My day @ Chapel Hill
The course is nice and we're very well taken care of but the layout and design is not comfortable playing.
Pleasant Afternoon
My only real complaint is that the pace of play is always slow. Probably a combination of no controls over tee time (people tee off early) and golfers who are in no hurry to maintain a good pace.
One thing that is nice, however, is that most people will let you pass them. This is an indication that the players are nice and pleasant, just like the staff.
Humble and down to earth
Short and simple for the most part. The fairway are in terrible condition if you want to really call them fairways. Had to hit a lot of shots from hard ground or patchy grass. Greens however are in excellent shape. It has interesting layout. Par 3 holes are very long from the tips. All people I met there were friendly and welcoming.
You will feel at ease there and I suspect a lot of people will like this place. You will find people from all walks of life playing here.
If you are there for golf alone, you probably can do better at other courses. If you are there to play some casual golf with friends and have a relaxed day, this is a good place.
Nice day @ Chapel Hill
It was a good day to play. It was a Saturday afternoon and sunny. But it was busy and lots of people.
Get what you pay for.
I golf here a lot, and usually everything flows nicely, but 30 min wait at tee box, and of course everyone is in a rush behind us. People in front of us drive up and hit someone in front of us. Crappy golfers hitting from the blue tees. It was a joke. 4:30 hours for 14 holes had to leave for my piece of mind.
Great value
Course is mediocre and needs some upkeep. That being said $22 for 18 and a cart well with it!
Just Deal with it folks
Go ahead and complain about this course. We play it each year with our Golfvisions players pass book. The clubhouse is big old square shack which has a men's room, women's room, long bar and kitchen. The original clubhouse was torn down years ago. Course is kept in just playable shape. The greens are pretty decent and were rolling ok for us. All other ground is rock hard.....so the course is playing hard and fast to the point where you have to play the front yardage of every green as your distance or if the flag is in front play 10 yards less than the green front. We had a very fun day. The hard fast conditions made for most interesting round where the 5th, 13th and 15th holes became short par 4's that were easily reached by a well placed drive off the tee. The par 5 9th also became reachable in two. With the way to dry conditions grass is sparse on the fairways. The traps haven't been maintained much if at all in several years. I've learned to just putt out of them if I get in one. Tee boxes are marginally ok but have lots of divots in them.
Chapel Hill is always a solid 3 stars - it's usually never that crowded and doesn't chew on your wallet too hard. Just adapt the conditions that are presented. You won't play well if you're complaining about it. There's a mix of long holes (the first 4 holes, 17 and 18) and the rest of the course are pretty much short holes for their par. Big greens and small greens. Once a season is enough for me but I never complain about playing here.
Worst Course I Have Ever Played…
If you want to hit off concrete style fairways, rough, and tee boxes this is the course for you. The only perk about this course is that your ball will roll an extra 100 yards because the ground is so hard. Never watered besides the greens. The holes are so over watered that your ball with go in 3 inches of water after each putt. Really sad cause I liked this course last year, but it’s gone downhill. Would not play here again.
DRY
Nice course just needs watered. Very hard ground. Hilly courses like this one that get no water enhance the dry conditions.
Great course for the price!
Chapel Hill GC is a great course overall for the price compared to other courses in the area. The pace was a bit slow this last time but usually not to bad. Staff is awesome and extremely friendly!
Tee boxes: Decent but do need some work.
Fairways: rock hard and need work. The roll on the fairways is crazy due to them being so dry. But overall decent condition
Bunkers: great condition
Greens: fast and soft, excellent condition.
Carts: Decent basic golf carts. No gps or usb charging
Overall an awesome course to play with some challenging shots and greens. Great staff!
Horrible course
I play at least 3 times a week and at over 30 different courses in the area this year. This was by far the worst course I have played on. The entire course the ground was so hard it was like hitting off concrete. Also the fairways and rough are cut almost the same so you can’t tell if you are hitting to a fairway or into rough. Seems like they have never heard of an aerator. This is on my list of courses to never go back to again.
