A TRUE BUCKET LIST COURSE
Very nice resort and golf course. We hadn't played here since they changed the routing of four holes. That change worked out very well. The front nine is a nice layout but the back nine is exceptional. Don't miss a chance to play this gem.
Diamond in the Rough
What a treat it was to play this course. This course is a gotta be the top 1 or 2 public course in Iowa. The course was in amazing shape especially with all the rain they have had lately. Greens were in perfect shape, soft but fast. Fairways were great and the rough was thick. Front nice is really nice layout couple blind tee shots. Once you get to the back it is really a treat. Par 11th 500 yards and goes straight UP HILL. From there on its up and downhill with some great views. Each side has a drive able par 4 risk reward style. I really enjoy that in a course. I was very impressed with everything expect for the entrance, things are a bit confusing and the pro shop is hidden. Beside that this place is top notch. Definitely a must play,.
GREAT PLACE TO STAY AND PLAY
The staff at the entire complex was great!! We spent the week-end and had a great time at the course and casino.
Built to be tournament tough
The day I arrived at the RIverside Casino & Golf Resort, there were dozens of college golfers finishing their day on Blue Top Ridge. Many trudged off the course looking spent. Walking 36 holes on such a hilly course that plays super challenging wears out even the youngest and strongest golfers. Blue Top Ridge, located roughly 15 minutes south of Iowa City and the University of Iowa, was built to be tournament-tough. It's got big bones with ample space for corporate hospitality tents and parking. Don't be surprised if you see it hosting a tournament on TV someday. The front nine is solid, but it's the back nine that really shines, climbing to high ridges in several spots. No par comes easy, especially on the longest hole in Iowa, the 665-yard 16th.
Course in poor shape
Course was in very poor shape. Most of the holes looked as if the hole locations haven't been moved in over a week. A ton of cleat marks to deal with on every putt. Plus the bunkers were the worst I've seen bunkers in a long time. Most of them had no sand and was like hitting off a hard pan.
I would not recommend playing this course to anyone the remainder of 2014.
One of the best in Iowa
One of my favorite courses in Iowa. I've played here probably 20 times and never had a bad experience.
With big and complex greens, keeping the ball on the same tier as the hole is important with approach shots. The fairways are friendly, but the length and wind still makes it challenging.
There are five sets of tees. Both nines are fantastic, but the front is certainly easier. The back nine is more entertaining, and you'll enjoy some great views. With twilight rate and seeing the sunset on the back, it's really a great scene.
The practice facility is the best I've seen in the state. I walked this course some in college, and it is a beatdown to say the least. Unless you're in fantastic shape and are a great player, get a cart. The only complaint I've ever had is the GPS system in the carts sometimes don't work. But there are a ton of yardages to front, middle and back of the green in the fairway, and it's hard to nitpick that. The staff in all areas is very professional and helpful.
The flooding in 2008 caused a few of the holes on the front to be redone, which is unfortunate since they were outstanding. However, the new ones are great too.
I've played most (not all) of the top courses in Eastern and Central Iowa. Blue Top Ridge is in my top three. Bringing a group and going to the casino after is also a great idea.
Always a pleasure, beautiful course in nice condition
Challenging well conditioned course with lots of creative shot opportunities. Big course depending on which tee markers, but lots of variety with no two holes or shots the same.
Bring the bug spray, but go play it
Been a few years since I'd been to Blue Top. Fantastic shape, and the greens are great. Great practice facility. I got a hot deals time ($40 rather than $80) and had the first tee time so I zipped around, and walked it. I don't think they get a lot of walkers, but aside from two holes it is very walkable.
The one draw back, and it was years ago, the bugs are thick. Just be prepared and buy some spray in the proshop because they don't sell it on the beer cart (they should cause they'd make money)
Great layout
Awesome, challenging layout. Course was in fantastic condition, I drove an hour to play the course and would do it again! Worth the trip
Rained out, but great customer service
Ours was a classic day of three guys desperate to play golf. We drove two hours in the morning to the nicest course in Iowa for a planned all-day-play (it was a father's day present from our wives). We got rained out and drove to two other courses hoping to find one that wasn't in the path of this massive thunderstorm. Anyway, we ended up back home, Iowa City and jumped at a chance that the storm would miss Riverside. We bought the Golf Now tee time and cruised to Blue Top. We flew through nine holes before our hubris caught up to us and the thunderstorm returned. The manager in the clubhouse gave us each a gift card for the full amount payed on Golf Now. We got in some golf and didn't end up paying for it. It was great consolation for what was supposed to be an epic day of golf!
happy fathers day
course in great condition. It is not a regular resort course, for an average golfer. heavy fescue of fairway hard to find ball and a lot of blind shots. thank you golfnow.com for the deal, took the sting out of a tough day!!!
Bugs,Bugs,Bugs!!!
The golf course was great but the bugs were extremely terrible. We had so many insects flying around our faces and in our ears and nose that it made it hard to concentrate on your shot or to really even have fun.
Excellent Course
Great course, great value. Very challenging from the tips. Well-kept course, excellent layout.
