Great Track
This is one of the top 5 public courses in SE Mi. The day I played it, it was late in the afternoon, after an outing. Greens and tee boxes were a bit beat up from all the play that day, but still a great course.
Course is cut out thru the woods but many huge fairways that are tough to miss. But be careful, there are plenty of places to lose a ball.
Keep 'em in the fairway
The rough is ROUGH (as it should be) and OB balls are not easy to find. Course plays great...very challenging.
Challenging Course in Wixom
We played Lyon Oaks for the first time last week and it was a good experience. The course has the look and feel of a Northern Michigan location, without the 4 hour drive. Since our group is in the mid 60’s, we played the “White Tees” at a slope of 131 and 6133 yards. At our age, we tend to play from the 6000 to 6300 yard lengths to keep it playable while still challenging. What made it challenging was the tight fairways, undulating greens, and having to hit “blind shots” on some holes.
Overall, a good golfing experience at the “Senior” rate of $35.00 per player. Since it was our first time playing this course, we ended up letting a three-some play through, and later a two-some play through. Even at that, we were just 15 minutes off the recommended pace of play. I was kind of upset that a “Ranger” followed us for #17 and #18, to remind us to “step it up”. A little petty since the “Rangers” are volunteers who get to play “Free” when not working. But, overall a really good course.
challenging
COURSE WAS IN GREAT SHAPE. Greens were smooth an fast. Just like they should be. Only thing I didn't care for was the wetlands were cut down way to far.Took away the feel or character of the course. If they let it grow it would look like a resort course up north. Still 4.5 stars though.
great place great course
one of the better courses in michigan. i would play every day if i could...
Great layout
All the challenge you want from the black tees. Birdies are hard to come by, even when you hit it close you have to be defensive when putting. Wish I had a membership at this course.
ok
I heard the golf course is really nice so i went with my uncle for the first time. The course was really good but the staff messed up my game by putting my uncle and i in a bad mood. I guess it was carpet only that day and by accident i went out into the grass in the golf cart. The very first hole one of the staff came out and yelled at us. He shouted out no golf carts in the grass. He could have asked nicely. It put us in a bad mood and messed up both our games. At the very last hole we saw the staff member again. My uncle confronted him. All he had to say was sorry and hesaid that the receipt said carpet only. No where on the receipt did it mention that. Overall i give this course 3 stars out of 5 because of the bad experience.
Great shape
Fairways were mint. Greens were very fast. Alot of shortish holes but extremely challenging. Ball placement very key on back 9. All around very nice.
challenging course
Lots of wildlife throughout, including three separate deer sightings and a wild turkey towing along several babies on a couple of holes. A beautiful course that's extremely challenging. Some forced carries, no easy holes. Very few flat lies anywhere on the course and some very hard-to-get-to pins in some places. A real challenge.
Good value for a quality course
Although we got rained for a couple of holes, the course was in great condition and worth the challenge. My score was poor but would definately come again.
ranger ruined our day
first tee ranger say's we need to play in 4 to 4 1/2 hours ....please repair divot's on greens... we all do from day's of being a caddy.....couple holes roped off so you have to walk from cart path with a couple club's.......we get to the 16th hole hitting our third shot's on the par 5 and the ranger comes up and say's you have to speed up the last holes are open in front of you.... he didnt know we were the first 4some off at 7:20 am...of course the course is open ahead of us i ask him what time is it he's say's its 11;10 am....so i say thats give's us 40 min's to play little over 2 holes... he say's were holding up the course behind us ...well we only saw the 4some behind us twice all day behind them was 2some's they were being held up not our fault they didnt pair up the 2some's...we got done just under 4 hours 20 min.'s... kind of ruined our day3 or 4 of the greens were in pretty bad shape... otherwise course was in good shape.....they lost us as player's wont never go back
One of the best in the area
A perfect find for a last minute round of golf with a friend and the opportunity to meet some new ones. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The greens exhibited some kind of mold/fungus, but the speed was affected very little. Will make every attempt to revisit this course a couple of times before seasons end. Bunkers were a bit shallow
One of my favorites!
Great course for all skill levels. Play can sometimes grind to a halt especially on the weekends mainly due to "wanna be pros" playing from the back tees. I'm so glad that this course has returned to GolfNow.
Nice course
Enjoyed playing even with the cold weather.
Would recommend & I will be returning to this course
Good value
Good value, slower pace of play, up north feel and style
