Greens are non existent
So I know we had a freeze in February but this was just sad. There literally was no grass on multiple greens. They had recently been sanded but not aerated so it was sand on top of wet dirt. The bunkers were not raked or were wet from the over watering of the course. Usually play here twice a month or so but I think it's time to move on, which is sad because it is actually a fun course to.play. They really need to find a good greenskeeper and get it back into playing shape
Come on Man
Recommend not going on Tuesdays. Evidently it is Senior Day and they allow 5 people to play for a group. If you are a twosome, behind a five-some, good luck playing through.
The “greens” are not greens, they are browns.
Hitting out of the fairway requires goats to find your ball.
There is only one restroom on the course, watch out if you try to go to the woods to relieve yourself around hole 16. They have binoculars and someone will approach you to remind you where the bathroom is.
The staff is not very hospitable and there is no amenities.
Also, if you reserve a Veteran tee time, make sure you show your ID before paying because the staff will not allow a refund for the overpayment. A $30 tab ended up being $84.00. They also over charged us being that the staff member made me pay after my partner already paid for both us. Absolutely ridiculous. They need better management.
What a green?
This place was used to be good for the beginners. The green and fairway were not bad for the price, but I found the green unplayable yesterday.
Is it under construction?
I thought I play in the dessert.
Prairie Golf
I took a chance with a $30 fee and drove 35 miles to play this course on the side of a freeway in TX. The course is not being maintained with barely any difference between fairway and rough turf. Basically it’s a bunch of weeds with some grass in between. The greens were a mix of paint, sand and fertilizer. That being said, I played in 2.5 hrs and saw about 6 others on the course. I did see some newer homes being built in the unaffiliated community surrounding the course. Maybe the new residents will claim the course and revitalize it. The bones are there, it just needs a proper manager team.
If you're used to greens that have grass.. don't come here
I played this course due to not booking a tee time early enough for the weekend in Houston. In all honestly I do not know how there can be good reviews for this course as it was by far the worst course conditions I've ever seen.
The greens were made almost entirely of sand with little spots of grass on them all of which rolled at completely different speeds. The fairways were just dirt with some weeds on them. The bunkers had less sand than the greens, and there wasn't a level surface to be seen on any of the tee boxes.
The pace of play was terrible, having to wait 10 minutes of some holes. There was a course ranger but they didn't seem to do anything about the pace. The driving range was OK but the balls were old enough to have seen the first moon landing.
One positive was the staff were friendly and helpful, which is the only reason I can offer an extra star in my rating.
I understand that this isn't a city course with lots of people paying good money to play but unfortunately it is still not worth $50.
Greenness course
It's kind of pointless to sand the greens when there is no or very little grass on them. The course as it stands today is a 18 hole driving range.
Dirt cheap!!!
I really didn't know "dirt cheap" green tee meant that you would be playing off of DIRT, literally. I dont' think I've played a course as worse that this one. This was our first time playing this course and will be our last time as well. The course wasn't very busy so there was no way it should of taken us 4 hrs to play. Two groups in front of us quit, one after 9 and the other after 14 and we caught the 2some who slowed all of us down for the last 3 holes. They just simply didn't not care that they were holding us up. One final note......and this relates to any business....the first thing I noticed was that the bathroom looked and smelled like crap so I automatically knew that I needed to lower my expectations. Legendary Oaks....DO BETTER
Favorite Course
Course is starting to come around, just need some warm sunny days. Greens have not came in yet so it was like putting on bumpy concrete, but that is to be expected. Always friendly staff and a fun golf outing overall.
William Tomblin
This course is not maintained well - sand bunkers are not playable- they are hard packed clay — the greens are better than last year since the course is trying to get rid of the pollenta sprigs - the course layout is great with many challenges but the fairways are missing grass in too many spots - fairways are better in summer- the price is acceptable for the conditions
Overpriced and poorly maintained.
I've been playing this course for over 10 years. It's always been in pretty rough shape. The greens are terrible, mostly just sand and mold, but the layout is great. It's not bad to play for $15-25 but now they charge up to $50 to play on the weekend which is absolutely ridiculous considering the condition of the course and the lacking amenities. All the restrooms are disgusting and never cleaned and there's only one out on the course.
Good Value
The course was ok. It was LONG. My playing partner described it as any backyard in the area with a golf course. Some of the greens were in rough shape. Bunkers were a mix between ponds with hard sand and what seemed like retail sand that had solidified in the rain. The bathrooms were like a haunted house. No lights, and pretty sure I wanted to toss my shoes after walking in. The course is LONG. Which means you can let the big dog eat, but it felt like a forever kind of quest. Overall difficulty was minimal compared to some other courses in the area. The golf carts really scoot. I only paid 30 dollars, which seemed very fair.
The course has a great layout and plenty of hazards to make a challenging and fun play
The main drawback is the upkeep - the bathrooms are filthy and not suitable for a woman to use - also the greens have different types of grass and are not maintained very well - my last complaint is that the sand bunkers are unplayable because they don’t drain and don’t have enough sand- they are closer to packed clay
Practice your accuracy
Great off-season course to go work on your accuracy. With a number of narrow fairways and built hazards off the fairway, hitting down the middle is key. The Par 5s are reachable in two (2), but only for the BOLD. Amenities were virtually non-existent but, hopefully the new management sees the potential for opening the Bar and Clubhouse for breakfast/lunch during the season. Greens were definitely in off-season shape (Poor).

So much potential….
Course has really gone downhill.
Pace of play not enforced.
Started playing here in the winter for the good value hot deals. With current conditions I do not think it’s worth more than a range bucket to be honest.
The greens are gone. They have laid sand on them but show no signs of life.
Rough
Tee boxes are terrible, fairway is non existent, greens are… not even sure how to describe them. I think a $20 round would feel more like a value here if you just want to hit some balls. Good luck finding any balls in the rough. Oh also, if you are lucky enough to actually be able to roll a putt in over the dirt mounds and spotted grass, there is sitting water at the bottom of the hole to soak your fingers.
We love hearing about our golfers' experiences, wisso. Please tell us more about what you enjoyed during your round. Thanks for choosing Legendary Oaks Golf Course!
