Nice little Outer suburban track
I played a very pleasant round in wintry conditions at Waterford Valley. Some parts of the course were quite muddy, especially the 6th, but for winter it was nothing to complain about. In summer this course would be an absolute pleasure to play with it’s nice Santa Ana fairways and what would be fast greens. Some of the green complexes offer quite the slope and undulation - would be interesting to see what stroke play options this would provide in firm conditions.
As per the name, there are several holes where water comes into play. The long par 5 8th is a tough hole requiring accuracy off the tee, a long iron and a solid wedge. None of the par fives here offer any easy birdie opportunities. Genuine par 5s. The 18th is an excellent finishing hole with an intimidating tee shot to a tight fairway - water and bunkers left - and a water and sand guarded green.
There are also a couple of nice shorter par 4s that won’t allow you just to bomb away with your driver.
It’s a nice day out in the burbs
The putting and chipping area were nice, however the driving range was closed due to bogginess. Good club facilities otherwise.
