Good course but painstakingly slow play
Slowness of play really took away from enjoying the outing, especially as I had brought two friends as my guests, both of whom were excellent golfers but they got quiet upset at the slow pace of play. This was doubly annoying as the wind was noticeably cold when you're standing around so long waiting to take your next shot. The Course Ranger did come when we phoned at the 6th or 7th hole to try to do something about it. The delays arose from two sets of 4 players in caddy cars. So, while the course itself is great, if I'd know the play was going to be so slow I think I would have gone to some other course. In that sense I didn't at all get value for my 90EUR.
Lovely Par 3s
Pleasant course. Would have looked nicer if all water features had water but many were dry. Some lovely par 3s. Only complaint was two guys playing out of a buggy with one set of clubs were very slow. I passed them walking with a trolley and they started 15 minutes ahead of me.
Superb final hole
Second time around this fabulous course and I’m still in awe with some of the holes on this course.
If you get an opportunity, play it as you won’t be disappointed.
The final hole Was so tough, especially as the fairway all plays toward the water hazard and demand plenty of respect.
A wonderful golf course and facilities.
Nice Course nice people
Excellent course and really helpful staff
Friendly and courteous
Ate afterwards and food was excellent
Only minor issue was charge for towels
Please don’t do this ... it’s cheap and overall experience was too good to be disappointed by such an unnecessary expense
the course is well set up
the course is always in great condition , the weather had been very dry for a couple of weeks and still played well , its a pretty level course and not to hard on the body , hope you enjoy your game there .
Great course
One of the best and interesting courses i have played. Plenty of water through fairways and before greens. Cant just stand up and blast it.
Nice course. Good value
Played the course a few times and this was best I’ve seen it. Great value for money.
Downside was it took almost 5 1/2 hours due to a society ahead of us. Painfully slow. Luckily the weather was decent.
Will defo return but if i see a society ahead of me I’ll cry!!!
Enjoyable experience overall
Very pleasant staff, efficient and helpful in the pro shop.
A few years since I played the course so noticed a huge difference in the lay out. Much easier for amateurs now and for the better. Course is still a good test of golf.
Would recommend the club to all golfers.
Thank you for the experience.
St Margerets in the sun
Played with a Norwegian and two Dutch , slow round but great weather. Course was in great nick apart from a few bumpy greens. The staff are always super friendly here, shame we got in too late for a beer. Some fabulous holes on this course always worth the visit.
Didnt actually play
I clicked on a link to book a time for Saturday but when I received the confirmation email I had been booked in for Tuesday 16th at 11:40 - 5 minutes after I had booked it. I called the course who said they could not do anything about it and to contact Golf Now. I could not amend my booking as it had moved into my "Previous Rounds" section of the website. Sent some emails to Golf Now but just got automated replies offering no help whatsoever. Called the course again to see if there was anything they could do for me, again, they said no. Will be unsubscribing from Golf Now and will not be playing St Margaret's again after this experience
I liked so much I joined !!!!
played twice during the summer and found the course to be in great condition tough but fair and the greens were excellent I liked the place so much I joined and after taking a friend out on course he was so impressed joined as well !!! staff are great and members I have met really friendly looking forward to playing in 2018
A long round
Great course always in great condition but play os consistently slow have played here many times but not again last two rounds there as a twoball had to play front 9 twice in order to get 18 holes finished befeore dark due to very slow fourball in front
Super Slow
We played on a Saturday morning and took a little more than 5 hours to complete the round. Unfortunately we were stuck behind a group of society golf and the Marshall did little to nothing to speed up the pace. The course itself is nice and so is the club house.
Cracker!
Haven't played the course in years and I can't explain why having played last weekend. Great layout and the course was in smashing condition. Well marshalled and really good greens. A really tough but fair test of golf and will definitely be back soon
Good course
Played here a few times over the years, course and greens in great shape, some great par 3s.
Worth While
Teed off at 18:20 expecting it to be quite but the pace was very slow.
They had just sanded the greens, which they didn't make us aware of, and these played very slow.
I was also surprised at the cost of a biggie - 30 euro. Which is about 10 above the odds.
Having said that it is well worth playing.
Ignorant members
Spent 11 holes stuck behind 4 members who never once thought to wave a one ball through and at times spent long times on the greens while I was waiting to approach. At 4h30 for my round they played at what must have been 5 hour pace with no consideration for others
Apparent from this the course was in great nick but could risk another near 5 hour round on an otherwide empty course
