Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club
About
Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club, which opened in 2009, is the first golf course to be built on a Site of Special Scientific Interest since the days of Scottish golfing pioneer Tom Morris. The golf course is also the first 18-hole links course to be built on the west coast of Scotland in 100 years
Machrihanish Dunes' site, set against the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, featured 23 "natural holes,” and golf course architect and Scotsman David McLay Kidd, who is internationally acclaimed for his design of Bandon Dunes in Oregon and the Castle Course at St. Andrews, chose his 18 favorites. Basically, only the tees and greens were shaped. The fairways in between and almost all of the rest of the site remain just as nature made them.

Great course
Great course in a wonderful setting on a lovely day in August. Friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely come back again and certainly recommend to anyone.
Fabulous!
A must play course! Greens are fantastic; condition and shapes!
Ma Dunes fun
Great course, some really tricky holes. We played off the white tees but the yellow tees would actually have made it better.
Mach dunes
The dunes is one of my favourites. I try to go at least once a year. Great layout, fun greens and there's always a warm welcome.
Stunning location and exceptional course
Got a great deal with teeofftimes hot deals and had a great round of golf.
This is not a course for beginners but it's fantastically entertaining for the experienced golfer.
I'll look to play it again when I'm next in this part of the country.
Good round on lovely course.
Considering it was only the middle of February the course was in really good condition especially the greens. It was very tricky in the windy conditions. We thoroughly enjoyed our game and will definitely be back. Would certainly recommend the course to anyo
Just Fabulous
Played The Dunes for the first time today. Loved it. Layout impressed me as did the condition of the course. Excellent welcome from Jock on the Golf House. He even joined me on the 1st tee and gave me the line. Scorching sunshine made this a fantastic visit and the greens were huge and very undulating, offering the course excellent protection given that a few par 4's aren't much longer than 300 yards. Views from the course are fabulous. Can't wait to return.
Machrihanish Dunes
Excellent course. I like the variation depending on choice of tee. Good challenge and will suit golfers of all handicaps.
A day at the Dunes
Great course but not easy in windy conditions
Still a great course
No buggies for hire which is not easy if not fully fit and for such a long course
I think they should look at this especially for USA golfers
The dunes
Outstanding, challenging course, the wind was a big factor during play, however, didnt spoil the round. Loved the large hilly greens which are in perfect condition, enjoyed the different holes with hidden greens & really had to think about which shot to attempt rather than just smashing the ball as far as i could. Will definatley be back to play this course again. Loved it!!
Awesome course
Excellent course with fantastic greens and not forgetting the tough bunkers
Would recommend a round to anyone & hope to return very soon
Fantastic course: for a billygoat
Loved the Dunes but be warned, it is hard on the knees. The undulations make the course a fascinating place to play but it is not an easy walk. It is one non stop roller coaster from the first tee on and you will get some weird bounces and rolls off the humps and bumps. Gorgeous links course especially considering how new it is. With Macrihanish GC down the road a fantastic pair of links well worth the rather tortuous drive from Glasgow. It's a matter of some discussion among cabbies and caddies in Scotland whether this course is any good, but I rate it as good as, if not better than Macrihanish GC.
Great course
Fantastic course, well worth £25 a round. Highly recommended.
Spectacular views and spectacular greens!
Great course
Played this course with 2 friends , we had great weather and the course was in great condition, some course and the views from the course looking out onto the sea with the mountains in the backdrop, could not ask for anything else , really enjoyed our time playing course and will be back .
Machrihanish Dunes
The weather made this a very demanding course as the winds were very strong on the day. Great setting and in very good condition. Peter, the head steward, could not have been more helpful or welcoming to us.
