Don't waste your time or your money
We've played this course maybe 10 - 15 times in the past year and have watched it steadily go into disrepair. The don't generate enough revenue to do even the most basic of maintenance. The building needs repairs and painting, the teeboxes are full of weeds, the fairways are bare in many places and full of weeds, and many of the greens need major attention. The entire place needs to be mowed, treated for weeds and fertilized. The mowers must be broken because they haven't been used in some time, and the bunkers are so hard the grooming machine could only make scratch marks in the surface. The trash cans at the tee boxes are full, and sometimes tipped over. It wouldn't take alot to at least clean it up and make some cosmetic improvements. We not returning, there are too many courses in the area with decent prices and much better conditions.
Nice scenary/layout, awful greens
Impossible to 1 putt due to the quality of green, 0 consistency, not true at all. Avoid
The layout is awesome
Texas National is a challenging golf course. The only issue I had this outing were the greens. They were splotchy on the edges and some crab grass included. Overall the course played great. The rough was high and really gave you a challenge when playing out of it. The tee boxes were fair but on some holes missing some of the tee markers. All in all it was well worth the money I spent to play.
Great venue & value, exceeded my skills
I was attending professional training in the area and booked my tee time on a whim. The hot deal was amazingly low and helped defray the cost of the balls this course ate. I never felt rushed on this course, but I sure felt out of my skill level. Fear not, I'll continue to work on my game and I shall return!
Disappointed
I've played this course many times in the past and always enjoyed it. I don't know what happened.
The range was always poor but now it's worse. Greens are fast but bumpy and I lost balls in the rough. It's a good place for a practice round of driving and hitting irons to small greens, at GN Hot Deals prices but that's about it. I hope some maintenance is done because it is an enjoyable track
Girl in the shop was very nice let me tee off on 10 and I was done in under 3 hrs.
Fair Course
Nicer courses around this area, but if you can get a great hot deal it will be all this course is good for. Most of the greens are shaved fairway grass, but do roll good. This course has seen its' days. Remembered when this course was top notch, not now!
good course but a little rough
Have played here many times over the last 15 years, and have always enjoyed it. challenging layout and friendly staff. that being said, the course could use some TLC. tee boxes and fairways could use mowing, and the some of the greens had some bad spots that need work, but that wont deter me from going back. I like this course.
Texas National is Awesome
The course is a little run down but it was fun. They had some awesome hamburgers and the staff was very friendly. I liked that we were never pushed.
Fun layout, good price.
Found this one for $10 on GN and couldn't pass up a round for that price. Played this course last summer and was hoping conditions were a little better. Tee boxes need some love but not terrible. Fairways were the roughest, I was in the fairway a lot and still had some bad lies. Greens were FAST. I think they were pushing 11 and many of then have a lot of undulation. I really like the layout but the course needs someone with deep pockets to make it perfect.
Sunday Tee Time
Well from the get go my friend and I noticed that all over the course the grass had grown up and had not been cut in the past week. The grass on some of the tee boxes were as high as my ball on the tee itself. For $40 a round I found this to be completely unforgivable. Paying this much per game I would expect much better conditions. Also most of the greens were almost noting but dirt. I couldn't read the breaks or ball paths on the putting surfaces because there was no grain to the little grass that was there.
What Happen?
I have played this course many times over the past 10 years and this was the worst condition I have seen this course in. Mats on the driving range. Weeds growing up around the t-boxes. Several greens that were in very bad shape. A majority of the fairways were in decent condition, but several were having major issues. If it hadn't been for the discounted rate that I paid, I would have felt ripped off. Will be awhile before I return. Normally I would recommend this course, but not in its current state.
Fallen on tough times . . .
Have driven 60 mi to play this course several times in the past. Love the challenging layout, and the different type of terrain than most Houston area courses is great.
HOWEVER . . . unless you can get a good online deal, the course is not worth it at this time. Fairways are either meadows, or bald spots. Complete lack of maintenance. The greens are better, but only about half of them. The others are spotty, at best. The traps are decently kept up.
I give the course conditions a "C-" or a "D." It's no where near worth their rack rate they charge, but I will return at least once more this year when I can get a good online deal.
It's a shame how far this course has fallen . . .
Same tired course
Was hopeful to find Texas National in better shape than last year and was disappointed to find the course already looking dried out with bare fairways and weeds everywhere. Greens were hard and brown. I've played this course several times over the last 40 years and really like the layout. Some very challenging holes. It is sad to see this course in such poor condition.
Relaxed fun with value
We had fun talking to folks. Men were in Vietnam War same base. Women chatted while groups played through. No pressure.
Fairways needed water and tee boxes were in bad shape.
Haven't played this course since 1996, it's a tough course fairways and trees no room for error. Greens were dry and fast, fairways were not in the best of shape. I had a weekday membership in 96 and walked and carried my sticks, couldn't do that now. I will play it again but leave the driver in the bag and play for position.
casual value
Course is in good shape for early season a little patchy in a few locations.casual pace of play and good value for the money. Good food and a beverage cart on the weekend.
Golfp
Pace is too slow the locals don't respect anyone else's time and the staff should make pace move. Where's the marshall
Great deal
The course was in great shape and you can't beat the price. Friendly staff and everyone there was kind and courteous.
Nice track but needs improvment
Overall I like the layout of the course and have played it 5-10 times. The greens are fast but some are not maintained around the collar. My biggest problem is the lack of grass in the fairway. I don't think I have ever been able to play a shot without moving it to a nearby patch of grass. Good value though. Hope this helps!
needs a lot of work
on the plus side, it was a nice layout and you could imagine it was once a nice golf course.
on the negative side , tee boxes were terrible, fairways worse and greens even more worse if thats possible.
not worth the time, not worth the price at under $20
too bad, it could be a nice course
