Deer Valley Golf Course
About
Deer Valley Golf Course in Hummelstown boasts one of the most affordable rounds you'll find in the Hershey/Harrisburg area. Since opening in 2005, more than 850 trees have been added and it has matured into a course favored by both visitors and locals. The layout features large, elevated greens and massive multi-tiered tees. From the golf course's peaks, the views stretch all the way to Hershey and the Blue Mountains. The winding layout twists and turns, doglegging left and right. It's a challenging layout round despite the absence of sand bunkers. There is however, thick rough and a number of grass bunkers to watch out for. Water only makes a brief appearance. Deer Valley Golf Course isn't overly challenging but for a fun and fair test, it's an affordable option that also offers some beautiful scenery.

Great layout
Only one big problem. #'s 11 & 12 need a bell or something to tell players behind them when it's OK to hit second shot on 11 & tee shot on 12. Otherwise, great course.
Thanks for this thoughtful feedback. Point well taken. Hope to see you again soon! DVGC
Thanks again for the 5 stars, Papetersen!
I’d like to say you won’t like it at all 😂!
This course is a favorite of mine and I’d love to keep it all to myself. But the staff is wonderful and the course is the perfect blend of challenge and fun so I can’t hold back.
There are five par 5 holes that keep it interesting as well as two par 3s that are a bit tricky. The beauty and the wildlife that frequent the fairways increase the enjoyment of every round. The fairways are in good condition and the greens are moderately fast. I personally like that pace as greens that are too fast can steal my joy with the same speed.
The course is often busy but the pace is about what you’ll find anywhere else which is why I give it a four for the value. I don’t want to be pushed if I’m having a difficult round but I do have issues with extremely slow play when people are hitting three or more tee shots or letting small children play out the hole with no regard for players behind them. It’s a hard line for any course and I don’t know that there’s an easy answer but it keeps my review at a four.
I love the challenge of the course and the holes that offer a chance at redemption. This is one of my top three courses and well worth a trip if you’re not lucky enough to live in central Pennsylvania.
Many thanks for the 5 stars and taking the time to write such a detailed review. Everyone at Deer Valley has been working really hard to earn that, and we sure do look forward to seeing you again soon!
Hey, thanks for the 5 stars!!
awesome day
course was in great shape. killed at least 10 lantern bugs and even had several pars and a birdie!
That's wonderful, hcminnick. Thanks for the 5 stars!
Thanks for the 5 stars, kecosero!
Great day beyond the starter
The starter is always overly aggressive and when you show up 30 minutes early to warm up, the guy tries to force us to pair up with another group and when we tell him we came to play at our tee time and needed to warm up he was visibly flusteres and irrate with us. He then proceeded to disregard any cues on pairing and put 2 of us younger gentleman that hit actively in the 80's from the furthest tees with 2 elderly ladies. Amazing ladies but we in no way got a quick round in like we expected.
Hey Garrettg76, thank you for the feedback. We get it and sorry about that! Hope to see you again soon. DVGC
Bang for ur buck !
Best weekend rate in the world $25.00 after 11 (using Teetime book). Staff great at working with you to get on course. Fairways best in area for hitting irons.
And a great chance of seeing deer on course.
Thanks so much for your 5-star amazing review! Our crew has been putting in a lot of extra effort on the fairways, and we appreciate you recognizing how great they look!
Harry2014, many thanks!
Fix the pace of play and I will come back
Decent course, 40-45 minute drive for me so probably wont come back for a while but its definitely not off the table.
Pace of play was a little slow, had to wait on every tee. Not a big deal for me until the course Marshall comes around on hole 15 and tells us to pick up the pace even though we wait for every hole. Definitely need to space out the tee times a little more.
Minor complaint, a lot of the fairways were close together with only a small line of trees between. This was worse on some holes than others where balls were landing on our fairway and on one hole someone's ball landed on our green, while we were on the green.
Cons: Pace of play, holes are all very close to eachother
Great Course, but too many slow weekend golfers
I love playing Deer Valley. The course is always in great shape and normally the pace of play is good. Unfortunately, there are too many weekend golfers that don't understand the concept of "ready golf". During the week you can easily play a round in less than 4 hours. On the weekend, it's over 4 1/2 hours. There are no rangers out on the course moving people along. You often see groups one or two holes behind the group in front. I will continue to play at Deer Valley, just not on the weekend.
Neil - appreciate the review and feedback!
Fun local course. Needs to pick up the pace.
4 hours and 20 minutes to play...You can do better! Fun course and great conditions but, slow play is one of the reasons people give up this game. Unfortunately, this course is not alone in this regard, as many of the courses in the area suffer from the same symptoms of slow play. To the grounds keepers credit, Deer Valley is in phenomenal condition. Certainly one of the best in the area.
Thank you Mr. Vargas for recognizing the "phenomenal condition" of the course. Our grounds crew is the BEST! And, yep, pace of play can be a challenge at a lot of courses. Hope to see you again soon.
Great round of golf
The course is very well maintained. The pin placement was challenging. Fairways were amazing.
Pace was a little slow due to groups ahead of us.
Thanks, Bulletman25!
