Poor course
First & last time I will play this course! Every hole was on temporary greens when there was absolutely no reason for it, not particularly wet. Temporary greens were dreadful so this was not a true test of golf. Dog walkers all over the course so didn’t really enjoy the game!!
Decent for a municipal course
Pros
- good value for money
- short/medium length holes (good for casual/beginner golfers)
- free parking
- greens were in good condition (October)
Cons
- no real on site amenities
- no proper practice area
- dog walkers in and around fairways (very frustrating but happens on municipal. I hit one of few cracking tee shots on a par 3 and a dog ran off with my ball)
- lacking any features / a plain course
- not kept to the standards of a private course
All in all decent for £17.00. Enjoyed it and would return again in the future but won’t rush back.
I actually went over on my ankle playing today, due to a hole in the ground near the 10th green.
If you’re considering it and haven’t played it, it’s a decent course for the money.
Awkward pins
Well if your game is all about putting then this at the moment is your course the pins were all on a bad downslope and fast , the third was probably the worst , if you put your wedge on the green past the pin then you will end up back off the free no matter how hard you hit it , it will be back off the green but apart from the greens the course is a good test , if you haven’t played it before it’s one of the better council courses.
Great little course
Fairways not the shortest cut but good enough and is a great value, nicely matured municipal. No par 5s but is a good test. A few mature oak trees mean positioning is crucial on several holesa. Some of the greens can have wicked pin placings such as the 2 tier 3rd and the sloping 9th and 16th.
As this course is only ten minutes away from me I thought I would give it a try for the first time. Great course for someone who hasn’t played for a while or somebody looking for cheap day of golf, quiet clean for a public park and some great holes and very tricky greens!!
The down side to this place is the public waking across the course while playing and dogs running around, a few over hanging trees that are in the way of tee’s and needs a lot more work on the rough! But over always a great day and a decent course to play
Good course
Course was in good condition the only issue I have is that players are allowed on who share a set of clubs and this slows down the pace
Enjoyable
Course in fair condition, interesting layout with a few tricky holes especially for first time players. Greens in good condition for a busy municipal course. This course really wins on value for money if you can get a round below £12.
Great Municipal
Thoroughly enjoyed playing this municipal course, which is in fairly decent condition, plenty of challenging holes and a few blind tee shots.
Little worrying that the public walk across the course given the blind shots.
Overall a good course and excellent value for money, would certainly recommend.
Municipal course
Cannock Park is a very good golf course for the money that you pay. The holes are very varied(although there are no Par 5’s) and the general condition is good.
The main drawbacks are that the greens are rather slow and you have to keep an eye out for general public walking around the course and cross crossing fairways.
Good for beginners
I live about a 10 minute drive from this course is geographically it’s great for me. I wasn’t expecting Augusta but it was half decent.
Pros
- economically priced
- decent greens
- challenging holes
- staff were reasonably friendly
- good parking
- tesco nearby for refreshments
Cons
- Perhaps I’m not the most observant of folk but the layout and general signposting for next tee location is in my opinion, very poor.
- I understand this is a Muncipal course but I played 18 holes today and had 1) a small child run onto the green, pick up my ball and run off. 2) dog walkers walking straight up the fairway 3) general public walking along fairways/generally not being very courteous
All that said, for the price, and distance from where I live, I would return, but only for those reasons.
- people trying their luck at a free game and interrupting yours
