Don’t waste your time and money

I have played this course 4/5 times, each time there is an issue. I am a scratch golfer so like to test myself at the “best” places. Either speed of play or course conditions or general animosity from staff. As the “home of welsh golf” it is an absolute disgrace, the value for money is shocking. You can find better courses for half the price in most areas of Cardiff. Played today when really it should have been closed, they are clearly rotating the courses and closing the Montgomerie to give it a days rest and then putting everyone on the Roman road, rather than closing both and not wasting peoples time and money. Awful place I will never go back again. £38 for a buggie! £48 for a round in OFF SEASON. Please whatever you do do not travel for this course you will be hugely disappointed unless you are used to playing pitch and putts week in week out. Don’t let them rip off any more people it’s really not on. Disgrace to welsh golf.

Wet

With the recent rain, the course was sopping. Of course Celtic Manor can’t help that, so why moan.? They were open and cheap. No temp greens or winter tees. The round was enjoyable. Greens played well. Friendly staff. Some absolutely stunning holes with gorgeous views.

Well balanced course.. terrible pace

Played the course for years as a member and now a vistor. Roman road is a class set up and invariably in top condition. On this occasion the greens were superb. Its biggest problem is the pace of play it generates due to its demand and the average or less than average golfer. Too many times rounds are ruined because of this. No course marshal to help speed things up. Ran out of patients after the 12th.

Summer evening golf

Played on the hottest June day since 1976 plus the longest day. The course has an excellent layout and is a fair test of golf for all standards. The greens were superb as was the overall condition of the course. Cannot wait to play the Montgomerie and possibly the Twenty-Ten courses.

Wonderful vision and facilities to match

Booked CM when saw great midweek deal. Went with high expectations and was not disappointed. As you entered the grounds you could taste the class of the place. When you adjust your mentality to meet your environment, you know you're in the midst of somewhere special. The only shock was being advised on arrival that as a 2 ball we would be playing with 2 members. That set the nerves jingling but as it happenned they were unavailable and we had a care-free round in a beautiful but challenging setting. Next time ill come prepared and pay a visit to the driving range prior!

Lovely day

The course was as you would expect at such a location, the only downsides were two four-balls in front of us that were slow and the course was very boggy in many places. The upside was a fantastic spring day with lots of sunshine and little wind. I'm sure our experience would have been quite different in poor weather as it is very exposed to the elements.
