s and some long par 5s with tight fairways. The course generally features smallish greens with nice bunkering. No excessive breaks or mounds on the green except for the 18th.

The back nine has a few more expansive holes that look to have been redeveloped. The 13th has new fairway and green side bunkering. Squint and The bright white sand and bunker shapes remind one of Augusta.

I quite liked the aspect of 15 and 16, both short par 4s, the first of which requiring an iron off the tee (water before green), and the second with your tee shot right back against bordering properties.

There are some long and winding walks between holes (through the club car park!), and a shared tee box, but unavoidable given the space they have available.

It was a sunny autumn day, but I can see the course getting muddy in the depths of winter.

Nice pro shop and bar. They have the one armed bandits and TAB for sports betting if that’s your go.

A nice members golf course
