Bay Point Resort - Nicklaus Course
About
Bay Point Golf Club's Nicklaus Course at Sheraton Bay Point Resort is the only Nicklaus Design course in Northwest Florida. The golf course was formerly Lagoon Legend, which had a reputation for being one of the Florida Panhandle's toughest layouts. In 2004, the golf course closed and underwent a major renovation by the Nicklaus Design team. It reopened a year later with rave reviews. The redesign included restructuring the tees, greens, and bunkers and also re-contouring the fairways. The scenic landscape of scrub oaks, towering pines, and saltwater marshes was carefully preserved though. The golf course maintained the challenging aspects of the original but infused a play-ability that makes it accessible to all skill levels. Also like the former course, the new Nicklaus design offers the same stunning views of St. Andrew's Bay. In the fall of 2018, the Nicklaus Course completed a greens conversion to Tif-Eagle Bermuda-grass greens to bring championship greens to a championship course. Bay Point Golf Club has won the Panama City News Herald's "Best of Bay" in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The Nicklaus Course has hosted US Open Local qualifiers and is a home course of the FSU Women's Golf Team and will host their Division 1 Invitational in February of 2020.

Okay round
We have played Bay Point a dozen times over the last five years. It’s a good layout with a great staff. This was our first time there this year and I have to say we were a little disappointed. The greens have a little different grass growing in them that made putting a challenge. It was busy but we got around in 4 hours which is fine. All the golf in the area has went up in price. Bay Point is no exception.
Excellent
While the golf course is outstanding, the staff is even better.
Disappointed
My wife and I played the course for the first time and expected better. First off, no GPS on the carts which was really needed as they were a couple of holes on the front nine that were difficult to figure out where to hit to (layup fairway landing over march etc) and having to play 6 holes "cart path only".. Because of this pace of play was extremely slow for groups ahead as we constantly waited on every hole. It became so slow that when we got to the 12th tee, we were the 4th group on the hole. We called the proshop and they sent out the "golf ambassador" as they have no oncoure ranger. He told the group holding everyone up to let us go ahead. We skipped the 12th hole and found that there were 3 holes open ahead and played pretty quick. Them we got stuck on 17 behind a 5 some and waited more to play the last two holes. The layout is challenging, and the greens have a lot of undulation. They were made even more difficult to putt as most were bumpy due to spots of poa annua
popping up all over. Without having someone on the course making sure pace of play is maintained, not allowing 5somes and adding GPS to the carts, we probably won't come back.
Just as I remembered, nice course
Nice layout, some gettable holes as well as challenging ones.
Greens were firm and semi-fast (especially downgrain).
Pace of play was awful. On the 12th hole we saw a ranger just 2 minutes after the foursome finally let us through,.
Fairways, bunkers, and teeing areas were all consistent and in good shape. The range was closed.
Fun course . Wind and water a tough combo.
Big time greens.
Multiple tees very helpful and essential.
Would definitely play again.
Nicest course in PCB
This is the nicest of the 3 local courses in the immediate PCB area. Quite challenging at times. The yardages can be deceiving and the course seems to play long. Fairways in good shape. Greens were so-so with some sort of grass sprouting on them that can affect your putts. Staff was friendly and accommodating. I will be back.
Great Round
I have been playing golf for 50+ years. This was the most pleasant, friendliest staff of any course I have ever played. Pro Shop employees, starter, marshall and beverage girl. Good course for players of all skill levels.
Good condition for winter
My wife and I played 18 holes, booked through GolfNow.
Course was in good shape for winter. Greens very fast.
More water than I remembered!
Staff very friendly and accommodating
Enjoyed ourselves thoroughly
Great
We enjoyed the course. The only problem was that the foursome behind us almost hit one of us twice. If they could not see us, before hitting their ball, one of them, should have come to check whether or not it was ok for them to play.
However, we are playing again on Tuesday and are really looking forward to it.
Nice condition but flat !
Forgiving fairways with the usual Florida raised green structures. Water everywhere but drivable. Most interesting holes were 4 and 17. St. Mellions in England is worthy of the Nicklaus name, this not so much.
Worth the drive
A perfect day for golf. After playing once, I want another crack at it. You will need the map they give you at the start,
Loved the course
This course was so much fun
Staff was very friendly and helpful
Pricing was reasonable
My only concern was I was expecting to grab a sandwich at the turn only to find out it wasn’t near the clubhouse
Had I known that I would have picked something up from the cart which came by around the 7th hole.
Otherwise thank you for a wonderful day
Round @ Bay Point
This is a beautiful course; nicely laid out with water on 16 of 18 holes. The greens are fast. I played in winter conditions with fairly bare but playable fairways and rough. The course marshal could have done a bit better with a slow-playing group two or three groups in front of my group, but we still finished in just over 4 hours.
