Excellent
Really enjoyed playing
The course was in great condition
Some lovely holes and one or two were a great test
Slow play at Darlington
Course was in average condition for our round - greens were very inconsistent with some very slow and others running at medium pace - intermediate rough hadn't been cut recently which made locating and hitting balls harder than it should be. Back nine in better condition and more fun to play than front nine. Pace of play was poor - we caught up with a 4 ball that teed off 40 minutes ahead of us by the time we reached the 3rd hole - they eventually let the group in front of us play through but we weren't waived through and had to pace ourselves for the remainder of the round - 15 minutes to put and get off the green is ridiculous - the club needs to address slow play, course maintenance issues and reduce the green fee if they want to attract more visitors.
Great Course
Tee off time set for 4.10pm. Pro was conducting junior coaching at the time so pro shop was closed. Due to this we were unable to find a scorecard (until 12th hole where we found one on the floor a generous golfer left behind). Other than this the course itself was absolutely beautiful with some stunning holes which test your course management and are easily navigated. 100% recommended to other golfers
Fully enjoyed round
Was a good test a nice range of holes found my good shots were rewarded
Nostalgia
Played this course many yeas ago when I was fortuntate to have won a work organised tournament that day and so, now in my later years, decided to re-live those memories, (if not my score !). The staff and members were very helpful, welcoming and friendly.
For this time of year the course was in excellent condition mainly due to the obvious care and attention afforded to it by the green staff and members. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and will certainly visit again myself some day.
Winter greens
Unknown to us the first 9 holes were on winter greens which were in poor condition. The back nine holes on normal greens and were very good. Played off mats on majority of tees, also mats used on the fairways when within 50 to 150 yards to the greens.
Excellent course in excellent condition
This is the first time I’ve played Darlington Golf Course and will definitely be playing it again soon. Greens were pristine and running well. Course is forgiving for a high handicapper like me. To be honest, I couldn’t fault it from start to finish. Hospitality in pro shop and the bar was second to none. Would highly recommend.
A grand day out
I last played this course more than 20 years ago but couldn’t have picked a better day for my return. Sun shining, light breeze, and though the course was dry, preferred lies were the order of the day. My two companions had never played the course before but both came away impressed and up for a return visit in the very near future. Winter tees were still in use though the winter greens were no longer in play. The course offers a variety of challenges for all levels of ability and was remarkably well presented given the time of year and it’s location in the far north of England. Time pressures meant we were unable to visit the clubhouse but all in all a grand day out.
Great Course
Great and well maintained course with very friendly staff, will definitely play here again.
A hidden gem
A great course, unfortunately on the day we played, there was some serious course maintenance and tree felling going on, do we had to play a couple of temporary greens and the par 3's we had to tee off mats. But this didn't detract from the excellent day we had.we will definitely be returning to this course again.
