Tarpon Woods Golf Club
About
Named after the creek that borders it, Tarpon Woods Golf Club is home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, alligators, turkeys, coyotes, and otters. The layout is not the Tampa Bay area's most challenging but it is one of the most scenic. Formerly Brooker Creek Golf Club, the club changed management and made several improvements to the bunkers, tee boxes, and greens in 2009. It has been a local favorite for more than 30 years. Overall the golf course is not particularly long but the front nine plays longer than the back. Each nine offers a unique set of challenges. The third hole is the longest and toughest with water that runs down the left side. There is also water on both sides of the approach to the green.

Beautiful course and great bang for the buck
The greens and aprons were in very good condition. Most of the fairways were good, but some bare or thin spots required moving the ball to a better spot. Very nice surroundings and the houses are generally far back and not an issue with a few minor exceptions. Though well treed along the fairways, they are mostly wide and forgiving. Lots of water but it rarely really comes into play. The practice range was large, but the actual hitting area was constrained to a very small area; couldn't figure that one out. Overall a great experience and 'I'll be back"!
Nice course
Not bad for the price. A few fairways have some muddy spots, but overall I would play here again
Nice Course
Greens and their aprons are in excellent shape. Centers of the fairways are in good shape. Got a good buy on a golf shirt that was on sale in the pro shop. Overall, it is a nice course and a good value in pleasant surroundings. Additionally, bring your best game, some holes are quite challenging.
Review
Always a pleasure to play Tarpon. Pretty course. Nice surroundings
Beautiful Setting...
As a recently retiree, I have taken up golf. I thoroughly enjoy the game and the beautiful setting of Tarpon Woods, which is located near my house here in Palm Harbor. I understand that the management has undertaken an aggressive path to improve the conditions. The TLC is showing. Everyone is very friendly. My partner and I, who is new to golf also, really enjoy our golfing experience at Tarpon Woods. I like that the range is long and spacious.
Worth the drive to Tarpon
Had played Tarpon Woods several years ago when the greens were in terrible shape. Decided to try it again and was pleasantly surprised as the greens are in excellent condition. Better than most courses in the area. Tarpon Woods offers the experienced golfer a good challenge with lots of water and rough to challenge your game. Fairways are in good shape if you stay in the middle, stray to the sides and you will encounter some bare patches. Now that the greens are in good shape, the tee boxes could use some work. Watch out for the hazard behind the 16th green as it would appear the locals like to take their dogs there and if you overshoot it, you may end up with more than mud between your spikes...Pace of play was very good. Excellent value for your money. We are already booked for another round.
Will the conditions ever change?
Year after year I play Tarpon Woods and except it to improve and parts of the course does. The disappointing part is, the parts that improved the year before are back the way they were... If you just have to get out and play and the conditions don't bother you Tarpon Woods is a fun course to play... don't expect much and you won't be disappointed
golf course condition
needs fairway grass and lots of sprinkler work. would be a beautiful course if some work is done
Course condition
The fairways still need work and the quality of the bunker sand could be a lot better.
However, there has been a noticeable improvement in the condition of the greens since 2-3 years ago.
Improving but needs more work
The course has improved from its deplorable condition from a few years ago. It still needs to improve. Most of the tee boxes are sand with sparse grass. There are numerous places both in the rough and in the fairways that have no grass at all. The greens have improved dramatiy and most are good to excellent. The sand traps are mediocre to poor. I love the course layout. It just needs a lot more work.
New Name- Can't hide a pig
I hadn't played this course since last year, and the reason was the last time I played it, it was lousy. Frankly, for the money, there were so many other courses around just down the road in fact, that were much better. But the same thing happened this year, there are so many golfers down here from up North, that I call it the overflow effect- the best courses for the best value, are booked, then everyone just tries to find what is left. Booker Creek, was the name last year, but even with a new name, this course has not improved, barren and rough fairways, no water to drink, other than a cart girl, tee boxes have no grass and are uneven. Greens, on some holes, are average, the others are rough shape.
good everyday course
Course coming back from turf challenges as I understand. Greens good. Layout good. Tough for directionally challenged. Bring extra balls. Overall adequate everyday type of course. Good value.
working on it
very golf management demanding course. tight fairways and blind landing areas. fairways are sparse in a lot of places. greens are slow but in better shape than bayou club 3 weeks ago. all and all a beautiful setting. go ahead test your skill level
tarpon wood review
The staff were fast and friendly, the pace was a little slow, the greens were in excellent conditions but the fairways were sandy and bare in spots, the fairways actually require quite a bit of work but other than that the course is a fair challenge for the money. Lots of small gators in the ponds for viewing.
Greens good
Live and play most of my golf in Southern Pinellas. Played this Northern Pinellas course yesterday. The Greens were in great shape although they are much slower than other courses ( not a bad thing , just different) Fairways were thin and sparse on most of the holes. Lots of doglegs with blind spots (due to narrow landing areas and trees) Course knowledge can be very helpful here. All and all very picturesque among the woods , water and wildlife. May be best to try the course out of season (after the snowbirds leave) as the rounds can be very slow (as at most all courses this time of year)....Will probably give it another try in the summer.
Good deal for the money.
A lot of good holes, none of them are too demanding.
People at course are great, especially cart girl. Charge was reasonable compared to other courses. Greens were fine, but rest of course needs work. We rolled everything over and even then it was hard at times to find some nice grass. Course layout on the scorecard would be a big help as would more yardage markers.
Duffers at play
Very challenging fun course. Very well maintained and great greens.
This course needs more care
Fairways were bare in a lot of areas. Greens need to be cut. Nice layout but needs more care.
Good course for a fun round
We had not played the course in a couple of years. Some improvement has been made on the greens. It was overbooked, so you had to wait on every tee. It is a fairly close in course to play for vacationers staying at the beaches.
