Great fun course

While visiting military family on the base at Fort Lee, it was a convenient course to play and enjoy the day. The staff was wonderful and strategically placed us as we had some new golfers with us. Very helpful - great day.

Cardinal Course review

Amazing course, especially Blue and White, Red is a good one for beginners , white is good for anyone, and blue is pretty difficult even for me, I've played the course about 50 times, and it's still not any easier.

The greens...

3 sets of 9 holes. Blue and white are very challenging, red is straightforward.

The greens suck and they always have. Each one is different, slow, fast, in between, very unpredictable. Bunkers, they aren’t Florida fluffy white sand and rarely raked by the machines.

But the good would be the layouts. Good for an MWR funded course.

27 holes to play

I’ve played this course many, many times. For the most part, it is a very good layout with a wide variety of club selections.

So the good -

Layout is excellent in that you have some links style fairways, old school holes, and almost no gimmies. Really, it isn’t some high class track, but they try to keep things on good shape.

So the bad -

My only enduring complaint, and it will continue for the foreseeable future, is the greens. They are WONDERFULLY shaped and sloped, but they never roll them. So In the sense of true roll, you get some unpredictability in most of your putts. I like 12+ on my meter. Fast and true are my preference.

If you can get on the base, play it.

Complete review Fort Lee golf.

I must note that I am an active duty military member that plays here often as I live just down the road. So the White Nine has much more character than the Red despite being built around the same time. Two summers ago now the greens were switched from Bent to Bermuda. There are some early rough spots on the greens as well which is unfortunate considering how new they are. The green on Number 1 is the worst by far not just on the White but throughout all 27 holes here. Hopefully things will begin to grow in the bare areas because that is really the only blight on the White 9. This is another good course here for beginners as it is an easy walk and there are really on three difficult holes of the nine. More than a few of the tee boxes are thin on grass and rock hard. Just wish they would take some trees out around some of the boxes and then the grass would grow back in thicker. The par 5 seventh hole is reachable in 2 with a better than average drive. The par 4 sixth you will want to hit about 200 yard off the tee to be in the best approach situation. Don't let your tee shot on the par 5 ninth stray right or you risk being in the water that separates that hole from the number 5 on the Blue course. All in all the 27 holes at Fort Lee are all unique to each other. It is a good place for the beginner to intermediate to hone their skills as none of the nines are overwhelming. There is a unique short game practice area nestled between the White and Red nines. The driving range is mats only and there are two practice putting greens. The staff is friendly and will accommodate getting you out to play if you don't have a tee time. For the military member that likes to play I am not sure you can beat the value that you will get here compared to other courses in the area that only offer a military rate M-Th or M-F.

Fort Lee Army post 27-hole review

The 3 separate nines on Fort Lee's course are in the worst shape they have been in in roughly two years. VERY little maintenance is performed on the course outside of mowing. Sprinklers have not been turned on once in six months and the ground is hard as asphalt constantly. Bunkers, tee boxes are in terrible shape. Course is used by mostly retirees and civilians that don't repair ball marks, fix divots or rake bunkers. Until the manager makes an effort to care, stay away if you are looking for a course with good conditions.
