The Ranches Golf Club
About
The course at Ranches Golf Club has a Western theme, as does the entire club. The course's linksland feel is due to the native prairie landscape that it plays through. Located just south of Salt Lake City in the valley between Lehi and Eagle Mountain, the course offers beautiful views from every point on the course in nearly every direction. The golf course is quite spacious stretching out over 220 acres of land. There are four sets of tee boxes to accommodate different skill levels. Ranches Golf Club also has impressive practice facilities including a natural grass driving range and a large practice putting green.

Deceivingly Tight
If you can keep your shots out of the VERY DEEP grass that isn't far from the fairway, this is a fun course. Some of the greens and fairways are a little rough in spots, but overall, the course is very playable, and the layout is straightforward. And for right around $50 on the weekend mornings, it's a fair value. Staff is always very friendly as well. The practice areas are adequate.
Challenging course that I want to conquer
The Ranches is a challenging course in various ways. It is not necessarily long, but the rough is tough to play out of, and the layout of several holes challenges each golfer to make strategic shots. This is a course I would like to be able to conquer!
Tough course for average player
The course is tough for the average player like me, and it becomes more difficult with wind.
Could be great
Keep in my this review is based on a round played in mid-April, so it's still somewhat early in the season. The front 9 was in rough shape, and there was a lot of garbage all over due to the nearby construction going on all over the place. I don't understand why the course employees don't do a better job keeping the course clear from garbage. It was somewhat disappointing. The back 9 was much better! In good shape, well maintained, no garbage/graffiti that I could see. I only paid $20 to play 18 with a cart so I can't complain too much. Overall the course has a fun layout but def needs some TLC.
Challenging course
I have always enjoyed this course in general but it seems like the class of players on this course are less than desirable (not repairing divots in the fairways (sand, etc and far to many unrepaired ball marks on the greens). Otherwise the course the pace of play Ect are all awesome and the course itself is quite challenging.
Third times a charm.....or not
After trying this course twice in the past, I thought that maybe the third trip there would be the good one. I showed up to the course 40 minutes early to hit a bucket and warm up. The driving range did not have grass where you were supposed to hit from. It was as if everyone was hitting from a fairway bunker. When we finally did get sent out (15 minutes after our tee time) we sat on the first tee for 20 minutes. The pace of play was horrendous at best and not a single Marshall was seen all day. The course itself is decent and the greens roll smooth and fast. I would just recommend avoiding this place unless you need to kill 7 hours.
Fun layout
The course is a little out-of-the-way. The layout is good and the greens were in good shape. They could do a little nicer job on keeping the Sand traps raked. The one suggestion that I would make is that they replace the number nine hole green. Over all it was a great value
Tough
Wow
Exhausting
Difficult if you don't club down and keep it on the short grass
Strange layout can be guesswork if you haven't played these doglegs and hidden greens.
Nice condition.
Buy the ranch pass it's a great deal
Challengingly Funny
Boy the golf gods had something of a challenge for us. The wind picked up, gusts were uncharacteristically abnormal for this time of the year or perhaps being a golf die-heart, nothing will stop us from the Next Birdie experience! Links style course. We played from the very back tee's - nice and long! Take away tip, keep it in the fairway or second cut! Good people, good pace of play, good sandwiches at the turn, good beverages of choice. Best of all....great affordable green fee's!
Ups and Downs
Challenging but fun links style course. No water, but plenty of traps and houses. Make sure to hit the fairways or you will not be able to find your ball due to the thick grass. Played the front nine behind a very slow 4-some that waited until the group ahead was OFF the green before teeing off on par 4s, very rude. But luckily they only played 9 and the back 9 pace of play was much better. Greens were VERY fast but had to watch out for other people's divots. Overall 4/5... I'll definitely play there again, hopefully just not behind that group!
Fun and Interesting
Glad we finally got to play this course. Greens were the most challenging part of the course. They were very smooth and true but VERY fast. In most cases the ball didn't break as much as it looks like it would. Ordered hot sandwiches at the turn and the cook said it would take her about 20 minutes to fix them. She offered to bring them to us which she did just as we finished playing the 11th hole. Great service and delicious sandwiches?
9th hole is like it's straight out of a video game. Very steep uphill with a very fast green. If you're above the hole the ball will run off the front of the green.
Sand traps need more sand.
Great value.
Last minute deal. Good layout. Some of the short par 4's can be sneaky dangerous!!
cody
It was a great way to play golf for a good price, I had a great time.
Challenging course to test your skills
Lots of blind shots. Bunkers could use some work. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens in great shape. A challenge for everyone. Long course with lots of elevation change
Great Course For Price
This is a good course. There are some nice challenging shots with elevation change and thick rough.
If you hit straight, you'll love this course.
Roped Off
The course design seems to have been to allow as many cookie-cutter, shoe box houses to line the course as possible. The course itself is great but is generally lined with hills covered with "
"natural vegetation" that separates the cart paths from the course, leaving you primarily on one side with views of the weed covered mounds and the multitude of houses on the other. I once hit a drive into the middle of the fairway but by the time I had an entry onto the fairway, I was on the wrong fairway and had to go back to the tee to figure it out. Also, the greens are roped off 30-40 yards from the greens so you must go to the cart paths to approach the green. The cart paths generally are 30 plus yards from the greens as well. If your ball is off the green to the side away from the cart path, you have a big problem selecting which clubs to take with you. Reducing wear and tear by keeping carts off of the fairways make sense--I like the 90 degree policy. However, I would summarize my golfing there as a ride between weed covered mounds and houses. They have overdone the roping off by such an extent that the pleasure of golf for me was so minimized that I looked forward to finishing. However, I really liked the course itself. It was challenging but not overwhelming. I just wish that I could have had the experience of being on the course instead of on the cart paths with minimal opportunities to see the course. By the way, I played well for my game. I played the black tees.
Lots of gravel on all the greens.
I did not enjoy trying to putt on greens where there were gravel on most of the greens. I have never been to a course where they use gravel as a fill in over an aeration. It would take a whole lot to get me to come back. I felt like I wasted my money.
Not a good experience
Worst greens I've ever played. Recently aerated and sanded with not just sand but gravel. Rocks and pebbles all over the greens impossible to play. Left after 9 holes and 2 hours and 45 minutes. Won't return.
