Longhills on the way back
Changes since addition of apartments is noticable on holes 5-9, but does not change the simple layout philosophy. I saw some complaints about the lack of fairway yardage markers, but with the various free smart phone golf GPS apps, there is little to be concerned about. Several holes of back 9 wind through the very nice houses that are beyond Longhills' swimming pool. Course provides lots of opportunities for birdies when you hit a nice drive, but if you want to use more of your clubs, teeing off with a "lesser" club can provide a different approach. Bermuda fairways are nicely mowed. Hitting it under the trees, near out of bounds will introduce players to some red clay patches where grass doesn't grow well because of the tree shade. Greens are firm, roll smoothly, but most could use some TLC. I'm sure the course superintendent would welcome the addition of some sand bottles on carts to fill iron divots. Regular rates for both cart & walkers are reasonable, but the more than 50% saving offered by GolfNow tee times make the decision to play Longhills. For those who played Longhills under the management of Jeff Hamm or Bill Martin, you ought to play it again - at least to reminise the good old days & support the continuation of public golf in the Benton area.
Worst golf course in central Arkansas
really poor layout ,the fairways are like hitting out of the rough the greens are in horrible condition. Extremely overpriced for what you get ,save your money and go play in a cowpasture you would be better off
Needs work
The course has potential, but the greens are horrible. I think in a year or so if they put the money into the course like they did the apartments it will be a really nice track.
Course Layout
Staff was very nice and pace was awesome! Tee boxes need work and yardage signs are incorrect..... the holes yardage are much shorter. Also no fareway yardage markers which made it tough for us to select right club.... it's a Must! Course not included on app Map Tracking.
Reopen of a public course needed in the area
The course has been renovated and re-opened by a company that operates a regional chain of apartments with associated golf courses. The greens were mostly in excellent shape. The front nine fairways/rough are in need of attention; which is where the new apartments have been built. To be fair; the fall season is partly responsible for the front nine issues of debris. Holes 5 through 8 are new so the original layout is mostly the same. Pace of play may get affected with heavy usage due to close proximity of some greens/tee boxes with the redesign. The company's other regional courses are well maintained; so eventually this will be a fairly decent course. $34 to ride on weekday; $44 on Fri,Sat,Sun; before sales tax. The company has been a good local steward by leaving it as a public course and offering to continue junior golf programs from the past. Very little water and not a lot of sand. The original course didn't have a sprinkler system so there is not dense turf on the fairways....meaning tight lies. Pro shop staff were very friendly. I will play it again at the weekday rate which is fair for the area. Almost $50 for the weekend rate is too expensive for the layout and quality. I would give the course a 4 rating if the price stayed around $35 for weekends and they clean up the front nine fairways/rough. Fairly easy to walk and the walking rate makes it a better value.
This is an biased comment by someone who obviously was out of position on the course probably in the trees where there is little grass and doesn't understand how hard it is to get good greens fast
