MacKenzie Course
Greens seemed spongy but were surprisingly firm and fast. Elevation changes and fast greens made putting a real challenge especially on breaking puts. Overall course conditions were the best I have ever seen them. It will be interesting to see if this holds up when hot weather arrives. Plan to play it again soon.
Very slow play. No marshal's on course. Water in coolers warm.
Good course to play. However, the last two times I played there it was very slow play. No marshal's on course. Water in coolers warm, not cold on a hot day .
Surprising condition for a Muni course with above average play.
I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of this course. The fairways are in above average shape & the greens were medium fast & rolled true. This will not be the last time I play this course.
Great course Nut no turn around after 9
Course in great shape. Greens were very soft. Easy to land the balls there.
Nice course....
A nice, challenging public course with a great golf store.
A great walk !!
A joy to play. Greens are in great shape, sneaky fast but fair.
We play the first day of the Expo with no problem getting a tee time using GolfNow. A great walking course.
Fun day on the course
I played the Alister MacKenzie course. The course was in good condition and the greens were nice. The driving range balls scattered on the first hole from the near by driving range was the only irritant on an otherwise glorious day!
great golf course
Haggin Oaks is a great place to play golf. Excellent facilities, friendly and knowledgeable staff, great 19th hole, great academy range and driving range...I just wish the course itself were more spectacular. It is well-maintained, fast greens, etc, but it's sort of drab to me, like a big, open park with a lot of freeway noise.
Just to make 1 putt- but every lip- out
Course is an easy cow- pasture-ish track- flat & open. The greens were bumpy & I rolled out 5 times- when I thought I made 4 of them for sure- pace wasn't bad- under $10 is a must.
I like this course right in the middle of Sac. Greens are getting firm and roll pretty true!
Played with two-some and a single. The greens are rolling true and the speed are good so far just the way I like it.
For a public muni, very good shape and good value!
The course was in very good shape, fairways tight, greens only moderate in speed, and since we played at 7:45am, this Sunday round came in under 4.5 hours, and our foursome walked!
Wide-open fairways, greens in great shape
Starter on hole #1 was not friendly. Allowed a single w/power cart to tee off before us to play with another single w/PC that teed off before us. That golfer did not join up and was playing 2-balls and I finally called the club house to inform them to have the marshal talk to him to speed up play.
Unmistakeable MacKenzie features
MacKenzie used the human eye to channel great golf shots and he does that here with great effect. I've played Pasatiempo in Santa Cruz and Sharpe Park in Pacifica and walked Cypress Point when it was in the Pebble Beach rota so I was anxious to see what he'd done here. It did not disappoint. Spring golf in the Sacramento area is close to perfect. The only quibble I could come up with would be that the overgrowth of narrow-leaf weeds in the rough makes a clean shot out nearly impossible and thus lengthens holes. Greens were true. I could have wished for the bunker sand to be a little less heavy. Whoever previously complained about the trees in the middle of the fairway hadn't read the guide book to the course that is provided free of charge with paying rounds (and is also on the course web site). Follow the advice given there and you won't go wrong. Overall, an impressive, well-run venue and a great value. ( A side note: be prepared for numerous, noisy freight trains of long length to punctuate your round, as they run right on the border of the course.)
Great pace and lush conditions , spring golf at its best
Played sunday on a great Golfnow prepaid tee time . Pace was surprisingly fast for a sunday afternoon , less than 4 hrs for a twosome following a threesome . Greens were punched in the last 2 weeks and are a little shaggy , but everything is growing in great .
Good for the money
Played the Burgundy tees at around 6500 yards. Course a little rough in areas but the greens are pretty good. However, hole # 11 is a bear. All holes were reasonable but 11 is almost 600 yards with a grove of trees in front of the hole! Weird design but sort of fun and dumb at the same time.
Don't like being hounded around the course
A friend and I decided to walk the course on a Saturday afternoon and we booked a time through GolfNow. We joined another pair of walkers on the first tee and formed a foursome. In front of us was another twosome, also walking. Teeing off after us was a group of three, with one walker and two riders, each with their own cart. Of course, the pair in front of us played faster even though they were walking. The threesome behind us was obviously faster given that they had two separate carts. By the fourth hole on the front nine, the course marshall was already asking us to speed up play because we weren't keeping pace with the group in front of us and the group behind us was waiting. He seemed to follow us around for the rest of the front nine. Did he really expect four people walking to play as fast as two walking or even worse, two in SEPARATE carts? It really started to annoy me, and I commented to one of my group about it (probably loud enough that the marshall could hear me as he sat in his cart between our group and the group behind us.) I'll admit I'm not a good player, but being hounded like that really sucked the enjoyment of this particular round. (Strangely, the group behind us never really seemed to be in a position to play through on a par 3.) I normally like playing this course, but usually I'm riding. Moral of the story: If you don't want to feel pressured, you'll have to pony up the extra cash for a cart. (Maybe that's a new marketing tactic?) If you want to walk and enjoy your round, you might want to consider playing somewhere else.
Great Club
It could have been 5 stars, but the pull carts are horrible. The same ones as those in Bing Maloney (same management). If they can't be better, they should be free.
Hagen Oaks was a nice corse
The over all corse was ok for the airfication Would like to see the greens a little faster.
Fun and Easy
Fun course but pretty easy...good if you just want to relax and play without a lot of challenges.
Great old style parkland course
Alistair McKenzie great architect, great course. Must play.
