Went on the website, said ‘course open’ so booked a tee time, weather had been fine and no frost for a few days so presumed their own website was correct.
When I arrived to sign on, was told I’d been paired with a three ball which was fair enough but that one hole was closed and EVERY other hole was on a temporary green. Was assured the temps were good as they’d had them on since November (why not state this on the website?) but when playing the temps were horrendous, full of mud, barely any grass and not worth playing on.
Temp winter tees are a state was well, difficult to play from or get a good stance.
I can’t understand how it was £20 for 17 holes, all of which weren’t worth putting on, we just played up to the ‘green’ and picked up, if I’d have known I’d have gone somewhere else or not bothered.
Amazing condy
The course was in amazing condition after days of rain. Although on winter greens, the course still gives real value for money
Crompton and Royton
A great course some easier holes on the whole the course has something for all abilities
Great course
Played here for the first time and really enjoyed it. Some good holes on the course in great condition too and really friendly on the course not one person I saw didn't not wave or say morning will definitely be back to play this lovely course
14 holes
Splendid course - shame 4 holes were closed ( members were allowed to play 17 and 18 - we weren’t - bit odd that.
Food was amazing - and staff were friendly.
I jokingly call it Royal Crompton as many members do think the course is world class😂
It ain’t - but it is a good challenge and a lovely setting
Nice conditions and a friendly welcome
Good knock that we both enjoyed, thought a few holes closed due to poor conditions. Would have benefited from knowing this in advance before booking. Can't fault the golf course, with the greens that were l very good and no real boginess experienced anywhere.
Lady in the pro shop was very helpful and friendly as was a member we spoke to..
Would return without hesitancy
Hidden gem
Who’d have thought that in the middle of a built up area of terraced houses and cobbled streets there would be this oasis. I must admit I didn’t expect anything like this. I know it’s a cliche but what a hidden gem and I do mean hidden. We paid £26 each and it was well worth it. The pro shop was a little sparse, we didn’t drink at the bar but the staff and local people were nice. The course was in immaculate condition, the whether was perfect. A beautiful golf course with a very picturesque views of the Pennines. I live in Warrington, my friends live in Burnley, so we always meet in the middle (normally around Preston or North Manchester) so this was was perfect position for both of us. This was one of the best. I will most definitely play this course again.
Just the pace of play high handicappers thinking there Pros.
Solid course well worth playing
Overall this was a decent golf course, the greens were in really good condition given the recent wet weather, several very quirky holes that offered choice on how to play them and a couple of very picturesque par 3s.
The main downside was having to tee off from the temp/ winter tee box which shortened several holes by a decent margin and whilst it wouldn't have changed our decision to play it would have been good to be aware of before booking.
The overall course map was a little disjointed and sometimes it didnt feel like a natural flow to the round but this is a minor criticism.
Didnt get to use the facilities beyond collecting a scorecard from the pro shop but the staff were friendly as were the few members we met on course
Considering the rain we have had the course was in excellent condition. I liked that mats were only in use on certain holes which was clearly marked. All greens in great condition. Will definitely be playing again soon.
Quality course
First time playing this course as a 19 HC. Played this the day after heavy rain all day and the course was in great shape. All green keepers were out working hard. Green had recently had work done on them for drainage, would definitely recommend and play again
