Newcastle united golf club should not have been open ......... water lying on the course , knee deep in mud, , bunkers full of water,,, the greens looks like treatment had started and abandoned. i have played at my course Ryton today it was like Augusta compared to Newcastle united.
Great course
Considering the weather recently, the course was in fantastic condition. Playing there again next week 🙌🏻
Not the course, the members
Played on a Saturday and got stuck behind the competition. I know they don’t have to let you through but when they’re taking average 10 shots per hole there needs to be consideration for other golfers. Also, you can’t go off the course for 10 mins after the 9th and then expect me to wait. 4hrs for a 2 ball on a reduced length course.
Course was ok but still recovering from the weather and was worth what was paid
Should not be open
Played today having booked 18 holes via golf now. Turned up to find only 13 holes were open due to waterlogging but we could still use trollies (WHY?). All of the front 9 were open but we needed chest waders and wellies just to walk up the fairways. Every shot plugged into the slop even on the greens. The 90° rule applied and had to play from the rough but the fairways were that long in length you couldnt define what was the rough and what was the fairway.
Very straight and very flat, not challenging.
Water logged course
Course should not be open, too much water on too many holes. 4 holes closed but nothing stated during booking process, too many other holes were impassable. no course map and navigating the holes was not always obvious. Fairways cut too long (expected because of the standing water). The course has very few obstacles, most holes are simply open straight fairways to a green. Staff in the shop were great, very friendly. Played front 9 and then gave up with muddy trousers and blistered toes. Cheaper courses in the area are a much better standard.
Value for money
This course has always been value for money, excellent course and brilliant greens for a little over £10 a round.
Course was better than expected during the middle of January with only two temporary greens through 18.
Summer Course
I’ve played here many a time through the summer and it’s a great little course to play with good weather with a few challenging holes.
However I played for the first time in the winter here and I walked off after 9 (only 12 holes were open anyway) the course should have been closed. I understand winter golf is usually poor in the UK but this was terrible. Not a single green open, par 5’s reduced to distances of short par 4’s, fairways entirely water logged. GUR’s were literally just a hole dug out of the fairway. Wasted my time entirely playing, should have gone to a range.
Staff were very friendly though
What used to be a good course….
It’s a shame to see the state that Newcastle United Golf Club is in right now. I’ve always liked playing up there the odd couple of times in previous years but I think this will be my last visit for a while. I understand that weather plays its part and the weather so far this year has been terrible but the course is generally ran down. All bunkers GUR and baldy greens. Losing balls on the fairway due to it not being cut down and or balls plugging in sodden patches all over the course. Unable to ring bells on holes due to snapped instrument. There was also a temporary green on which we weren’t informed of nor was there any info on website or course conditions when ringing up to book. All in all I feel robbed of £20 to be honest and it’s such a shame as it was once a lovely inland links course to play.
Good Friday
Decent condition for the weather we’ve had recently, friendly staff . 4 holes not playable and a bit boggy on certain fairways. Expected for winter golf. Good day out with mates
Windy
Wind was the main thing when we played. Nothing anyone could do about the weather but it spoiled the round. Lovely to play proper greens at this time of year, fairways were OK if a bit wet.
For the time of the year the course was in fairly good condition,
The course was in fairly good condition, I did think that the course was boring as most holes were just straight with very few challenges apart from rolling bumps on most fairways, found it hard to keep interested and walked after 14th
Good course
The course was good and the staff were helpful . Good variety of layout and easy to get around.
Well worth the money.
Hit lucky on the day. Apart from a ladies competition there was barely a handful of people on the course. I think the weather may of frightened a few off. Course was in good order only thing that let it down was the greens had just been holotined so were a bit slow and unpredictable other than that the fairways were immaculate and quite firm given the monsoons we have been having lately. Staff were excellent in the shop and the bar and the price for a Saturday afternoon game was very reasonable. If you haven't played here before it is well worth a shot.
The greens were hollow tined and sanded on the morning that we played which made the overall experience very disappointing for was generally a nice course. We were not made aware of the greens maintenance and because we’d booked online, felt obliged to play regardless of the conditions. The value for money rating is purely down to greens maintenance on the day of play.
Undulating Fairways
A great morning of golf.
The undulating fairways were a challenge and not favourable for beginner golfers. We will play the course again once our standard of play has improved. Not great on the knees ..
Handily location, friendly staff and reasonably priced.
Excellent no frills course
Nice course with wide open fairways. Some holes quite crumpled but we didn't think this a problem. Course in excellent condition (we had a dry, sunny day). We would play here again.
Great course
Course in great condition, a bit of a hidden gem very close to the city centre. Pace of play was great at three hours. Some really challenging holes, rough was punishing but fairways weren't tight.
Nope
Didn’t rack cut/dead grass in light ruff if I went just off fairway ball lost
