Little Gem
Lovely course that plays longer than 5500 yards, The only negative was the poor greens. But a member told us before we played. It is a tough walk so you might want to hire a buggy if you have any mobility issues.
The par 3’s are excellent especially the 2d. Will definitely play again.
1st Time Beginner at Monmouth
Great friendly welcome on arrival which led to the start of a fantastic morning, beautiful course in good condition. As a beginner some of the lies on the undulating course a personal challenge the fairways and semi rough mown areas in great condition. Some very good elevated tees greens in good condition
In all would definitely return and recommend to anyone if you struggle walking have a buggy but just enjoy the course and scenery.
Overall good
Lovely staff. Reduced facilites but that’s COVID for you so not their fault.
Course is in good condition except the greens which were patchy and slightly long making putting very frustrating. Took us 9 holes to learn to whack the ball hard enough.
Very hilly course which certainly adds an element!! Not for the feint hearted. Would play here again for sure.
Lovely course, great views and friendly locals
I like this course because it challenges you on every hole, it’s not a course where the you can bludgeon it off the tee with driver every hole. You need to think your way round. It tests all aspects of your game including your fitness because there are some challenging climbs up the hills. Also the staff and locals always make you feel welcome. Give it a try, it’s worth it.
ex member sad to see its demise
I once was a member, started playing here when it was 9 holes, went on to learn my golf on what could be called "the prettiest golf course in south wales" but after 25 years returned and oh how disappointing! the course still has a great layout and the saplings have developed into mature trees, which makes the course look full and mature and with the fairways clipped and in good condition all should have been hunky dory? but boy! whoever has been writing recent reviews raise my eyebrows, as the bread and butter of any course are the greens and bunkers and they were the worst i have ever seen!! have all the green keepers left??? greens were covered with black areas, with what looked like failing grass seed scattered on them, the bunkers had NO sand, were mud pits with hundreds of weeds in them and I ask myself, "who would compete or visit in a society??" the course just couldn't handle any paying society or even a Sunday medal. The shame of it is that it is surrounded by some of the best views and we watched the Peregrine Falcons sailing overhead my feeling of sadness seeing a once great course allowed to fall into such ruin, sort it out Monmouth members, don;t allow this amazing course close like others in Monmouthshire, get off your backsides and sort out the greens and bunkers and then i'm sure the golfers will come and play.

tough course with intersting holes
This is a tough course but with really interesting holes. It's based on the side of a mountain so very hilly, we walked but probably would get a buggy next time. Enjoyed plating and would go back again. All staff friendly and accommodating.
Great course -definately worth a round
Played here for the first time today and wasn't disappointed. Course is very undulating with some sharp elevation changes which really adds to the difficulty but also the pleasure in playing the course. Tees/fairways in really good condition, greens slightly patchy but putted true so no issue.
WIth the hills some may find this a tough walk but there were plenty of buggies available if you needed them (I will probably take one next time).
Very friendly club with a warm welcome on arrival and given all the usual info. Also friendly bar staff when we reach the 19th hole.
Friendly family owned
A challenging course with plenty of slopes, very picturesque took lots of photos, it was quiet so no pressure of anyone around. The owner spoke to us loads making us very welcome and even checked if I broke 100 strokes going around, which I thought was lovely, and yes I did. Par 3s are long for ladies but makes it a challenge and I was happy with this as gets some great practise in for other courses. Breakfast bap after as chef on at 11, worth the wait stunning food. Take some change as there is a coffee machine for 1.50, I didn't but owner bought me coffee, nice touch. I will return to this course.
Great views
Lovely golf course with great views. Well set out and some challenging holes. It’s only let down by the poor winter tee mats and the greens need looking at ready for the summer. It’s well worth a round.
Don't be fooled!
Having read info on course, I was expecting an easy day. Not the case. A tight undulating challenging but greatly enjoyable experience! Would love to play here again!
Golf at monmouth golf club
Course layout was very nice greens worn in places but ok to put on . Shop closed and bar closed so could not use .would play it again though.
Pretty good but...
...greens and course condition could have been a lot better to be honest. The course itself is interesting with challenging holes and a lot of uphill walking, so be reasonably fit or get a buggy! Staff very friendly as were some members we met so this made a lovely and welcomed difference to first time visitors. A well earnt 4/5 star rating which could have been a 5 with better course conditions.
Lovely course. Slow pace of play.
Picturesque course with lots of interesting and tricky holes made more difficult by the very dry conditions.
The experience of playing here, however, was spoiled by the very slow pace of play. We, a 2 ball, found ourselves behind a members (seniors) greensome competition. This shouldn't have been too bad but every time we walked off a green there were 2 groups waiting to play off the next tee. Someone ahead was playing very slowly! The members ahead of us were friendly and apologetic for the delays.
Luckily the groups ahead had started on the 13th hole and for the last 6 holes we had the beautiful course to ourselves.
This is a very up and down course and we were glad we rented a buggy.
Excellent Value
£26 for two players on a bank holiday - excellent value for money. Friendly welcome in clubhouse and food/drink we had was tasty and reasonably priced. Great use of the ups and downs of a very attractive landscape. Not an easy walk in places, but buggies were available. Greens were smooth but slow - it had rained the day before though. All in all, really enjoyable and would like to play again.
Good course and friendly staff, greens only average.
Course was very quiet for a Sunday afternoon, I played the last day before winter mats went out, which was by luck not judgement.
Greens were average and bunker sand was quite hard.
Despite the times on the club house saying open till 6, they were shut as we passed the 12th at around 2.30, would have been useful if we'd been told of the earlier closing time.
Saying all that I really enjoyed the round, the layout and the variety of holes was very good. I'm not sure I'd return until the drier months as the course was already muddy in places.
great experience
really interesting course, would be very happy to play again
Pretty course
I received a friendly reception. The course was pretty and an interesting golfing challenge. It was surprisingly quiet for a Friday afternoon.
Very hilly. Take a buggy
It was an enjoyable round with fantastic views. Each hole had a unique challenge although it could do with some fairway hazards and also the bunkers around the greens needs some maintenance. All in all worth the green fee
