Find another place
Finding public courses available around Marco Island / Naples can be difficult. If you’re like me, looking for a last minute tee time at an affordable price and stumbled across Eagle Lakes do not make the same mistake I did!!!
Do NOT play here. You get what you pay for.
Pace of play is horrendous, the course is in terrible shape, and the staff (specifically Tony) are very difficult.
Pay a higher rate somewhere else, it’s worth the extra $20-50 bucks.
Eagle lakes is mediocre
Tee times are difficult in the Naples area. The only reason I play Eagle Lakes is because I can usually get a tee time when I want one.
But the fairways are in rough shape. Almost bare in some spots. Hard to hit the ball of it in some areas.
Despite this they charge the same or more than better courses in the area.
I hear they’re re-sodding all the fairways this summer. Good. They need it.
The starter Bob from Pittsburgh was great. Very good at explaining the layout and suggestions.
Unfortunately the course conditions and layout were less than ideal.
Given the high seasonal price of golf in Naples, this is what you get for $89. The course felt very industrial and highlight were fhe many alligators seen on the first couple of holes.
That’s about it !
Disappointed
Fairways were nothing but mowed weeds. Greens are rough and weedy as well. Close to being overpriced by double of what conditions dictate.
Great time but a few tweaks would enhance the experience
First time playing this the course. The pace of play was excellent we finished in fours hours. Staff was great and friendly. Expected more for the dollar paid $520 for two golfers with rental clubs. Clubs were excellent Taylor Made Stealth 2 but would have expected GPS on the carts or a map of the course layout. The course yardage markers were had to locate and without a range finder or GPS there were moments of frustration estimating distance to the pin.
Overall good time but adding GPS to carts or clear yardage markers would take the experience to a different level.
Good course for the money
Course was in good shape. Greens and Tee boxes were fine. They just raised their rates to $179. Huge jump and not worth it at $179.
Jacked the price of an already overpriced course
The course was very wet in places and bone dry in others. Lots of water which is fine if they had a diagram of the whole or GPS layouts in the cart. Target golf but no idea how far the targets are. Was going to go back and play again on our vacation now that we had an idea of the layout but the price went from 99.00 on Dec 31 to 179.00 on Jan 2. Definitely not worth 179.00. Not a lot of Public courses in the area so can ask whatever they want.
Nice place, Great people
It was understandably cart path only. That was the issue.
Place has noticeably improved from last year.
Poor conditions - no grass on fairways
Playing Eagle Lakes was disappointing. The course is somewhat interesting but the conditions are very poor. No grass on fairways so most of the time hitting off dirt. Impossible to use irons most of the time. The game deteriorates into a bump-and-run affair. Greens are OK at best
Staff is friendly and helpful.
Eagle Lakes would be a nice place to play if it was maintained properly.
Better Than Expected
Like most golfers playing a course for the first time I looked at a significant number of reviews from a variety of sources on the web. I did NOT find that the reviews were consistent with my experience on the day I played. First I enjoy the game but i'm a 26 handicap on a good day. So this review comes from a duffer with a fair amount of golf experience that clearly hasn't helped my game. The general tone of the reviews were that the staff are friendly and helpful and I couldn't agree more. Right from the start the fellow who took my bag at the bag drop was pleasant, professional and sincerely welcoming which made for a positive first impression. That was followed up with my introduction to the staff in the pro shop. Again they were really pleasant and professional with a thorough introduction to the local course requirements. The starter experience was more of the same with some good humour for the first tee experience. The second consensus from the reviews was that the course was not in the best of shape and I would have to agree up to a point. However the conditions never got in the way of a good days golf. I just played with a lift, clean and place and was never really inconvenienced or compromised. There's a fair amount of water and I might have lost a ball or two but it was my fault and not that of the course layout. The average golfer should not feel unduly challenged and the lower handicaps need to control the outcome on the longer drives for sure. It was a fairly breezy day but I managed to avoid t oo much trouble. We had a long ball hitter in our group and he was definitely challenged. The other consistent theme in the reviews was that the course wardens were not always welcomed however this is a public course and the golfers can be a bit.......not sure how to put this......but public. Our group stopped to grab a hot dog on the turn and consequently had to be reminded by the warden to "close the gap". He was firm but polite and experienced golfers would expect nothing less. Overall the pace of play was more than acceptable and I would expect that there would be times when a 3.5 hour game would be a pipe dream!!! I should mention that apropos of playing in the florida everglades we did see a bald eagle and a number of alligators. All in all I would recommend this course and will play it again. However if you are looking for Augusta, Pebble Beach or #2 Pinehurst then this may not be your best choice.
A wide open course that is challenging and fun to play
