Waterlogged still
Played again for 3rd time in last 2 months. Played Styrrup yesterday , course in excellent condition Appreciate that weather conditions have been affecting all courses, but I guess drainage is a massive problem here at The Grange , I Lost another 5 balls today plugged in fairway, they have not or possibly cannot be cut in these conditions.
I saw a post on Facebook showing the driveway leading to the course has been Tarmacced....but no it has been patched up ..it is .better, no potholes as such but still poor condition.
I considered joining this year as the layout is goodand the course is local , but I will look elsewhere Sorry for bad review but honest.
Criminal 🏌🏿♀️
It's criminal what's the current management have done to this once outstanding test of golf. A beautiful almost natural layout destroyed by the greed of the people who run this. Now unrecognisable because of the lack of maintenance, and general poor housekeeping.
Think the local council should reaquire this assett and remove the lease given to these amateurs.
Absolute disgrace what the leaseholders have done to this once local treasure.
Grange Park
Course layout is a championship one, but is in disrepair and needs some money spending on it. Such a shame I bet this was a lovely course in its day.
Such a shame….. 😞
This place has downhill massively.
It’s a tough course, very undulating and can be enjoyable with some challenging holes. But…… we booked on (end of Sept) and was told it’s £15 for the rest of the year, which is really cheap let’s face it.
The shop doesn’t sell anything at all now, it used to sell almost everything and now you’ll struggle to buy a tee. The score cards were a paper photocopy. Used to have a lovely practice putting green, now it’s a poor astroturf area. Practice field is also no more.
Even in September the course was terrible, fairways barely cut and if you end up in the rough you’ll struggle to find your ball, it’s that rough!
Tee boxes a mess and greens not that much better.
It used to be a gem of a course but is being neglected. I won’t be going back and I’d avoid it if if I were you.
Value for money
Challenging course but needed looking after more,
If you was off the short stuff you were in trouble,
Overall it was ok
Course Conditions shocking
Played this course on a Saturday afternoon, turned up only a handful of cars in the car park. Walked into clubhouse having paid online, was told we could tee off straight away as no one else was on the course. Teed off on a uneven tee box, straight drive over a hill to a very uncut fairway, this was the same all round. If a wayward tee shot left the fairway then the ball could not be found in ankle to knee length rough. No semi rough just deep rough. Only saw one other group on the course all round. Would not recommend this course to anyone worst golf course conditions I have ever played. It's a pity because grange park used to be a very good track. Will not be going back.
What a tragedy, such a great layout
I have played this course every now and again over 30 years of playing golf, it used to be right up with the best, but now its a very sad sight. You can tell as you drive in that maintenance is an issue, not just the road but the grass cutting with inferior machines is obvious and in view as you drive down the entrance road. The clubhouse is a dimly lit, almost closed down old building and scorecards are badly photocopied pieces of paper. But, get on the course and the layout is absolutely brilliant, yes the fairways are long grass and covered in cuttings, yes the greens are absolutely rubbish and rock hard and quick. But you can see this layout and the maturity of the course is just so good, if only someone could buy it and spend a few million on it (unlikely). If you can forget the terrible greens and avoid the long rough and see through the maintenance issues, there is a wonderful course underneath all the rubbish. I know some people are going to slate it, but at 20 quid I would play this course again in the hope that they had managed to get it back to something decent. The fact there is a burnt out mowing machine beside the tee on one hole shows what they are up against with vandalism rife and an obvious lack of funding. I doubt this course will ever make it back to being A1 condition so anyone playing there will have to plod round teary eyed thinking how good this course could have been. Here is hoping they can gain some investment and then I will be straight back to play it and pay whatever you want.
Don't listen to the bad reviews
First time playing here and after reading the reviews I thought it would be horrible
I had first tee time of the day, and the weather was terrible but it played well.
Yes the rough is tall and thick and any shot other than down the fairway will be difficult to find.
Greens were fast and well maintained, odd patch here and there
Fairways were soft.
My only complaint was seeing a few Stella cans and odd bit of rubbish lying around but that was only when ball went into boundary
Go play and enjoy
Very poor condition would not play again
From arriving at the course and driving down to very poorly maintained road and into a desolate car park it’s wasn’t looking great and unfortunately it didn’t get much better.
Staff on the booking in desk appeared as if they couldn’t care less that’s putting it politely (Something that lady on the desk wasn’t). The course which quite clearly has so much potential set up with lovely views has quite clearly been neglected with a clear lack of care, at times I might as well have been playing in the local farmers field, there were long uncut patches of grass on the fairways, paths were neglected and overgrown (that’s where you could even find a pathway). As for the greens I couldn’t say I played any green up to scratch with most of them looking like you were playing on a car park.
I accept £18 isn’t much to pay but would most certainly not Recommend playing this course, the only positive was there was no one else playing on the course so the pace of play was fantastic however not enjoyable. So many better courses near by.
Hopefully someone spends some time and effort to try and get this course to what it should be. It’s set in a lovely parkland and should be so much better. Possible one of the worst courses I have played
Not as bad as expected
After reading a few reviews was not going to visit, but glad I did.
Not an easy course and yes bad shots are punished in the rough, but keep in on the fairway and all is good.
Agree bunkers need a little work and some of the greens look patchy but most roll straight and true.
Bring your A game and you'll be rewarded.
I left a few shots, and balls out there so Will be back
Been a tough Winter
I play this course every week, been a hard slog over the last few months
Been reading some very negative reviews on here, some very harsh reviews
The Grange is a very challenging course, I am an average golfer and playing this course has made me a better golfer.
I have complained, who hasn't, but the ground staff at the Grange have worked miracles over the last 2 months
The fairways are back, first cut, second cut, if you lose your ball now it is a bad shot, get over it
The greens are recovering, again hard work by the ground staff
The bunkers are well positioned, it was designed well by a renowned architect, and yes some do need repair, but you can get out of them.
It is not an easy course to play, but golf is not an easy game to master, but it is a great way to spend a few hours and at 72 years old, my playing partner is 78, it keeps us in good health walking up the challenging fairways at the Grange
So I would say to all the 1 star wonders, come back with your clubs, try it again, if you complain now then the Grange is just not for you, but don't dismiss it on here again until you have
Grange Park
Seems neglected. Tees poor, Greens very patchy and inconsistent. Rough is extremely rough and needs cutting back. All that said, the Fairways were in good condition.
Managed to get a hot deal, although even at that price it didn’t represent good value for money. We would have been extremely unhappy if we’d been charged full price.
Needs a lot on work to get its potential.
Fair for money
Not well maintained course.the greens are like moon crater.buut for.13£ not bad
Massive let down
A course with so much potential is being neglected.
If you even make it down the driveway with your car intact you are welcomed with a scowl by staff.
Greens with large patches with no grass and fairways/bunkers given no attention.
Has potential to be a great course but owners clearly don’t care. Not bothered about giving any sort of experience to players, clubhouse is like a ghost town!
Plenty of courses nearby which are so much better! Played it plenty of times and enjoyed it, now gone massively downhill! Avoid! Will not be playing again.
Forest Grange
Hugely overgrown rough all over. 5/6 holes around the green were highly overgrown and not much fun to play at all. Shame really as if maintained properly this would be a really nice course. Greens were very patchy been played better than they looked
