Value for Money
Having heard that Haydock GC was rated as a good course and that our group (4 of us) had not played it before we thought we would give it a try, and we where not disappointed. The fairways, which where in good condition considering the amount of rain the night before are reasonably generous in width, though if you do stray to much from the fairway/ semi-rough then you will, as it should be penalized. bunkers you will come across, along with being strategically placed around the greens.
When it comes to the bunkers, James Braid the course designer was a masochist, that whilst the bunkers have plenty of quality sand, the bunkers are deep compared to most other bunkers you will come across, along with being strategically placed around the greens, thus you need either to lay up or land on the green.
The greens where in very good condition - very few plug marks - and ran true.
The course is a combination of straight and dogleg holes, and whilst the majority of the greens are "flat" there are a couple of greens that require large borrows.
Overall the course makes you continually think your drive, approach and putting, and as such we will be returning to Haydock GC in the next couple of weeks.
The only minor negatives are that: due to the age of the club there are a couple of places where holes cross each other, and that like a lot of courses there is a lack of signage indicating to someone new to the course where the next tee etc is.
Fantastic club
Course is in fabulous condition, greens are perfect and the course is laid out to challenge all golfers . The staff are very friendly, all in all we had a great days golf at what I think is one of the best courses in the area.
Great 5star hot deal
played this course a few times and although pace of play was slow, the greens and fairways are in fantastic condition can't wait to play it again
,Excellent but tricky
First time at Haydock, as two visitors played with member Gary who guided us around the course advising where to play or avoid.
Excellent fast and tricky greens.
Only problem was pace of play with a very slow fourball in front who dropped 3 holes on the group in front of them!!
Lovely course in great nick, lots of trees but rough wasn't punishing.
Didn't cover myself in glory scorewise but an enjoyable day. Would definitely recommend.
Pace of play
The course is in excellent condition; greens fast which I like. The only negative thing was the amount of people on the course I have never seen so many people on a course having to wait at every tee and sometimes 2 groups waiting.
Haydock Park
Great course, well maintained. I’m relatively new to golf, and this course is great as there aren’t many place you can lose your ball. The rough is quite short, and there aren’t many water hazards. The greens are probably the best I’ve played on.
narrow fairways
the course was in great condition very busy but i rearly enjoyed it even though my game was crap
Hidden Gem
Excellent course, really good condition with great layout and a real challenge. Nice clubhouse however shut currently but well stocked pro shop and friendly staff
Great course
Played for the first time but will definitely be going again, highly recommend
Good course
Played today 14/09/2020 joined up to make a four ball. The course is in great condition and members and visitors very friendly. I would recommend this course.
Entitled members
Very busy but understandable due to nice weather. As a two ball be caught up a four ball of members who were the slowest golfers I’ve ever come across. Despite the back log behind them they refused to let anybody through throughout the round.
We had to skip 4 holes just to get past which completely ruined our experience. Will not be returning.
Good Challenge, Course in great cpndition
Excellent course in great condition, some challenging holes for a high handicap like myself. Absolute bargain for just over £15.
