About
Ideally situated between the vibrant Miami nightlife and laid back atmosphere of the Florida Keys, Keys Gate Golf Club offers the best of south Florida golf. The lush landscape is covered in lakes and ponds that come into play on nearly every hole. Jut a short drive from the coast, the course enjoys warm ocean breezes. Overall the golf course is wide-open but there are swaying palms scattered throughout providing some challenges but mostly scenery. The layout features small greens and manicured fairways. There are also a few treacherously placed bunkers along the fairways and greensides. Keys Gate has garnered a large following since it offers a good value. Golfers from as farm south as Marathon Key have been known to come up for a round.

needs work on fairways/greens
needs work on the fairways and greens. some fairways have ho grass in spots. needs love
If you want to work on your game, it is a good place to play as traffic is not heavy.
A "Scruffy" course but they are working on its maintenance. The Tee Boxes require attention and in some fairways there are all types of grass growing. It is a course where you have to be able to work the ball right to left and the closing holes are demanding in putting the ball in play. Small greens require accuracy with your irons albeit with good drives, you will be playing wedges (White Tee). Traffic is not heavy so it is great to enjoy the solitude of tis location. Many greens are not in good shape but a few are which shows promise for the rest.
Course has a nice layout
Course has a nice layout and amenities however, the fairway grass was too tall and the greens need work, 30% of the greens were covered with white sand. Other than that its a very peaceful place to play with little traffic.
Course condition and price not worth the money
This has got to be the worst and most over price golf coarse I have ever played. For the conditions it's in it should cost $15 for 18 at peak time and $10 twilight. Look into it, it's too much for what you really get. Not worth the $25 they charge.
Good Bargain
I feel that it was a great deal for the price, specially on a Sunday morning. Greens were in good shape compared to courses of similar prices in the area. I took my two year old and was able to finish my round in just over three hours due to the emptiness of the course. Very happy and will be returning.
humble course,never aproblem.
good value, new management ( manny; others) extremely friendly and easy going.
Has a great layout but needs some real attention to the greens.
I really like the layout of the course and I've played there many times. The location is great as well just on the edge of the Florida Keys and great surrounding amenities and shops. The course used to be in much better shape but the Homestead/Florida City area was hit very hard by the recession and the course suffered as well. Just on the edge of the Homestead Air Force Base so there are always really cool fighter jets and other planes that fly over the course. Fairways have improved with the recent rain but they do tend to get pretty thin during the drier times of the year. Greens are very poor and are in need of overhaul. Recommended for beginners and those with a tight budget. If you're a low handicap and refuse to play on courses with poor quality greens then Keys Gate is not for you.
Greens, Tees, Fairways need some professional attention.
Beautiful Setting in South Florida. Closest 18 hole course to the Keyes. Lots of water features. Beautiful clubhouse. Friendly Staff. Unfortunately the course has been let deteriorate. It appears that work is being done to make improvements but the tees are in bad shape. With no rain since November it is difficult to maintain the fairways and greens in pristine condition. An infusion of money would definitely help.
poorly maintained course
poor;y maintained course, most green on the first nine holes had dry patches on them. tee boxes were poorly maintained.
rental clubs were satisfactory but a bit expensive to rent
Has gone from unplayable to playable.
This course has significantly improved its greens, although they still need some attention. Tee boxes were in bad shape and the fairways were not much better. Despite what may appear as a scathing review, I am actually pleased that management is taking steps to improve the course. The course has great potential.
Needs course attention
I was disappointed in the shape of the course and I cant speak for anyone but me..............BUT that (course conditions) is the main reason I golf a course over and over. Sad to say I will not be back to Keys Gate anytime soon. The staff all were great but the product...........
Course has potential
Course layout is fairly good however it needs more attention to details. The tee boxes are substandard, and the greens need more attention. The course, however, is fairly picturesque and the staff is friendly. All it needs is a little more money, better management, followed by raising the greens fees to allow for better maintenance .
THis course was pretty good
I enjoyed this course. We played last friday feb 22,2013. The price was great. this is the closest public course to key largo. The course is lined with large trees and thus shade. the course has two bathrooms -not out houses- that is a bonus for the women!! the fairways definitely need work, but the course was fairly easy- a few sand traps and water to deal with. otherwise i got a lot of great bounces and i was pretty happy with my game. if you want pristine and you are staying in key largo you must go further up towards miami. in conclusion- if you want to play golf- this course will be just fine!!
The course is coming back.
Last November I said I would not come back until they restored the greens. They were horrible, mostly dirt. After reading Manny's review, saying that the greens were in good shape, I went back. They are much, much better now. A couple of them still need some work but for the most part it is very playable. They are working on the tee boxes which still need some care but the course if very playable now. I will go back.
Great course to play
Me and a friend golf this course at least once a week, the course is always properly maintained and the staff do a great job of making your experience there the best.....
Not good
The service was bad when I went to check in I was ask to pay again and was questioned few times how much I paid for the tee time, It was embarrassing because other gentleman were around and waiting to check in , this was suppose to be a day off for me and a relaxing one it turned out not so.
Improving!
Played this course last month and it was not good. Played it again last Friday and it has improved quite a bit in that short time. Some of the greens still have some bare spots but they are smooth now so your ball doesn't bounce all over. The fairways are still bumpy and there are still some weeds but they're certainly playable. The rough has been trimmed and you can actually find your ball when it's just off the fairway now. The tee boxes are still in need of some repair... Lots of bare spots. The driving range is still water so it is what it is. Very friendly staff and they seem committed to continually improving the course to it's full potential.
For the money the course wasn't bad
The staff was friendly the course was in pretty good condition except for the 18th green it is a tiered green and had a lot of damage it needs to be sodded . Other then that I can't complain
This course has a great lay out.
the greens were great. the fairways a little bumpy.
Lots of water and trees. Bring all your shots....
Staff generally friendly. Tees and fairways can be shaggy. Greens need attention and will greatly improve quality of play with some help. Great value to help keep your winter game in shape. Ranger could improve pace of play.
