Good course but overpriced
This is a good golf course, there is a lovely feel when you drive through the gates up to the club house and the greenkeepers are doing a great job. £60 for a green fee is overpriced though. £30 would be a fair price to pay. Quite a flat course until you get to 13,14,15 which become a bit up and down. 18th is a lovely finishing hole. Definitely a more traditional vibe to the place and membership.
super greens
5 star greens... easily the best I have played on in a very long time, even though it was late April, they were quick and true, probably stimping around 10.5 / 11. Generally a very good layout, quite open and wide, fairways were still a bit on the heavy side post the winter season and I can see why people say the course plays very wet in winter.
some stand out holes, are 5 and 6, the wonderfull 13th (par 3) over a large pond, and 18th, a really good finisheing hole.
Food and drink apres golf was also very good, locker rooms were a little on the old and tired side, but still perfectly functional. Its a good long walk... and the pace was slow ( 4:41... mainly due i guess to a society of very mixed ability in front of us)
A Shropshire gem
When you arrive and drive up the approach road the course is laid out for you to see and it wets the appetite to get out there and have a go.
Plenty of visitor space in visitor car park which is well signed. The pro shop no so well signed is accessed through the main building front door.
This was the only bad point as the pro shop was closed due to staff shortage.
The club secretary was the placexwe had to eventually go to to get signed in but very smooth process.
Had to buy water and snacks from main bar due to pro shop issue.
With it being a very warm afternoon that was a worry.
Putting green outside shop was standard and looked to represent the course well. Didn't have time to practice due to arrival at club and delay getting signed in.
Did not see any driving range , there are driving nets next to first tee to get loose ready for the off.
The first setscthe tone for the course. Slight dog leg left to right to a small green well protected.
Every hole is tree lined so if you stray you will be chipping out. Some stunning mature oaks are a major part of the layout and force you to accept the punishment should you stray.
Big hitters will like to take on the 4th but it's a small green.
Talking of greens they were difficult to hold if you land on them. Sometimes we thought we had hit perfect shots only to see them bounce on then roll off . But that's just course knowledge and experience you need by playing it half a dozen times.
No half way house open so no drink or snack top ups. Better to take your own items to be safe.
Back nine sets off with a criss cross with 11th. So watch for players on that tee .
You keep going and get to final stretch. 14 onwards
Long holes and difficult index
14 , 16 and par 3 17th all up hill which saps your last remaining stamina.
18th great finishing hole dogleg right to left. How brave are you on the last to fly the corner.
Both myself and playing partner, me off 11 and him off 19, played the course without loosing a ball, which was very rewarding.
Bad points
Bunkers, the only one I was in had no sand to allow the club to slide under the ball. So sculled it across the green. Playing partner reported the same in the bunkers he was in.
No water points, pro shop or half way house. This was much needed due to the weather which was very warm.
Good points
Club house very smart. Staff and members very friendly too
Course stunning layout
Already recommended course to friends and planning a return before end of year.
Lived up to its reputation
A really good mixture of challenging holes, nice views and forgiveness. The course has been keep to a very high standard and we would happily come back. Hopefully play a bit better with some better course knowledge
Nice course some testing holes for distance my level enjoyed
Slow play
Really poor etiquette from some club members and other golfers today. Not come across this previously. Made the front 9 two hours to get round and refused to let us through at any point.
Will not judge anyone on standard Of golf but if it’s taking you nearly 10 shots to get to the green on a short par 4, please let the others through.
Not the clubs fault and other than possibly increased spacing not much they can do.
Course good and enjoyable as always. Once slow players disappeared at the half way point.
New Course discovery
First time round, friendly welcome. Great course. Well maintained and a joy to play.
Beautiful Course
The greens are immaculate and it's a stunning place to play.
Twlight golf
Got an invite from a member to play there , tee'd off at 5:30 . A 4 ball in front let us through after 4 holes on a par 5 ( managed to hit a straight one pheww ) .
Golf course was in excellent condition although the 1st cut of rough was very long and difficult to find your ball if strayed off the fairway . Greens were true , a little hard and covered in a fine coating of sand .
The reference to twlight was when driving straight into the sun made it extremely difficult to locate ball path and then almost impossible to find your ball .
To summarise, hit it straight next time .
Superd
I had not visited this course for some 5 years or so and whilst I always had fond memories I had forgotten the fact that this has to be one of the best courses in my opinion in the area.
The course was as expected in the most fantastic condition not that I expected anything else and the greens particularly have to be the best I have played on this year and I do travel around a bit.
The course will allow abilities of all levels a wonderful experience but also is a strong test for lower handicappers who take it on as many dangers lurk for a slightly wayward shot.
Honestly a visit here will never leave you dissapointed and it's well worth putting in a few miles for a day out Outstdanding!!!.
