A good walk NOT spoilt
I have played this course on a couple of occasions and decided I would invite a friend who hadn't played here before to have a round of golf. Given the amount of heavy rain of recent we found the course to be in excellent condition and the greens were also in superb condition.
As men in our 60th year we managed to get around the course without too much difficulty and had a pleasant day. More inclines than hills.
My friend did make a valid comment that had he have played this course alone or with someone who had also not played the course before, it wasn't signed very well on one or two of the holes where the next tee box was ( 2nd to 3rd hole being one example ). And given there were few golfers around there was no one to offer a bit of friendly advice.
One other minor point, the air cleaning equipment wasn't working. I could not comment on the off course amenities. Hope this is helpful.
Unblemished greens, like a carpet
Played today for the first time. Pleasantly surprised. Played great which increased the enjoyment but the course was a treat either way.
I saw a review from yesterday saying the greens were the worst ever played which prompted me to respond with this review. The only local greens better than these at the moment are Bolton Old Links and if those are your scene then crack on. Must be a masochist.
I was hitting the ball straight off the tee but the narrow tree lined holes over the road could punish if you are having an off day. The course isn't too long though so a hybrid or long iron wouldn't leave you too far back on most holes.
Slight negatives; no rakes in bunkers (the one I went in was well raked), signage not always clear (directions were given by the shop assistant). Pin position on one hole was like crazy golf, no need for it and won't help slow play.
Overall enjoyable experience and, for the price, I will certainly be back. Looking forward to the true greens already :)
greens are horrific
First time playing the course on 25/07/2023 and the course is really nice fairways lovely and all that stuff but the greens are shocking the worst ive ever played and the flag sticks jesus dont get me started, also there is no rakes in the bunkers because apparently they get stolen all the time, so that says alot, i would avoid if i was you much nicer courses close by.
Good course but needs better maintenance
Good course, some picturesque holes and challenging ones. Friendly people. Good facilities. Course does need better maintenance, club needs to invest in more groundsmen
Good day at Great Lever
We have played here many times and always enjoy our time here.
When we started at 10.30 the course was fairly quiet but we did notice a few groups a few holes behind us.
The pace of play was good and were never waiting on a tee or holding up anyone behind us.
Coffee and flapjack afterwards complete the experience.
Little Gem!
Second time played here in last 2 months and for the price its a belter. Green staff have the fairways in great condition and the greens are some of the best ever in the North West. Course isn't massively long but it's got a number of holes that require some thinking about.and don't think I have played a course that starts and finishes on a par 3.
Staff are very welcoming and offer any advice if needed and it's genuinely a gem of a course and at £14.99 midweek it's well worth the value and more!
Undergoing improvements
I've played this course in summer and I know it is a great course however at the minute there are several GUR's (bunkers, greens, tee's). Staff and amenities are good and cant be knocked. Bring on the nice weather and hope to return in the summer.
Brilliant for time of year
Belting conditions for time of year, not at all stutchy or boggy under foot fairways cut nice and greens okay for Jan/Feb.
For a 10er an absolute steal
Conditions
The staff where very friendly. However we had to start on hole 3. The condition of the course was very poor The worst we've seen. The whole course is under water. It made for a frustrating day
