Watch out for the sheep

Course set on top of cliffs so water retention in the ground is not an issue. In credit to the grounds keepers it must be a thankless task with the wildlife walking the course but does definetly add some character to this who located course.

Car park a little on the small side talking to the local players it’s common to run out of space if there’s a competition on.

Great driving range again with plenty of sheep to avoid. Hitting across a bridal way is not ideal but viability is very good so should not be an issue.

The bar and kitchen are quite typical for a members only club. Great outside patio overlooking great views looks brand new the bar it’s self is a bit dated but well stocked and we had a nice pint to recharge after the game. The food was quite simple more “warm me up style” more than home cooked which I expected from this unique course, I think the FHR was put me off a bit as well.

Worth a look if you in the area it’s not cheap not for beginners and not a great menu (there are several restaurants a stones throw away) but if your looking for an all year course that will test your true golf skills this is definitely worth a try. You have a number of clubs nearby if you’re touring as we were. The other courses are not as winter ready as SDGC thanks to its location.

A treat!

In spite of a brisk breeze and a couple of showers, we thoroughly enjoyed our day's golf at Southerndown. The par 3s are crackers, especially the two on the first nine, and several of the longer holes have the happy knack of being simple yet memorable. As far as I'm concerned, this is first-class links golf. The package is completed by friendly service in the well-stocked pro shop and in the comfortable clubhouse.
