Elevated Greens
I realize the pros need the challenge of elevated and tiered greens, but I'm not a big fan of that type of design. However, they were very good putting surfaces. A little less wind would also be helpful!
Course was in outstanding condition
Greens, fairways and tee boxes were in great condition. Cart had an ice chest with two bottles of water complimentary. My only disappointment is that there was no difference between your rate and the standard greens fees. We played at twilight and with your fee it cost more than if we went directly to the course .
Great course but.....
KoOlina is a wonderful course. Excellent conditions every time I play there. Unfortunately, the pace of play was affected by an organized and instructionalized group class of beginners they have on the golf course. On the two particular days I played (both on Sundays), I teed off first at 6:30 am. Normally, when teeing off that early, our rounds are done in 3 hours and 15 mins if not sooner. I love that about teeing off early in the am. But the two times I played on a Sunday, they had a group of beginners on the course. Unfortunately, they held up play and ruined the nice pace we all had been playing. We all spoke to the GM about this. He explained how there is a program at KoOlina in which beginners are taught to play golf. I told the GM I don't mind programs like this, but they have to be timed where it doesn't interrupt the pace of play of golfers. Probably the best times to teach these type of beginning programs is twilight, not the prime hours of golf. I would highly recommend to play but I would call in advance to see if these classes may affect the pace of play. If these classes are in session, I would recommend playing Kapolei Golf Course instead.
Overpriced
Most expensive course on the island of Oahu for locals and tourists. There are many other courses to play at 1/2 the price of Ko Olina. Try Pearl Country Club or Turtle Bay, Hawaii Prince or Coral Creek. Biggest complaint is the cost, not worth the money.
Nice track
After playing some of the soggy inland courses nice to play a nice firm track.
Conditions near perfect ... As they probably should be 2 weeks before an LPGA event.
Nice mix of holes . Good balance of challenging and easier holes. One of those courses
That keep you coming back,
Find your Hawaiian "place of joy" at Ko Olina Golf Club on Oahu
I love the Ko Olina Golf Club for the same reasons the LPGA Tour does.
The manmade waterfalls of Ko Olina look great on TV and even better in person. And Ko Olina won't beat you up like most PGA Tour venues. There's just enough challenge to keep things interesting. When the trade winds blow, it's a real chore to score.
The LOTTE Championship is the third LPGA Tour event at Ko Olina since the 6,815-yard course opened in 1990. Beth Daniel won the 1990 Hawaiian Ladies Open, the first of six Hawaiian Ladies Opens held on the Ted Robinson design. The Fields Open had a three-year run that began in 2006, highlighted by Paula Creamer's 2008 victory. Going way back, Chi Chi Rodriguez won the 1992 Ko Olina Senior PGA Invitational.
The waterfalls on the par-3s at No. 8 and No. 12 are scenic but always daunting. The final water hazard left of the 18th green has helped decide a tournament or two.
Ko Olina translates in Hawaiian to mean "place of joy." This place delivers.
OUTRAGEOUS!
C;mon guys....You're in Hawaii, you're on a PRISTINE course, how bad can life be? If the wind isn't blowing this course is GREAT for the 7-15 HC golfer. It's challenging and quite fun, greens hold and can be tough to read at times because of the terrain/ocean draw. Good "bang for the buck".
