Good course for a non-golfer
Customer satisfaction isn't the focus of the staff. The first time I visited the place it was decent, but today it was poor. I was in the wrong for letting my caddie hit a few holes, but the staff member charged him full price. I paid for 18 holes, but only played 9 thinking that the staff member would show a little mercy on the caddie and I. No such luck. He was non-negotiable and complained that he doesn't make money on golfnow.com tee times that are set up. He said that he would've been more willing to help us out had we purchased the tee time through Sunset directly. So much for trying to keep the customer coming back. Only go to Sunset if you purchase a tee time through golfnow.com. It's not worth it otherwise.
Easy to Drive, Difficult Approach
Very open fairways, but nearly each green is guarded by a hazard, sand trap or multi-tiered greens.
Course in OK shape, but lots of clover. 18 hole play means you play the 9 hole course twice.
Great course for me since I'm just learning the game.
Good course for me since I'm just learning the game.
So many things wrong
Most important part is the staff is extremely friendly...what kills the fun of this course is the conditions, customers and surrounding area.
The conditions are rough at best, they try...but the fairway is hard as a rock and patchy at best. Don't get me wrong the roll you get will make you feel like you could win a long drive competition...but good luck trying to dial in your distance here.
The patrons are awful...I will leave it at that...this is the only course I can say I've ever been to where your ball will "disappear" in the fairway.
Now the surrounding area...if you like listening to a drag race in your backswing this is the place to be!
Seriously bums me out because I like the staff, they are great...but I can't possibly come back to this course if it remains in this condition
Never again.
Greens were so quick and wouldnt hold, so we found ourselves aiming for the very front of the green by the 3rd hole. Fairways are non existent and didnt seem to be mowed in quite awhile. The grass was dead but clovers and dandelions remained.
Staff seemed like it was more trouble than it was worth to attend to us. This course will lure you in with cheap rates. You're better off spending ten dollars more and playing a muni.
Easy going Sunday afternoon
The course isn't in the best condition and things get a little backed up when playing 18 on a 9 hole course. Good course for beginners to play or for a cheap easy after noon.
Poor conditions. Rude staff
Very poor condititons. poor layout. Rude staff unless you're drinking at bar.
Decent course, great price.
I'm not a super experienced golfer so this course was great for me.
No Frills, easy to play, where you go to learn to play!
I'll say this, it's cheap and therefore the course cannot be maintained with lush fairways and greens. You can pretty much hit the ball anywhere in bounds and have the same type of lie on or off the fairway. So unless you find all the hazards you should have a good time just rolling the ball up on the greens. The staff is friendly and down to earth. You can wear just about anything on course, which is nice when you just want to play in a tee and jeans. I've finished 18 holes in under 2 1/2 hours routinely so it's not a place that requires a lot of course management, just straight shots.
Paid $10 and wasn't worth that !!
We try new courses to us all the time just to go somewhere new, this course is run down and wasn't even worth the $10 we paid on special to play, we actually left after third hole because the play was so slow and the course was in such bad condition.
Great layout, moderate value
This was my third time playing Sunset since I started up playing again 2 months ago. This is a full size par 35 9-hole course unlike most other par 3 courses in the area that only have 1 or 2 par 4s and the rest par 3s. It has water that is very much in play and bunkers around the green that are generally easy to avoid. I would say it is a little on the difficult side for a beginner but a great afternoon course nonetheless.
I teed off with a group of 2 that also booked through GolfNow. However, after the 1st hole, the clubhouse guy met us on the 2nd tee and had me come back and retee off because he was not happy with my pace. Our threesome finished on the 1st green as the group in front was walking off the 2nd tee box, so while I disagreed with that I didn't argue about restarting.
After I restarted with a second single, from the 2nd fairway to the end of 9 holes we had to wait on every shot. It took 2 1/2 hrs for 9 holes. Additionally, the group behind us starting yelling and cussing at the group in front of us complaining about their pace. I called the clubhouse and they said there was no one available to resolve it. The fairways and greens are not as kept up as a municipal course but definitely not unplayable by any means.
So it was ok to say something to me who got a discounted round but conveniently no one was available for people who paid full price and almost were in a fight for the majority of the round. This is the reason I rated the course as I did. The price was definitely a great deal for a Sunday afternoon despite all of this. The other times I had played here were slightly more off peak times where I was able to play a little slower since I am not accurate and have a better time. I would play Sunset again, but I'll wait for twilight times the next time when it's not as busy.
A+++ great learning course
This is great course to break off the rust. I hadn't played for a few months and I this was a perfect course to ease back in. I will definitely play again. The price is right and only about ten minutes from downtown it is super convenient.
Very Good 9 Hole Course
The course is a great value on golfnow when you can the 18 hole deal.for usually $10 with a cart. The course is maintained and challenging. It's a course for straight hitters. The fairways and a couple of par 3s are extremely narrow. There are a couple of tricky holes with water also. Staff is family owned and very nice. Great course for beginners and hackers.
