Super wet fairways
The day before and the tee off day were sunny. I was informed only 15 holes in play and wet fairways. Not surprised to me! I had experienced of hitting golf in wet fairway but never thought so worst. I was hardly to find a dry path to approach my ball during the whole game. I saw excess water was unable to penetrate into the ground and a new pond was added in hole 8, Besides, it was quite exhausting for walking to hole 9’and 10. Layout of the course is good for fresh golfer because no up and down hilly fairway.
shouldnt have been open
course was very wet, too wet to be able to play a round to be honest. needs a month of no rain for it to be playable
greens were the only part of the course not completely soaked
played many times before but never been that bad, doesnt seem like the drainage if any is working
Not worth playing in winter
Arrived at the course to be told at four of the holes are closed, and it was mandatory to use a mat on the fairway and the rough!
Course was incredibly waterlogged on every hole to the point that bowls were plugging on virtually every shot and hard to find.
I thought I’d give styal another chance as it was in poor condition. Last time I played a few years ago. Will not be playing here again and do not recommend this course even in the summer. It’s fairly boring and Flat.
An extremely wet course in October
Having booked the round two days before and the weather looking good, we were looking forward to the day.
£25 for Monday morning seemed a little high but having played the course in the summer we were prepared to pay it.
When we arrived we were told that the course was just about playable. Large areas of the course were very wet and in some places a quagmire. What we hadn’t been told was that holes 14,15 and 16 were in fact closed. We ploughed our way round, mud splattered and manage to finish in four hours (minus the two holes).
It was disappointing to pay £25 and not to be told in advance that there were hole closures. Needless to say we won’t play a Styal again beyond the end of September.
I would recommend the course but not between September and March.
N/A
Very dissatisfied for eighteen holes only to discover no play on 15 16,17. Yet going into the club shop no member of staff informed me I couldn't play 18 holes discovered by signage placed at hole 15. This isn't what I paid for and rather unprofessional for the golf staff not to inform me.
The course can be difficult at this time of year but wasn't fit for purpose very disappointed
Boggy
Walked off after 9 holes. Yes it had been raining the days previous so expected some soft ground but this seemed better suited to pigs than golfers. Would not recommend if wet. Course layout good though so imagine in bone dry conditions it could be a good course
Great Course
Have played here a few times over the years. It's always in good, if not great condition. It's a credit to the ground staff.
DO NOT BOOK
We booked this course on a 'Hot Deal' this weekend. I have played before and the course itself is nice. However, there is a 9 hole, Par 3 course also here (which has a separate page to book on). I booked through the main course's page, only to be told we were playing on the Par 3 because it's captains day. £22 a person as a 'Hot Deal' for a 9 hole par 3 course which is ordinarily £14 a person, absolutely ridiculous. I called GolfNow who refused to do anything about it in terms of credit or refund - will not be using the service again.
Great Day
It was very nice, the course was in good condition and the weather was good. Thanks
Challenging Course
This is a challenging course with some tricky holes. Well worth a visit, has a driving range to warm up on and a clubhouse for refreshments at the end.
Styal 18
First time I’ve played this course. Tricky 4th hole with thick rough. Greens were well kept. Overall really enjoyed it. Take lots of balls!
Good course worth playing
Decided last minute to play Styal GC as was in the area. Good practice facilities, driving range. Friendly welcome in pro shop. Course in good nick, greens a little slow but true. Need to plot around on few holes, negotiate trees. Flat course, easy walk round, good signage. Worth playing for sure.
Styal gc
Great condition greens poor though a good challenge recommended easy on the legs bunkers good would play again bit pricey but they all are now ....
Nice course
Gr8 day GPS watch didn't work but very nice track. Will recommend to our society..
Marple
Fairways were fine and staff very friendly however the quality of the greens were so poor we couldn’t really score our own round and on some holes didn’t bother putting. There had been some annual work clearly being done on the greens which we understood and accepted however not including this there were still big patches on the green and no putts ran true which slightly spoiled the round and we felt this was poor value for money.
Pleasant Parkland Course
Course in good condition.
Play was a bit slow due to a golf society ahead with no etiquette in view pace of play etc…
Course could probably do with a few more bunkers around greens.
Overall pleasant surroundings , pleasant staff and would recommend.
Styal golf club
Recommend only one downer teeing off mats and couldn't get teei in right height mats worn out ended up teeing at the side on the grass ...
Opportunities and challenges
Generally open fairways, some testy greens and pin positions. Well maintained fairways and greens, the rough is grabby and run into the rubbish and your ball is gone. A very good course and facility, the bar always a welcome sight.
