About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2017 after Hurricane Harvey.
One of the earliest courses in the Kingwood area, this shot-maker's course rolls through a dense forest along the north bank of the San Jacinto River and has long been one of the best golf values around Houston.
At Kingwood you have the chance to start off strong, with 8 of the first 9 holes being wide open, straight, and having minimal hazards. The most difficult hole on the front is the impressive, doglegging 360-yard No. 8, which curls around the lake and plays into a severely sloping, two-tiered green.
The more difficult back nine, which is longer and more narrow, starts off with a 527-yard par 5 that doglegs left at 225 yards off the tee. Play a cautious shot into the dogleg, as water is on the right side of the fairway and will catch booming drives.
The late 1990s ushereed in renovations that have improved the course significantly, including tee box improvements and a new irrigation system.

Good price, mediocre conditions
The fairways and greens were not in good condition, though there has been some rain recently. Overall an average experience, if you can get in for $15 like I did it's not a bad deal. Wouldn't pay the full price.
Played it after it rained.
It was very wet can't tell much about tboxes and fareways. Greens were super slow. I'll have to come back to this one when it's dry.
This course has great features but.......
Due to recent weather, course was cart path only. On the 10th hole we were hit with down pour. The fairways were saturated after that. Stopped playing at the 12th hole. I will play this course again, weather permitting. Don't forget your bug spray.
Decent 'value' course for North Houston residents
First off, dont make the drive here from Houston as there are much better options that are also affordable. However, if you are in the area give it a shot. In my few times there, I have found pace of play to be slow, lots of hackers, too many people booked at one time, slow/poor customer service. The course is in ok condition, it plays long and has a few challenging holes but nothing spectacular. Some of Houston's muni courses are just as good if not better.
Good deal for the money
We paid 15 dollars per tee time.it has good location and for the most part is in decent condition.
Good For Beginners
Course was actually easy for beginners to learn on. Nice greens. Fairways pretty straight with a few challenges. Need to better mark OB. Parking area and cart return fare could be a little friendlier. Overall for the money the course was good for the money spent to play.
Poor conditions, slow
Course was in pretty bad shape. Slow pace of play. Short holes- poorly laid out. House lined- very little space/tree buffer. Felt like I was playing in peoples backyard all day. Parking lot was next to driving range- I was worried about my windshield the whole time. I have never stopped a round early but I stopped after 9 because I couldn't take it.
Long par 5s
I liked the layout and the course played nicely. It was busy and a little slow. Interesting that the par 5 were out of reach in regulation for me and the par 3 were really long compared to my normal courses.
Slow
Cart path only was in affect as course was very soggy. Course was very backed up and extremely slow. Left after 9 holes. Maybe offer tee times more spread out if the cart path only rule is in affect?
Charged for Riders! $15/person
That's pretty much was the problem! 2 Riders plus what we paid on Golf Now.
Played yesterday November 9th
The course was in the best shape I have seen it, the grass was very green and the greens were in great shape. Had a great time this course is great for the price and there usually is not wait time between holes on the weekends
Decent Course
Enjoyed the course - only pity was people cutting in at the 10th Hole when we were finishing the 9th
Easy accessable holes
Love the course lay out. We have played there for years. Give it a try you will too
Nice
we really enjoyed all the trees and the fairways were nice and green and the greens were rolling really nicely.
new management needs attention
course has increased in pricing but the quality of play has gone down missing 150 markers, Sand bunkers never being touched, poor excuses from employment team on my courses so bad.
Good Value for the money
Course is OK, and a good value for the money. Paid $10.00 on a hot deal , probably would not pay more than that. Pace was a little slow, with people that where struggling in front of us.
poor course condition
Course condition was in poor condition. Fairways had not been cut for days and were as long as the ruffs. They only allowed us to play the back nine, and told us that it was because we purchased the "round throught Golf Now and you get what you pay for"...Never again, do yourself a favor and go play a round of Putt Putt....
Good time...
It's a great lay out , course is on good conditions and the staff it's always friendly
Great pace of play.
Can't beat it for the money
I'll play there at least once a week for that price. It costs that much to go to the range.
Good ole Kingwood Cove
A little warm out there, but that Houston in August. Had my son in for his Birthday and we didn't want to embarrass ourselves on a nice course or end up in a forced foursome. Course in good shape, needed a bit of water in places, but we had a blast. Finished in 3.5 hours after hitting 190 sots between the two us. Extremely nice pro there behind the counter. We'll definitely go back.
