course reviee
Tee boxes and fairways in very good shape. Looks like almost lost greens. Very spotty. Sure thdy will come out eventually. Still fun course go play.
The greens are shot
A shame the fairways and surrounding growth is very nice. The greens are unplayable.
Greens are a wreck
I like Sherrill Park and it looks good, BUT the greens look just sick.
Very disappointing
Greens in terrible and I mean terrible shape! I've played several other courses in the area that were exposed to the same winter and they are all fine. Not sure what happened here but I played a tournament in Ft.Worth recently that had what I thought were the worse greens I'd ever seen until I saw these which are just as bad! Seems like a couple of greens keepers may have been caught by surprise or just not paying attention. There's a couple other courses around here that offer better GolfNow deals than this and are in better shape by far. Just sayin.
Bad greens
Played Course 1 - The course layout is great, Tbox, fairwys, rough, all good, except the greens were awful. Maybe lost due to a freeze. maybe planning on redoing. Not sure, but they were like a beach, lots of sand, and bumps.
Good fairways
The course was a nice & open Greens need some work
Greens were ruined
This course was a lot of fun. I loved the layout and how challenging it was, but the greens were in terrible condition. Most of them only had 50% grass. The roll was anything but true. They may have been the worst greens I've ever played on. That being said, I would definitely come back if I know that the greens have been fixed.
Greens Ugh
This is the 1st time I have played here in about 10-12 years but thought the $41 to walk was reasonable until I got to the first green. Overall course has a good layout and can be very challenging from the tips. Nice length from the blue tees to make it enjoyable. The Green's are in horrid condition being blamed on winter kill. I would be ashamed to charge full rack considering how bad the greens were. Made a beautiful day really miserable.
Beautiful day ugly greens
I had always heard good things about Sherrill Park so it was an easy decision to book a tea time with Golfnow. Arriving at the course I was first struck at just how beautiful it was. Sherrill Park is beautifully maintained and groomed course plus the staff is more than friendly and ready to assist you. All in all everything was great until I hit the first green. At first look the problem was glaring obvious the greens hadn't had the same care as the rest of the course. My pitch up on to the green bounced 2 feet straight up kicking dust into the breeze. The green was mostly a dry dead mess, impossible to read and harder to putt. Saddly about 80% of the greens were dead aweful and the other 20% was at the least bearable. What a shame, look, I know that Sherrill Park isn't the newest kid on the block but all the work that has been put into the rest of the course is wasted when a player pitches on to a substandard green. I hope they get it sorted out quickly, I would love to give them another try.
Bare Green
About 15 greens out of 18 were practically bare and spots that had grass were not smooth. Fringe was in better condition than the green surface.
Needs time in 2014
The course overall was in pretty good shape, except the greens. The greens were in HORRIBLE shape. Balls were bouncing 6-10 times a putt, and that often led to some weird putting lines. Easily lost 3-5 strokes because of bouncing. The course needs a month or so before the greens come back into shape. Won't be playing here again until middle to late summer.
Bad greens
This course has a great layout. Pace of play was great on a Thursday afternoon. The only problem was that the greens seemed to have been destroyed by the late freeze and frost. The tee boxes, fairway and rough were all in great shape. The greens were aerated and sanded with patches of growth and death. This made putting and a good roll impossible. Not worth the money right now.
Greens in horrible shape
Have played both courses several times over the years. At one point this facility was a steal for the price, but repeatedly the greens will be treated and upon booking you are not told nor do they make any consideration on rate. We played last week and it was like putting on a beach. If the greens are in good shape a good place to play, but I suggest asking about greens prior to booking. To many options at similar price points in the metro area to have to deal with this at normal fees.
Only one flaw
The greens were in really bad shape. But to their credit, they noted that in their Golf Now coupon. Otherwise, the course was really outstanding. Very green, plush and good layout. Tees, fairways, hazards, bunkers, facilities were all in great shape. I'll try again when the greens have had time to mature.
The GREENS ARE HORRIBLE!
I've been playing at Sherrill for many years due to the proximity of my residence. I like the courses and find them very fun...BUT...
They can not get control of their greens. It's May 1st and the greens are in such bad shape, They have a problem with their water supply as it is contaminated and the greens will not grow properly. Waterview, Pecan Hollow, Firewheel, Watters Creek do not have this problem and have normal muni conditions.
The 2 courses need to be shut down have the greens completely redone. For as many people that play here and the money this place generates, the conditions of the greens are inexcusable.
shame
The fairways/tee boxes were in good shape, the greens were almost un-playable, very little grass on most greens, considering this is where most of your scoring comes from it was hard to play a good round, such a shame because i've played this course many times before and enjoyed it.
Course 1 easier than course 2
Broke 100 on this one, feel like I'm playing decent golf. Greens on course #1 are just fine, and this course has plenty challenges to make things interesting. 15mph winds can help with that. Water comes into play on a lot of holes and seemed to require more length than course 2, plus it has more par 5's. Nice tail wind helped get me a chance at reaching the 14 green in two. Cart girl was distinctly foreign and cute with a sezy little accent.
Enjoyed this course!
Once the greens come in, this will be an excellent course to play if you enjoy challenging courses. Choose your shots carefully!
Good old Sherrill Park.
Good consistent golf course. Not spectacular, but consistent. The staff takes themselves a little to seriously. The course was in good shape for March..
