The King & Bear Course at World Golf Village is named for its designers, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. It is the first and only collaboration between the two legendary golfers. Combining the contrasting styles of the two designers created a challenging course that incorporates features from both traditional Scottish-links courses and new traditions in American golf. The course is known for the numerous lakes bordered by large coquina rock that come into play throughout. The front nine is dotted with loblolly pines while decades-old oak trees provide shade for the back nine. In addition to King & Bear, World Golf Village also offers another excellent 18-hole course, Slammer & Squire.

Best Iced apples

The complimentary iced apples on the first and tenth made my round! I booked a hot deal through golf now and had two other awesome playing partners. We played in the morning in under 4 hours. There are some very awesome holes and I am planning on playing here again tomorrow. Wish I could get as good of a deal on the Slammer & Squire course.

Love the practice facility

If you like to practice before your round, arrive early. Range balls are complimentary and should be for the cost of the green fees. Nice chipping area and large practice green. Found that the speed of the practice green was a close match to the course greens. Plenty of friendly rangers to keep up the pace of play. Played it once before paying full rack rate, and said it wasn't worth that cost. When I saw the 48% discount on GolfNow, I jumped at the chance to play it again and am glad I did. Impeccable course condition.

Worth a one time play

The course was not as good as I would have imagine it to be. The workers were only so/so, the pace was terrible as we waited on 16 of 18 holes. The design was nice, but there are better in Fla for the price. Use Golfnow to get discount because it would not be worth paying the full price. I played S&S a few years ago and liked it better. As far as recommending to a friend maybe just to say you played WGV, but not because of the course itself.

Great day of golf

Took my friend to the King and Bear for his birthday and we had a great time. We were paired with a couple from London and the wife, who is 70 years old, scored a 77. Amazing time!

Great Course in Great Weather at a good price on Golfnow!

This course was fantastic. The greens and fairways were awesome! The marshals were great. The weather was great in the end of October.
The only downers are Golfnow still shows that the course has GPS included and it does not...and this course is a little higher priced than the sister course the Slammer and the Squire but does not clean your clubs or include a shuttle from or to your car... so im just not sure why it would be higher priced?

beautiful layout

When I booked this tee time for myself and three senior friends from out of state, I didn't have a clue that the course would be CART PATH ONLY due to overseeding. Had I known this in advance, we would not have booked it. Since the fees were paid on line,we couldn't get a refund,so we went ahead and played, as we were already there. Two of my guests are super seniors(both 78). They were not happy golfers, and could not finish the round,or play the next day. This course carrys a pretty hefty fee, even through Golf Now, and I feel we should have been notified prior to booking,or at the booking process.
We highly recommend the course to others ,but are very discouraged with Golf Now right at this moment, and will take precautions before booking again.

Walked

No Dining Option

The coarse is very nice, but was not told when made the reservation a few days prior to my arrival that they had over-seeded and it was path only. I understand the reason for that, but find it unacceptable to not be told that as a disclaimer. Arrived at the coarse expecting to have breakfast, options were a muffin or a heated sandwich.

CART PATHS ONLY!!!!

We were not aware that the cart paths only rule was in effect because it was being over-seeded with rye grass, not because it was wet. Actually, it was dry. I have a bad knee and problem achilles tendon. If I'd known of the cart restriction I would not have booked the round. The course is very sprawling and hilly and sometimes a hike of 80-100 (round trip) yards was required to play a shot. It took our twosome 2 hours 40 minutes to play the front nine because of all of the walking. There were no other players on the course in from of us. I asked two of the pro shop staff to allow 90 degree rule but was denied because of over-seeding with rye grass seed. The Additionally, the bunkers are extremely deep. Hitting a shot from them is not a problem, stepping into the bunkers is the problem, usually presenting a step down of at least 2-3 feet. Usually bunkers have a low point from which to enter, these bunkers did not. Over all we had a lousy experience. only played 14 holes.

The Rave & Rant

The Rave:
The day we played course was in very good shape w/some wet(muddy) spots due to thundershowers typical of Atlantic coast for time of year we played. This course is very challenging from any tee and I would not recommend for beginners or high handicappers. If you are a straight hitter or can work the ball then I would recommend. There is water on every hole that can come into play. There are many deep bunkers and rough. The design of course due to the architects renowned world wide was superior! FWs and greens very fast and smooth. We rode a cart. The course was ours and we took time to search for ammo. We were not molested by marshal's for our slow play not once! We finished in 4:45. Excellent customer service, very friendly staff!!

The Rant:
. The course is too penal for even mid handicappers if you miss the FW - I am a 13 currently. I believe this is due to the cut of fairway\rough. I hit several shots just off FW missing by only feet and lost my ball 6 times due to height of the Bermuda. For a resort course they need IMHO to have multiple cuts FW - 1st(at 2"# if missing by only 5< feet, maybe a 3rd? I still shot a 88 from the 2nd longest tee. I birdied 3 times and shot par on several holes.
For paying 130+$ for our round #I played on a Wednesday at 1pm# there was no GPS, no ice in chest #90+ deg. day# no ball or club cleaner#I'll explain shortly# on cart, & very hard to dislodge brake on cart because of type when wearing spikes\cleats.
I played the LPGA International in Daytona for $43 and cart w\GPS included ice chest filled w\ice and 2 bottles of water, and a ball & club cleaner. The Hills course was very challenging w\long carries over swamp. The Rees is a links and tough too! The best value we experienced & excellent customer service. The rangers were just plain funny with course descriptions!!

For rants above contrasted to LPGA tracks I can only IMHO give a below average score.

Superb from start to finish!

Played King and Bear for many years and in my experience this place takes a lot of beating! Course itself if a great layout, challenging but fair, and with the different tee options there is a distance to suit all abilities.

Clubhouse and pro shop are excellent. Showers are available also which is a great touch after a warm day on the course. Towels and toiletries are provided. A class touch.

Course itself was in very good condition. One point of note is that the greens have been top dressed with sand, but impressively this had no impact on the speed of greens and became unnoticeable after a couple of holes.

Overall a wonderful course, great setting and friendly staff. What more could you ask for!?

Clubhouse Opening Hours

We had a mid afternoon tee time, on finishing our round, we returned to find the clubhouse locked and alarmed !! Our shoes were in the locker room so we had to locate someone who was able to gain access.
Which also ment we were unable to have any type of refreshment or freshen up.
Have to say that the on course staff were outstanding.
