Perfect weather except the wind. The most fast greens we played lately.
We like fast greens and these greens were extremely fast but manageable. Because of the wind the pace of the play was very good. We finished the round in 3:45 hrs. It appeared that they might have a new owner or management. There was some good improvements made since we played here a couple of years ago. The staff was not overly friendly but was kind enough to play 15 minutes before our tee time. The last time we played two years ago, the staff was very unprofessional saying that “I cannot let you play before your tee time because it’s GolfNow and we don’t make any money”. We decided to stay away from the course. But now we will return to play here whenever we can. Thanks GolfNow.
Fairways were in great shape
The course was in great shape for February. It wasn’t cart path only. The greens were ok. The bunkers played nicely. I only paid &
$12 for 18 with a cart
It's all about the greens.
A late December golf date couldn't have gone better than the time we spent at Plumas Lake GC recently. Heavy rains early in the week did not dampen our experience. The fairways allowed the ball to roll some and were firm enough for our carts. But this course is all about the undulating greens and pin placements. We think the greenskeeper had it in for us this day. A lot of the holes were placed on ridgetops - resulting in too many 3-putts and not enough 1-putts. But we'll be back again and again until we figure these greens out!
Pace of play was terrible
We were a 2 some trying to play at a good pace. Round was okay until we caught up to a 5 some. We latter saw a 6 some after the turn. This was the first time we have seen a course that allows a 6 some
Undulating Challenging Greens
The course is over-rated from a course rating and slope standpoint. 70.9/123 from the blue tees is too high for being only 6,159 yards. But the greens are hard, firm and hard to hold, especially for short pitch shots. The greens have a lot of slope and undulation considering how small the green size is. Played in 3 1/2 hours as a twosome, but had to play a few holes out of order to get ahead of two fivesomes in front of us.
Undulating Challenging Greens
Course is in decent shape, but not excellent. Many dry areas. Greens were decent, but not at the traditional Plumas Lake standard of green and fast. Greens were firm, but not allowing the ball to bite quickly. After 10 a.m. very few people teeing off, as it was 98 degrees at 4 p.m.
Consistent course. Ok condition.
Back in the day, this course was crowded every time out. Now if you play in the afternoon you have the course to yourself which is nice. It's a dry course, and the greens are harder than others, but it's consistent. The fairways are consistently mowed, sand is good quality, but I do wish things were a little greener.
Awesome Greens
I played Plumas today and I had an excellent round. It was 98 degrees when I tee’d off so I played by myself. Ha ha. Lots of dog legs and if you play your shots correctly you can score well. The greens were amazing and I figured out I play undulating greens the best. The number 9 and 18 holes are drivable and I birdied both so don’t be afraid to go for it. I would recommend this course to all and if you don’t mind playing in the summer heat get a few guys/gals together for a round and you can finish within 3 hours. Hit’m straight.
Horrible condition
This course is in serious need of some water. The fairways are concrete with zero live grassardage. Furthermore gps in the carts doesn’t give actual yardage, actually no info about the hole being played at all. The greens bounce like trampolines they do not hold. I would avoid this course and certainly would not drive from Sacramento to play it.
Fun Day
We had a great time. The greens were challenging mostly because of pin placement. We will be back.
Convenient Golf
The course is close and reasonably priced. Conditions are decent for a daily fee course and the staff was very friendly
Hidden gem
My buddy and I were looking for a different place to play, so after a search online, I found Plumas Lake Golf Club. Cool place in the middle of nowhere....nice!
The greens were in great shape, like the tee boxes. The rough was mowed, limiting the likelihood of lost balls. The course has. a revenue running through it, so there are plenty of challenges during 18 holes. The elevation changes and dog-legged right/left turns cause you to turn on the course management mentality.
We started the day with breakfast, which was terrific. We finished the day with a hotdog and pitcher of beer, which was a welcome relief on a hot day. Staff were friendly and helpful.
I am looking forward to going back.
Condition of greens
No one advised me that the greens had recently been aerated and sanded. Totally reduced the value of our outing. Too much money for the condition of the greens!
Rough Conditions
Greens were just punched, but there was no notification when I booked the round. The course layout has character and requires a variety of shots, unfortunately it seems the lack of water has resulted in fairways that are dry and in some areas more weed than grass. All in all a really good layout, not in great condition.
Worst conditions ever
Tee time booked on GolfNow at 8:10. Got to course at approx. 7:30am. Seemed like no one on course. Asked if we can tee off. Clerk said no. We puttted for another 15 mins and then asked again if we could tee off. Clerk argued company policy, finally said do what u want, he did not want to further discuss. Greens were recently punched and sanded. Clumps of sand all over. Rough not mowed. They started mowing and left all the grass in piles. 3:15 tp play. Played a month ago, night and day!!! What happened!!!
Average course, but it's okay, very flat
We booked our round via Golf Now, there were no warnings posted that the course punched the greens. When we arrived, we were informed that the greens had been punched.
Overall this course was good, not great, not bad, but good.
You need to have course knowledge as you can get in trouble because there are a lot of fairways with a creek running through them. There are also forced layups to know about. You must choose your clubs wisely.
The course has a lot of trees. The sand traps are not your basic sand, it is more like river bank sand, it's brown, not white, and it plays differently than the standard white sand.
The golf carts have an electronic map (Pseudo GPS), but they do not have distances on the maps. You need to bring your own range finder or GPS equipment. Some of the trees along the fairways have yardage signs on them. We found one tree that said it was 118 yards to the green, yet 2 of our GPS units said 144 yards to the green.
If you don't know the course, you can get lost. They could use more signs pointing you to the next tee. There are some signs but not enough, we got turned around a few times.
Overall the course is hard, but not too hard.
The grounds crew needs to mow the rough, we lost several balls that were still in the fairway but in the first cut and we couldn't find our balls.
There is Driving range and putting green.
I wouldn't eat on the patio, too many smokers, it ruins your food.
The staff here was friendly
I will come back in about 4 weeks after the greens have come back to life.,
