Excellent Course
Staff were great and very friendly, even advised me before hand with a phone call that due to the bad weather buggies were not available.
Always enjoyed playing this course although not a winter course due to weather.
Slow pace. Good condition
Women's comp on so play was very slow, 4 and a half hours for the round. Greens very good. Varied holes. Ground could do with a bit more drainage in places. Had alot of plugged balls. But would happily play again so it's a thumbs up over all.
Really Enjoyable and good value
Pleasant course in great condition with nice par 3s. Number of blind shots however and signage could be improved to next tee. Very good value for the green fee
Casual round on Castle Hume
A very pleasant round for my wife and myself on Castle Hume. Easy to navigate between holes. Maps on the tee boxes helped identify unseen water hazards. Straight driving essential as most holes are tree lined. Some greens are hard to hit as they are shaped like upturned saucers but rewarding when you do find the green. No green seemed to be flat. Most have steep undulations and this is a real test of putting skills. The ground was a bit claggy when we visited, with a number of shots plugging. Great fun though. The club pro and green staff were all well mannered and welcoming, the latter shutting down their equipment as we took our shots. No catering at the clubhouse due to Covid but we got a terrific lunch at the Erne Resort. Looking forward to coming back to tackle the Faldo course.
Nice course but long rough
Nice course but the combination of long rough and wet grass means you ball gets plugged in the rough and you won't find it, lost so many balls just a few yards off the fairway
Good course but needs a makeover
I always wanted to play this course having driven past it so many times. The course itself was quite good but it is in desperate need of some TLC. It seems as though all the attention is now on lough erne and they've let it go somewhat. The lakes or lack there of are almost all bone dry which leaves a dire look on the course. The riverbeds were mostly bone dry too and the bridges around the course all need a lick of paint. It looks like they haven't been looked after in years. A lot of the tee boxes were uneven and had very little grass to speak of on them.
So the course itself is quite nice and has a good layout to it but it could do with some love put in to it to make it a better course.
Risky Dirty fun at Castle Hume
This is a strange one. There is a great layout here with some strong holes and nice views. The greens weren’t bad to putt on once you got on them. However, a few issues.
I once accidentally wanted onto an army firing range. The quality of golfer here and layout meant that the shouts of fore send golfers flying for cover, great to watch.
My face was like a 3 mile jockey in heavy ground as the tees exploded mud as I crushed the ball off the tee.
Now you’ll say I should have clubbed one extra but it was frustrating hitting good shots and plugging on the front of a green.
Should have listens to the pro who told us to play another course. This could be a very good course but my advice is to play the Faldo twice unless there has been a couple of dry weeks.
Poor Conditions
The course itself was a really good test of golf.
But!!!
The condition of the course was absolutely ridiculously wet. On at least 3 occasions 2 of our 4 ball hit great drives and lost them due to being plugged on the fairway.
Two greens were completely water logged and the majority weren’t much better. I guess we knew something was up when we couldn’t hire buggies as the pro told us it was to wet. The course should have been closed full stop, no questions asked. We came in after 13 mucky holes. Very disappointing.
But if it had have been anyway dry it would have been a pretty good course.
Designed well over small area
Not impressed....designed well over a small area, used to playing more challenging courses like Rathcore, Headfort & Farnham.....doesn't hold a candle to any of the above mentioned.
