Poor winter course

Had to play front nine twice. Back nine closed! More expensive for our 3 ball which narks a little. 2 more mature gentleman holding up more than 20 or more golfers who got fed up and didn't go round the nine holes again. Drainage has always been an issue in the winter, even back 20 years! Great scenery though.

Bad timing good course

I like the layout of the Staffordshire you need to plot your way around it. Unfortunately there was a large society out just ahead of us so it was very slow and it rained for nearly the entire round. Some temporary greens and hollow tining had recently been carried out on the main greens so bad timing on our part. That’s one of the problems with golf now booking you don’t know about these issues in advance. Calling the club to book you can get this information before booking

Great course - but not for beginners

I appreciate it’s a fantastic course, nice greens and well looked after.

I personally struggled as a beginner to the sport - the fairways are quite tight and unforgiving. That said it offers a challenge and was certainly character building, if nothing else it has given me more experience in recovery.

If you’re a competent golfer I’m sure this is well worth a visit, I had a great day albeit I left with a high score - due to my own level of ability.

Being at the end of February i get the greenkeepers want to protect the course but there was no reason to be on temp greens for the round. Other than that fab!

Amazing

This course is absolutely stunning, I enjoyed every hole on there. There’s some lovely views on a few holes, some long some short par 4’s, tough par3’s there really was a great mix of holes but on every hole you had to think about your shots (which I love) instead of just smashing them on your typical flat open courses. My only fault with the course was the pace of the greens I know it had rained but they were terribly slow, you were really having to hit putts really hard they weren’t breaking much and even the downhill putts wouldn’t roll like you’d expect, may I add the greens condition was emasculate just the pace. I will be returning to this course for sure and would highly recommend it to anyone

Fair test for every level of golfer

Tight fairways but with playable rough and trees if you really hit a bad one. Lovely course layout with some excellent holes. Stunning location.

Course great, Members let it down.

Played the course today, even with the bad weather we have had the course was in decent condition and very playable.
Unfortunately the attitude of some of the members is atrocious, if you are new to the game or are a decent human being I’d steer clear.

Old Swindon golf club

Last time I played here it was known as Swindon golf club.. Forgot what a lovely course it was... Very challenging for a shortish course, but really enjoyed it. Nice fairways and green's, lot's of trees!!!

On this occasion....disappointing.

I was disappointed that we were playing on all temporary greens. This hardly seemed necessary as the conditions were good; it had been dry for several days and last Friday was a bright, sunny day. I wonder if the management were saving the course for the weekend?
If we had known in advance we would have decided not to play The Staffordshire. It felt like a waste of money .....and time.

Autumn leaves

Everything excellent, what a shame about the pace of play, 4.5 hours, members do not let you play though! No golf etiquette, very strange

Once a nice track

This was once a really nice track, there are some very interesting holes, and like many shorter courses, it how you get round more often than just a case of hit it hard and hit it straight. The biggest bug bear is the general condition of the course and the noise coming off the 19th as you tee up on the 10th.
14 is a great par 4... all uphill onto a plateau green. Two really good full carry hits to make the green

Poor course

Played recently the greens were part submerged with large pools of water and the fairways were in poor condition. On the subject of fairways the vast majority are on a steep slope with very few flat areas, I would not recommend this course to anyone.

Excellent overall experience

Great Course, friendly staff. Course was in good condition challenging throughout with good quick greens. Only negative would be that most of the bunkers could use more sand my playing partner chipped his wedge on underlying bricks in 1 bunker!!!

Would play again definitely
