Colonial Charters Golf Club
About
Colonial Charters Golf Club (formerly known as Palmetto Greens) is located in Longs, S.C. near Myrtle Beach. It has a laid-back atmosphere and is known for its consistently good conditions. The layout will test your accuracy with narrow, fairways and a variety of water hazards and sand traps. Golfers will encounter water on nearly every hole, two of them feature greenside waterfalls. There are also several strategically placed bunkers throughout the golf course and mature hardwoods line the fairways. There are a few challenging holes but overall it is player friendly enough for any skill level to approach with confidence. In addition to the golf course, Colonial Charters Golf Club has a practice facility with a driving range and chipping and putting areas. For those who are still learning, there are PGA Professionals available for lessons.

Would not recommend
In general the greens were in very poor shape, The layout is very weird. and takes about 10 minutes to drive your cart to, Most of the back was in poor shape with poor irrigation. There are some challenging holes, but this does not make up for the very poor conditions,
Course in great shape.
The greens and fairways are in great shape with very plush rough. This is a challenging course with water on all but two holes. The condition of the course has greatly improved over the past year. Staff friendly and helpful. It’s a great place to bring a group for golf and food and beverages.
What a Difference
Played here a couple of years ago and was not pleased, however, today I was totally amazed at how well this course has come back. Fairways full of grass and full greens. Great value for the money and I would suggest it to anyone.
Disapointed
I admit, I should have done my research on this course but needed a cheap place to play and I got it. Staff was very friendly and regulars were "charming". Mary makes the best bfast sandwiches around. the course however was not in good shape. the T boxes were rock hard and the the greens were terrible, most I would consider unplayable. construction and noise everywhere! Hope it gets better.
Pull cart friendly
My wife and I are constantly searching for golf courses in the. Myrtle Beach area that allow you to walk the course. Colonial Charters allows you to walk in the afternoon after 1:30 which is a great feature. Be advised that this is a lengthy course. The course is in great shape, the greens were fast and well maintained. Friendly and accommodating staff. Will definitely go back.
First time @Colonial Charter Golf Club
This review is good & not so good. First of all let me say the Manager was friendly & helpful. The course has some very good & some poor holes. The #1 handicap hole is a bad design with no place to play your tee shot. A few holes I felt like the course was in the way of their subdivision building projects. I would play this course again, if I got a great deal
Not much of a golf course...
Played this on the last day very cheaply and at the very last minute when I wasn't sure the weather was going to get warm enough to play. It's not much of a course, so I wouldn't recommend it. Very easy and boring front 9. Fairways were okay, rate them a 6. Greens were very small, in pretty poor condition, with lots of ball marks and missing patches of grass, rate them a 3. Traps rate a 5. Tees weren't too bad, but grass was very long and needed cutting bad. It's a very short course, even from the tips. Many of the holes play considerably shorter than scorecard says they do. Back 9 is considerably better than the front inasfar as design, but condition notsomuch. Just can't recommend playing here unless a last resort. Lots of condos around the course and lots of new construction going in also. Very nice clubhouse and decent practice green, but no driving range. The clubhouse belongs at a course waaaay better than what's there. Course has a cheap muni feel to it.
Turf Quality
Cons: The turf quality really hurts this course. You want to know that you'll be rewarded by hitting the fairways with a cleaner shot, but the turf is not much different than the rough. Some of the greens are in very bad shape also. Not as big of a deal, but still detracting from the looks, is the debris all over the place on parts of the course. On one of the long par 3s, the yardage was off as much as 20 yards from the marking. I would highly recommend going out with a range finder.
Pros: The staff were nice, the play was quick, and the course was quite challenging.
Big Surprise
This course has really come into it's own. What a change from 2 years ago. The golf is challenging and the value is unbeatable. Mark this one down as one of your "must play" courses when in the area.
Had some great holes
I was a little worried when I booked this course, based on what other people I had talked to had said. We found the course to be in great shape and I loved the designs of some the holes. I did not play it as well as I could have, but all that was operator error. We will play this course on every trip to Myrtle Beach. The staff was so friendly and courteous. I would recommend this course to my friends.
Great time, friendly staff
Had a good time even though only made it through 9 holes due to T-storms. Played with one of the members he was friendly and very helpful. The staff was great also. Nice to go to a course and get treated well even if you are an outsider. Couldn't ask for anything better.
Great Layout
Course needs a little attention but a great value for the buck. Very nice layout.
Worst course in Myrtle Beach
Only played 4 holes and left. Course was in horrible condition and greens had big bare spots. Cart paths were terrible. Stay away from this place. If it were free I wouldn't play there!
Colonial Charters in Very Good Shape
The staff is working hard to bring this course up to 4/5 condition. The course is nicely manicured, clean, and very playable. Overall, the course is in the best condition I have see it in several years. I would highly recommend this course as it will challenge the best players!
Conditions
I am member here! I would like to say they are trying to turn the corner here at Colonial Charters. The condition are much better than they were at the beginning of May . Right now all but 5 greens are back . Weeds are gone. The traps and fairways are maintained better. Jim Brown and Staff are working hard to get this course back. There was a time that I didn't think it was going to happen. But you would be pleasantly surprised! Keep up the good work...
Going downhill
I've played here a few times in recent years. This was the worst condition I've seen the course. Fairways, tee boxes, bunkers were tolerable but the greens were horrible. Maybe they will turn it around but it gives the appearance of a course that's on the way out.
1st Round after a long winter!
Can't really complaint for $15 green fee include electric golf cart. Book last minute on Golf Now.
Colonial Charters
Fairways, cart tracks and green need maintenance. Course layout is nice. When we played we were teamed with a couple of members who played very fast and we let them play ahead. We played the next holes atrociously and left after 9 holes.
Reasonable rates
Whave plyed here many times in the past. The course is under new management and was more crowded than previously. We really like the layout with many interesting holes, but the course conditions leave a lot to be desired, and cart paths are in major need of repair.
Don't Go Out of Your Way
I played this course because I had never been there before and GolfNow had a tee time available for $12.00 per player. First off, the staff was great and the two gentlemen we were paired with were great guys. However, the course was in pretty rough condition. It was cart path only due to soggy conditions. Under any conditions the greens were terrible. More dirt showing than grass. Bunkers were OK. This course is very short. Approximately 6000 yds from the white tees and 6500 from the tips. I guess it would play well for ladies and seniors. Not a very scenic course. #7, 8 and 9 have had all the trees cut out for some reason. Lot of nicer courses in the vicinity.
