Unplayable
Due to the amount of rain this season, the course was unplayable. Good layout with a few real difficult holes, greens with significant winter burns and lots of water in the fairway; I didn’t enjoy the outing. The price was very good, very good practice facilities and the staff was extremely friendly, accommodating and apologized for the conditions. Under normal conditions, I would recommend this course.
Not as nice as it used to be
I played here about 6 years ago, it was great. Not so much this time, course was in awful shape, tee boxes were hacked up, fairways were ok, greens were aerated but in rough shape. We’re were the only ones on the 18 hole course which was great but our cart broke down half way through and it took the pro shop an hour to get another one out. We paid $25 each for a hot GN deal and I would say we overpaid. It’s a shame this course is on the shape it is
Not going back
Plain and simple, this is a middling track that is giving zero effort to be better. From the comical lack of ball washers and garbage cans to the arrogance and lies when confronted about any shortcomings, this pasture will continue to battle the Metcalfes and Irish Hills of the Ottawa area until they figure things out. Even as a bargain, don’t expect much.
Different front and back 9s
First 9s fairly easy and wide open, back 9s (in particular 10 to 13) are totally different set up with narrow and difficult fairways. I rather play the front 9s twice.
Disappointed based on other's reviews
We booked FR based on many positive reviews of the course but there are lots of nicer public courses in Ottawa. The front 9 is your basic cow pasture turned wide open and flat golf course. The back nine is cut out of the woods and vary narrow in spots. You are right on the landing path for the airport, I mean the wheels are down, which was actually interesting. Pace of play was real slow considering everyone in front of us was in carts. I highly recommend carts as there is long spaces between holes.
Good Course Good Value
Enjoyable round. The course was initially a nine-hole that was expanded at some point to 18. You can see two styles of design. 10th hole my favorite. 18th very nice too. Not discouraging for the over 100 scoring player. Glad they offer walking rates for those that want that too.
Course in great shape
Greens were soft and rolled good , front nine open and long , back nine definitely target golf but nice to play
where is the cart girl, or guy
The course was great, wide open on the front 9 , narrow and alot tougher on the back9. The only bad thing about the course was there was no cart girl/guy and no canteen open on the course. You were to far from the club house to get a drink, so you better load up before you tee off...
Great course
In really good shape with very friendly staff. The greens were awesome
Fair but only for a hot deal.
There are some reasons for my overall rating as fair, and it's a low fair.
1. Having never played the course before and not taking the time to reasearch it on-line there is an additional 9 hole course (Raceview) with the first tee right beside the clubhouse. The group didn't know any better and started there. Pro shop didn't mention anything and I didn't ask when checking in. They didn't have a problem with the group heading over to the Falcon Ridge course after we realized our mistake.
2. The course is still recovering from a very wet spring, all holes were open with the exception of 17 (par 5). All tee boxes on 17 have been moved forward to about 200 yards from the green. Not sure how much longer the hole will play this way but will probably be opened up in a week or so. Nothin was mentioned on-line or at the course that we noticed about this. Greens are a decent size and in good condition. The course layout changes up from a very forgiving front 9 to for the most part an unforgiving tightish back 9. #18 was the nicest hole in my opinion, decent dog leg right with elevated tee box and green.
3. Advertises 4 tee boxes ranging from 5383 to 6945 yards (red, white, blue, yellow) whites and blues are the same on 9 holes. On applicable fairways the 250,200,150,100 yardage markers were lined down both sides of the fairway which helped for aiming off the tee box and distances were accurate from what I could tell.
4. There was a halfway house after #7 that was closed...on a Saturday. Main club house is a fair distance away by power cart after finishing #9 (over 500 yards). #10 tee box is right beside #9 green and you would have to drive past #2 tee box and the full distance of #1 to get to the clubhouse and then back, so definitely not convenient.
5. Beverage cart was out, passed us 3 times during our round and was very friendly. Didn't go into the clubhouse/restaurant and didn't use the practice area (putting green or range) so no comment.
For this time of year overall I would have felt jipped if I walked on and paid standard green fees or non hot deal on golf now. The hot deal with cart after playing seemed a bit pricy but when the course has fully recoverd later in the season I would recommend the hot deal with cart only. Our group scores were between 83 and 105. I consider myself a fair to tough critic when it comes to reviewing golf courses.
Excellent value
Having never played the course, I was unsure of what lay ahead. I was very pleasantly surprised by the layout. The front is wide open and fun to play. The back 9 is tight and very much target golf. There are tee boxes for all levels and the pace of play was being excellent. I will be returning for sure!!!
LOVE THE LONG PAR 5s
Great course and a good mix of various distances and landscape challenges
Nice Course, Good value
I and 2 friends I haven't golfed with for 5 years went on a Hot Deal. We had a great time. The course is in pretty good shape. I am a poor golfer so did not do that well but that is my fault. It is a fair track, the greens are in good shape, and all staff we came in contact with were happy and helpful. Golfed here 2 times this year and will go back.
A pleasant round...great weather and friends.
#10 a bit of a challenge...be prepared to look for your ball!
Not sure why there are large areas of wood chips near the greens on two holes (on the back nine). Never have seen this before on any other course. Not an easy "chip" shot onto the green if you end up there!
Lot of fun
Had a very enjoyable time at the course. Staff were very friendly.
Very Good Course - close to Ottawa
Very good course. The front 9 is very open as is most of the back - but 10/11/and 12 are very tight and challenging. Would help if there were a sign with distances to the landing areas/obstacles especially on the blind 10/11 & 12 holes
Slow pace
Very slow pace and no marshals around to control players
Thanks for coming out and playing Alan! Hope to see you soon!
