Player at Lyman Orchards Golf Club
About
Lyman Orchards is a popular Connecticut destination most known for the nearly 100 varieties of pick-your-own fruit but it also offers two championship 18-hole golf courses and a nine-hole course. One of the longer courses was designed by Gary Player and the other by Robert Trent Jones. Lyman Orchards' Player Course is a seemingly mild 6,600 yards from the tips but don't let the yardage fool you, this layout is a tough but fair test. There are over 30 bunkers strategically placed along the small greens and deciduous trees and beautiful white pines line the fairways. Routed through the orchards across gently rolling hills, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The terrain provides the course with plenty of ups and downs, as well as great views, especially on the 11th and 13th holes.

The third hole is a brutal par-4 that plays over a brushy, deep pit. The view here looks backward down the fairway, toward the abyss. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/24/2023

At the par-4 sixth, the fairway “runs out” alongside the green, where most pitch shots will be blind down the the putting surface (situated to the left, out of view). Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/24/2023

Very disappointed
First time playing here in 3 years due to shoddy course conditions. Unfortunately, it's gotten worse. #3 overgrown to Amazon jungle heights. Large, dead bare spots on 8, 15, and (incredibly) greenside on number 17. Tee boxes are chopped up. Good luck finding a place to tee off on #4. Combine course conditions with price gouging virus prices that never came down and this course is an absolute "avoid at all costs". I'd give it zero stars if I could. Embarrassing
Good time.
Great price (which often causes some friends to opt to play elsewhere). Very good pace of play. Was joined by a staff member that was off duty. He was terrific. Will definitely play the course again.
Player 6/17/22
Course is tough with many blind holes. Played with a HS player who has this as his home course. Still was tough navigating on hilly terrain and blind shots. Greens were decent.
Need Local Knowledge
The Player Course has lots of blind shots. I played alone for the first time and it was tough to navigate. You can’t even see a fairway from the 3rd tee. I hit several shots that I thought were good but went into oblivion. You need a knowledgeable partner or local experience. Otherwise, condition was good and staff super friendly.
Carts lock up in the middle of fairway with no signs telling you to back up
The course has so many blind holes.
Gps does not show where other carts are so you can’t see where to go or if anyone is still ahead of you
Signage poor can’t find where to go to next when the cartpath forks
Carts lock up in the middle of fairway 100+ yards away from green with no warning or reason
Would not recommend
We are intermediate golfers shooting 82-90 from white and blues respectively and hated it.

Very nice course with scenic views. Each hole on the Player course has its own challenges. Many downhill and uphill shots. Challenging but easy Par 5s. Very nice course for the money.
Grass Needs Work
I’ve played here before and really enjoyed it, but not so much this time. I lost more balls a few feet/yards off the fairway than I ever have before. Rough was super long and clippings were left to die in clumps. Plenty of mowed-over golf ball remnants say I’m not the only one to experience this.
