Great Layout, Challenging, Greens are in Bad Shape
Such a beautiful course, Shame that the Greens were so bad. Putting was a cr@p shoot. The course just needs some TLC.
Good progress!
Fairways and greens are on the rebound and new carts are in play. Looking forward to the spring! The date played was 12/09/2015,
Good course
This course continues to improve. Under new management, the course gets better every day! The staff is incredibly friendly.
One of my favorite courses for the money.
Beautiful Course!
The greens had recently been aerated but everything else was nice. Beautiful scenery.
Mr. Burress
Please, don't waste your money. It the worst golf course for the condition and the (money) GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT is don't keep the course up. THE 1ST CUT OF FAIRWAY ARE BADDD!!!! PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY
Overhaul needed!
Let me start out by saying I was fair warned before I played, the course is under new ownership and has been bank owned for the last 4yrs. This could be a hidden gem when they get it together, loved the layout but it's in real bad shape (tee to green)!
Stated they are getting in new equipment (needed) and they are in the process of repair. Staff was very friendly, needs a clubhouse.
I am being generous because of the staff
Other than this date, the last time I played Durham Lakes which was three years ago was just bad and I stopped playing only going there to use the driving range facilities which are pretty good.
They have been under new management around this time and it appear they were doing some work on the course so I gave it another look; it was worse than I remembered.
1. The sandtraps look like dirt and you can see the membrane in all of them. Only one trap had a rake and you didn't even need it as there was nothing to rake.
2. The fairways looked like an overgrown field and has many dirt spots throughout..
3. The greens all now have fungus on they and golfers have not been fixing their pitchmarks.
4. The cart paths are overgrown with shrubbery and you have to duck and slide on the cart bench so as not to get hit by it.
5. I would play 18 holes again ONLY IF THE RATE WAS $10 INCLUDING TAX & FEES DURING PRIME TIME!
This is a semi-private course and worse than the worse public course I know.
Fun layout bad condition
First time I played the course in a course years. I hopped the conditions would have been better then last time but they were worse. Disappointing as I love the layout.
Needs lots of TLC
Start with the positives, really fun layout and gal at pro shop was very friendly. The pace was great (only saw one other group out there, on a Saturday afternoon). That's it for the good. The course is in awful shape. Played there about a year ago, and conditions have not improved. Greens are mud with over grown weeds/grass. Sand traps are not playable, no sand. Fairways/rough no good either. I bought a cheap hot deal, and it probably wasn't even worth that. You've been warned.
Poor Conditions
I have played this course many times throughout the years. The course was in terrible conditions. There were bumps throughout the fairway with inconsistent turf and the greens have 2-3 ft weeds growing out of them with black burn spots on every green. They have let it go in the past couple of years. It is already a tough layout and the level of difficulty is increased with the poor playing conditions. I would not play this course again.
Unplayable
Bunkers were empty and literally didn't have any sand in them. Fairways needed to be cut and greens had weeds growing on them. Seems like the course has been abandoned for the past couple of weeks. I heard it is under new ownership as of a couple of weeks ago, but personally I will not play there again until next spring until they fix the course.
needs work
Give the new owner time to put money into the course. Layout is great but course has been neglected. The new owner has good intentions I hear. I hope he keeps it a public course.
Give it 8 Months
I never leave reviews, but felt obligated here. This course is not playable right now. Completely unmaintained, greens are horrible. New ownership, they said by April it will be back, but do not waste your time right now. I wish someone would have warned me first.
the course was just ok
the course was ok, have seen it in much better condition. the greens need much work .
Stay away
This is the closest course to my house but I would rather travel 50 miles further to play than to waste my money and time on a course that is only meant to be used for a driving range
Very nice course for the money
The course has a lot of challenges for the true golfer. The back nine is very fun/ full of water hazards. The fair ways need a little work to smove them out. Once they get a handle on that the course really will be very nice.
Changing Quickly!
This was my first time playing at Durham Lakes in about 1.5 years. It has come / is coming a long way. They had just seeded fairways about a week ago, they were about 80% good to go. Nice to hit off of.
Greens are filling in nicely, playing pretty slow however. The course is finally starting to play to its strengths. I will be back a number of times this summer.
Awesome value for a quick ride from ATL.
Dead fairways
Don't play here!
Layout good, greens wonderful!
Tee blocks and fairways have not been watered in years! It's unplayable.
Not Great But....
I am not going to bash this course. It was placed under a golf management company 6 months ago. The staff was friendly and I actually felt sorry for them because they are having difficulty generating traffic to the course. Less traffic=less revenue for improvements. That being said the property condition was known when you took over management.
On the bright side, the greens were in good shape.
