Reviews
Beautiful and challenging
Great course to play for the money. Tee boxes were not the best bit fairways and greens were good. Worth the money!
Very nice (tough) course
Excellent efficient service and price. Course is tough, rolling, and difficult at least for me. But I shot well <95 last couple of times. Greens were somewhat spotty with many ball marks and allot of dirt patches on fairways but overall Id definitely come back. Nice tough course.
1st time play
i played this course from the silver tees, a little over 7000 yards. And I usually shoot low 90's from the blue's on most courses. I found the staff to be friendly, however the course was not very busy. The grounds were very neat. Due to a fraternity golf tournament, my round started on 10. This course has many very tough holes as it is pretty much cut right out out of the mountains with several elevated tees. the fairways are about average with so on most holes if your long and straight its a premium. The tee's are high, so you'll have to climb up to them without any steps, so you really need to be in good shape.
Greens are playing fast!
The course is in great shape! It makes you play all of your clubs in your bag. I enjoyed the elevation changes and the undulating green (rolling fast). The scenery is great, feels like you playing in the mountains. It was worth the drive!
Good course and a great value!
I've played this course 4 to 5 times over the last 2 years. The greens are very large and always in great shape. That's what keeps me coming back. The course is in very good condition overall, with the exception of some tee boxes. Fairways are in top shape and the ball sets up nicely for a mountain type course. Be prepared for some 3 puts since the greens are super fast. I highly recommend this course for its beauty, rolling fairways, greens and value!
for the money
For what my friend and I paid on Golf Now for this beautiful course I can't imagine more for less. Challenging course and well maintained.
Won't go back
course conditions have declined a lot since the last time I played here. Greens are nice, rest of the course is Very poor. Tee boxes have little to no grass on them. I would value around of golf at this course around $15.
Excellent course
Surprisingly good for the money! I enjoyed the elevation changes and well manicured course.
Lion Club
This course is very under rated. It is beautiful, has some fantastic scenery. It is a bit of a drive from Atlanta, but well worth it. My daughter and I played in less than 4 hours. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The greens were in good shape, the fairways need more sun to grow. I have played here half a dozen times and really enjoy it. Its one of my favorite courses. The only recommendation I can give is for them to get a beverage cart. Cant complain about $2 beer though.
April flowers
The course is in really good condition for the first week in April. Some of the tee boxes need work. With the recent rains the fairways had grass clippings in waves at the low points. Greens were in excellent condition.
Overall great experience.
Played in early December. Course is hilly with a few blind shots. I guess if you know the course that is fine, however, we did not. I would like to go back again now that I have seen the course. Staff was friendly. The club pro, Matthew Kemp is an outstanding pro. I think you should give it a try.
Great afternoon golf
Tee boxes are in need of some major attention. They're not up to participate for this course. Great layout, and somewhat mountainous for it to be west Georgia. After a long 17 holes, # 18, a long par 5, that has to carry over the lake to the green, will really test your golf skills.
Fun Course
Just played The Lion for the first time. Its really a mountain course with lots of elevation changes and some really interesting holes. Staff was great. Worth the drive from Atlanta.
Lion Golf Club Review
Pros:
-Great routing
-Interesting holes
-You'll use every club in the bag
-Pace of play was reasonable
-Solid value
Cons:
-Several tees were extremely patchy
-Some patchiness around the greens not from aeration; I'm okay with brown grass, don't need full and lush, but these were dirt patches
-No course guide offered in the shop; impossible to play course the first time without a guide. I had to give up and treat it as a learn the course/practice round.
Overall a great course with just a couple of maintenance issues that keep it from really standing out. Issues aside I would definitely play again and am actually chomping at the bit to play it again now that I've seen the course.
The course is very hilly.
We enjoyed the course. The beauty and challenge is very good. My husband is a much better golfer than I am and he found it interesting and fun. I enjoy being outside in a beautiful setting. It was extremely challenging for me. The greens had just been aerated,
but I still found putting to be easy. The long stretches across rough caused me problems and I would need to play this course several times to develope the length drive needed. All in all we enjoyed the course and will return one day.
great course
have played many times over several years and always enjoyed it.
Not a novice course
18 VERY DIFFERENT HOLES....NO DUPLICATION.
LOTS OF ELEVATION CNANGES. MAKES YOU USE EVERY C.UB. YOU GOTTA PLAN YOUR SHOTS.
PAR AND BOGIES ARE THE NORM. A GREAT TEST OF GOLF.
This course is absolutely amazing.
On my vacation to Atlanta, I had the pleasure of playing The Lion. I chose The Lion because it had the best reviews of all the courses in the area. I was not disappointed. The layout BREATHTAKING. The course PRISTINE. Despite 1 or 2 hiccups it was one of the best courses I've played. From the fairways to the greens, the course is very well maintained. I would highly recommend playing this course, and look forward to returning with friends upon my return to the area.
They should call this Mountain Lion
Even though I had read some reviews that talked about the mountain feel of this course. I was surprized. This course was more like a mountain course than alot of mountain courses I've played. Every hole had either up or down elevation changes. One of my favorite was the appx 180 Par 3 # 16 I think. Beautiful course, very soft greens and fairways were in great condition. A little thin around the edges like most courses in the south where the grass meets the trees. All in all a very enjoyable round. Definitely a must play if in the Western Ga area just off I 20.
