One of the top 5 public courses in Maryland
I play about 20 different course in MD every year, and this one remains right near the top. Conditions may the best of anywhere. The sand trap are in fantastic shape, groomed, with real sand, and well raked. I single that out because very few course in MD can say that, but the rest of the course is just as nice. Green were quick but fair. The layout is incredible, from the intimidating but very fair tee shot on #1, to the scenic and fun par 5 finishing hole. If I had to plan one course every week in MD, this would be the one. You need every club in the bag, and it's so beautiful..
Great experience
If I’m ever in the area again, I will definitely play again. Course was challenging and beautiful. Really impressed.
Great course for the deal on Golf Now
This is a great course for $55. It is not an $85 course in my opinion.
Pros - The layout is great, and the course itself is in great shape.
Cons - pin placement today was very funky and unorthodox (as in some pins where on slanted/slopes hill), and this is the second time in a row our cart died on us.
My once a year loop at Mountain Branch
Over an hour drive is the only reason not to play this course when you can . I always enjoy playing here because it gives you everything you need, want or could possibly be looking for in a corse.
We do have to start at the beginning. We checked in an hour early to be unfortunately told they have no range balls today.. After over an hour in the car, we had to kill another hour without any warming up . They do have a very , VERY large, multi level, undulating putting green to play around on. But no chipping at the putting green made for a long wait.
I’m sorry for not getting the starters name, but I watched him give clear instructions and the fact the the flags on holes 9, 11 and 18 were all flags and asked everyone to please respect our flag on this unfortunate anniversary.
The course is as I expected. 90% tee to green . A couple tee boxes ( I played the whites at just over 6100. 18 Hdcp. Shot 41-45 ) were below standards, as were a few areas in few fairways were rough around the edges, but I mean a few. I did get in 1 bunker today that looked sandy, but was quite firm underneath. I did notice a couple bunkers that looked like raked dirt. The greens here are fairly large with not to may flat putts on any green. They did roll similar to the putting green.
I understand prices are going up for everything. Thank you Golfnow for offering me and my friends to enjoy playing Mountain Branch for any discount you offer. Every dollar counts. Already looking forward to next year!!
Just a Great Layout!
Mountain Branch is a hidden gem. It's almost an hour drive for me and this course doesn't usually come to mind when I'm thinking about where to play on the weekend, but it should. The course is in excellent condition--the fairways are green and lush, and the greens are sneaky fast with a lot of undulations and subtle breaks. They are certainly fair though. And, the rough is thick, lush and brutal, so often added another stroke. The tee boxes could use some TLC and the bunkers need to have more sand put in them. Pace of play on a Saturday morning was very good--we played in 4 hrs. 10 mins. I absolutely love the layout of this course--there is so much variety of holes, environmental areas, and obstacles that you have to pay attention. You can't grip-and-rip it on all these holes, but rather need to be mindful about where you hit the ball. Otherwise, you'll be in for a long round. They have four (4) tee boxes and three (3) combination tees that are rated. There is a yardage for everyone--choose the correct one for your game and enjoy the round. Be careful for the #18 finishing hole, though. It will eat you alive with environmental running the length on both sides of the hole and across the hole near the middle of the hole. A great course with enough challenge to hold your attention.
First Impressions at Mountain Branch Golf Course
I played in Mountain Branch Golf Course for the first time on Labor Day. This is the only public golf course in Harford county I haven’t played. The reason - this course is expensive and people say it’s hard to play. I decided to wait until my skills got sharper. I still went in with low expectations and brought in a lot of balls to waste. I parred the first 2 holes which were a par 4 and 5 even though my drives were bad. The strangers I played with kept playing the back tees but they kept losing balls and waste so much time looking for them. My hybrids were able to find the greens. Overall I had a glorious time and played well. My mistake were bad chipping and putting. The greens and areas around the greens were tough. The course looks intimidating with many hazards but I was able to hit straight most of time with my hybrid clubs. I only lost 3 balls. Like all the other courses when it’s busy the back 9 gets backed up. I still had a great time playing plus the weather was super comfortable to enjoy. Nice course!
Love the course, but…
This is one of my favorites. But today was frustrating. Not only did we wait for 10 minutes on the tee box on every hole from #2 - #12, but on #11 our cart started to crap out. I called the pro shop. THREE TIMES before someone finally came out, 50 minutes and 4 holes later. The cart was fully dead by the time the new one arrived. We drove a nearly dead cart slowly across 4 holes. No clue why it took three calls to finally get someone to come out. Otherwise, course condition is very good, though I’m wondering why they won’t put new sand in the traps. It was a very frustrating day. But again, it’s such a nice lay out.
1st time this year...
Course was in great shape. Pace was great. 4 hour round. Shot my new low here today... 89...
Excellent shape
It always rains on this course! Lol. The course is in its best shape ever. Enjoyed it.
