A challenging, but pleasant 18.
Due to the excessive rain all courses have had recently, and another downpour the night before. Made this 18 a bit muddy. For anyone that doesn’t know CMGC, it has three 9 hole courses. In my opinion Deers being the most difficult, then Badgers followed by Foxes. With three courses, you don’t get cueing!!! I played Badgers & Foxes, Badgers has a par 3, said to be the most attractive in Shropshire. It is!
Staff in the pro shop always helpful, even the green keepers will stop and have a natter.
Then hole 19, provides good service and nourishment.
Just give it a while to let the course dry out a bit.
Attractive Parkland Course.
A nicely laid out course in beautiful surroundings. The recent incursion of Storm Babet meant that only 9 holes were playable. These were very enjoyable. Will return to play again in drier times.
Return Visit
Would certainly recommend playing Cleobury.
The course is in really good condition and is always a fair challenge for all players.
The staff in the pro shop a clubhouse are always welcoming.
Greens in excellent condition
The course is looking really good at the moment and a most enjoyable experience to play.
You will always receive a friendly welcome at Cleobury and made to feel welcome by all.
Should have been warned
I don’t like to leave bad reviews but I feel so disappointed with my visit I think it should be brought to the club’s attention.
Two of us visited the course on April 3rd 2023 booked through Golf Now. We paid the full green fee so it was not a reduced price
We played Foxes Run for the first nine and Badgers set for the back nine.
The first warning sign was the first tee was off a mat many more holes were also mats.
The fairways were very wet and muddy so the grass had not been cut I would say for several days.
On reaching the green we found they had been hollow tined so covered in 1cm holes. While playing the first the green keepers covered the second green in sand and then continued to cover the others during our round.
Many areas around greens were also water logged.
When we arrived at the pro-shop no mention was made of conditions.
I understand courses need work I also understand you cannot control the weather. However when the course is in this condition the club should either:
Reduce green fees
Remove the course from Golf Now until maintenance is finished.
Put warnings about conditions so it’s then up to you if you want to play.
On the upside the weather was excellent and the course very quiet, probably for good reason. Hence I gave two stars not one.
Great course
Played fox and badger great course greens in good condition grass a bit long on fairways but we enjoyed the round
Enjoyable tricky course
Played on a very cold day everything was frozen but in great shape. Friendly welcome, interesting course with some nice shots over water. Definitely be back
Middle of the road.
Overall our experience at Cleobury was okay. The weather probably made our round harder however as beginners we were wedged in between a seniors competition. I take responsibility for not staying on the notes that we were beginners but after talking to the the players behind us , they agreed that there was a huge miscalculation from our placement on the Tee Sheet. We let one group pass and I went into the Pro Shop before we played the back nine as we didn’t feel it would be right to slow the other golfers behind us. The staff were very friendly and said to play the third nine that was free at the time.
For Thirty pounds , The course was not horrible but the conditions of the fairway puzzled us. We found the fairway was a little overgrown compared to other courses we have played at. The layout was confusing for us as we got lost on the second hole (foxes run) and walked to the flag instead of the tee box and therefore let a group through. The golfers behind we’re understanding and said again it wasn’t our fault. At this stage of of golfing experience it’s about learning and enjoying the game and last week I would say was our least favorite day we have golfed.
When you compare the price of this club too an Ombersly , it’s cheaper however the quality and premium you get there felt a lot more than £8 pounds.
Only issue is that I had 3 balls stolen from the middle of the fairway by crows which was annoying!!!!
fox and deer
really enjoyed the course fox greens had been spiked so made 1st 9 difficult but deer played really well. bunkers a bit hard but had a great time. food after was amazing and a great price..
Good Value
Good course with enough shape to keep the wide range of abilities and hitting distances in our four ball thinking. It's all maintained well and the food and drink in the club house is good. We visited as change of scenery from our usual club and drove 50 mins, for the price point it was really worth it.
