an unhidden gem
liked the layout and conditions a lot. Difficult course but worth playing several times
Memorial Weekend Golf 2018
Great shot makers course. Canterbury has the best greens in NH for a public course. Love the fact that the speed of the greens are actually ~12 for this time of year.
Great value
Course in very good shape. Played comfortably in under 4 hours
Late teetime
Our tee time was for 11:40 but they held us up until 12 pm. Course was in excellent condition. Play was very slow, it took us 4.5 hours to play.
SPECTACULAR
Greens were being airated, pro shop attendant wasn't very friendly. Otherwise an incredible beautiful course. 5 stars.
Fun course
With the exeception of the greens just being airraited the course was perfect! Great course and a lot of fun
Awesome course
This course was one of my favorite I've played in a long time. The greens were perfect, the fairways were plush and the layout makes you use every club in your bag. If you are in the area don't miss playing this place.
CW
I like & play this course a lot. One guy in our group plays the back tees and likes it also. Play the blues if you normally play whites at other courses. The course has a fair number of hills (most get carts) and some blind shots so first time players may want a book or app to help with that (if they are serious about scoring). Don't be discouraged if backed up at first few holes as it opens up after the 3rd. Relax and enjoy scenery and wildlife which can include deer, fox, turkeys. The easy par 5 10th is a great birdie op, maybe eagle with with left center drive.
Course is always in good shape, however if weather has been dry for a long period of time (August usually) you may find some dried out places (the course drains quite rapidly, so its a good spring course). Staff is great on course and in clubhouse. Food is good, beer always cold and the raised deck offers nice view of finishing hole. $ is OK, pretty std.
Sunday afternoon
Got to the course for a 2:30 teetime thinking that we would be able to finish our round by 7:10s dusk. After paying we were told carts need to be back by 6:45 and the pace of play was terrible. Don't they have anyone around checking on how slow a threesome could be. We will be back but not during a situation like this
This place moved to the "watch list!"
Beautiful course, perfect conditions, but very slow play!
Canterbury Woods is a beautiful course with incredible views and scenery all around. The course design is fairly challenging and gives different skill levels a challenge in one way or another. The course is very well-maintained and the staff is very friendly. This was our first time here, but the pace was incredibly slow. In fact, we were delayed 30 minutes from our scheduled tee time. That was very frustrating, and I imagine they just overbooked. That coupled with the lack of a ranger keeping pace out on the course led to my 4-star rating. Otherwise, it would have been 5 stars.
A fun Labor Day round.
We had the opportunity to play this wonderful course at a great rate through Golf Now. Course was in excellent condition and the greens were fast and smooth. The rate of play was quite slow but it was such a nice day with wonderful scenery it didn't bother us to much. I would definitely play this course again on another trip to NH.
Great Golf Course, Even Better Value
There are plenty of first-class courses in New England that will cost you a pretty penny and countless cheap courses that are nothing to write home about. Canterbury Woods is a rare combination of a fantastic course that charges a fraction of what they could.
I paid $35 for my Sunday afternoon (pre twilight rate) at a course that is similar in condition and overall quality as those (like Owl’s Nest up the road) charging more than twice as much. Of the 80+ courses I’ve played, only Colonial Heritage in my home state of Virginia offers as good a value.
The conditions of the course are top rate with smooth, even fairways, rough, greens, tee boxes, and bunkers in superb shape. No burnt out areas or soggy spots, the greens roll fast and true, and the bunkers are fairly easy to hit out of.
The staff is exceedingly friendly though having a refreshment cart out on the course seemed like a no-brainer but the lack of one was made up for by the good deal on beer at the clubhouse.
The quality of the course aside, what most golfers will talk about at Canterbury Woods is the difficulty. The layout is extremely hilly, with not a lot of flat lies in the fairways and even fewer flat holes in general. Downhill par 3s, uphill par 4s, over-hill par 5, this course has elevation changes in spades, so make sure you bring the slope setting on your range finder. The course does offer free yardage books so if you haven’t played there before I recommend taking advantage of them.
If you’ve only got time to play one course in New Hampshire and have less than $50 to spend, this is your place!
Great course with easy-to-fix problems
Course has beautiful layout, is challenging for best players but with friendly tees for shorter hitters, and is gorgeous particularly during the fall. Greens are well maintained and difficult. Problems exist occasionally with pace of play...more aggressive ranger would help. Many fairways are on a slant, making straight drives really important. I am 18 handicap and enjoy the course every time I play it.
First but not the last
First time to play this course and it was great. Pace of play was slow as the four players in front of us were constantly in the woods. The course if very hilly but not impossible. Would definitely go back there.
