Providence Golf Club
About
Providence Golf Club in Richmond has a rich and unique history. The original location along the Pocoshock Creek closed in 1985 but the property and an adjacent parcel of land were then bought by a new development company. The additional land was used for six new holes while the original property now has longer and more spacious holes. The golf course then had another redesign in 2002 that was overseen by Virginia native Lester George, who is known for designing the highest ranked golf course in the state, Kinloch Golf Club. Providence G.C. wanders through a beautiful landscape of towering trees and wetlands. George utilized these natural features to create a number of risk-reward opportunities throughout the course. The golf course finishes with a risk-reward hole that is heavily guarded by both bunkers and a creek.

Do everything you can to avoid the greenside bunker on the par-4 7th. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 03/11/2020
Aerified greens Full Price
I was charged $75 for unputtable greens, with the bunkers filled with the aerified plugs rendering them unplayable. EverY green was also surrounded by the plugs so if you were short you had to chip through 6 inches if plugs..
WILL NOT RETURN THIS YEAR...
SHAMEFUL.
Solid course
Played on a really nice Sunday day here with two other guys.
Overall the course was in pretty great shape. A couple of the greens were beat to death from people not fixing divots.
Course is pretty open and not many balls were lost today.
Would return for another round!
Great course
Course in really good shape. A lot of unrepaired ball marks on greens, but overall in great shape
Consistantly good
Course was in great shape, and for playing sunday morning the pace of play was fantastic will definitely play here again.
Not again
Greens look like pubescent 14 year-old's face with all the divot marks. Sand traps are hard like a gravel pit. Fairways look good on the surface, but hard ground is underneath. Course layout makes for a confusing cart path direction at times. Did like the hole design, however.
Overpriced
Overpriced mud pit with greens that look like a teenager"s forehead. Convenience is the only reason to play this course. Range closed, cart path only. erosion spots everywhere and the greens were stimping at about 6. Pace was excruciatingly slow until the very nice Ranger got things moving on the back 9. I feel bad for anyone who pays almost $70 for this course, worth about $45 normally but not worth $25 in the condition it was in. I fixed close to 100 ball marks, some about an inch deep.
Providence GC
Super nice layout ! Playable for all skill levels!
Always in great shape!
Providence
Course is in great shape tee to green. Pace of play was good. Great layout. Kuddos to management for maintaining great conditions through the hot summer. This course blows the doors off other public courses around Richmond.
Outstanding
Love Providence. The course conditions are great. Greens are a tad slow but with the heat they can’t cut them down too much. Greens crew were out and about watering and keeping the course nice. Great value for the money and would play it again tomorrow.
Great shape
Glad to see this course was in great shape. The layout is nice. Although there was a ton of rain recently, I do think the bunkers need some work.
Condition is great
First time playing providence since January and was pleasantly surprised by the greens and fairways!! Very good to excellent grass and mow job. Greens are really smooth with good speed. Only criticism I have is to the golfers that play here and that is : Repair your divots on the fairways and your ball marks (and 1 other). It’ll help keep greens and fairways above average!! And RAKE THE TRAP THAT YOU JUST HIT FROM
Great shape!
The staff at Providence needs to be commended. The greens, fairways and tee boxes were in excellent condition. Bunkers were hit or miss, and from what I understand they are better to miss!
Decent public course
Greens were in good condition, fairways are coming in nice, and tee boxes didn't have any issues. Front nine seems to be more challenging vs a few back and forth holes on the back nine specifically 14,15,16. Played from the blue tees which fit my handicap.
