Slow and hot
Today I was paired with a family in which no one could legitimately hit the ball. I waited on them to hit three shots for every one of mine. When I arrived at the first tee, there were two foursomes who had yet teed off. I watched both of the groups in front of me literally take 45 minutes to play the first two holes. Though we started out on a 9 hour round pace, we managed to "speed" up to a 6 hour round pace by the time we made the turn to the back nine. All told, it took 5 hours of waiting and watching the groups in front of me slog their way around the course shot by painstaking shot. The coupe de grace of the day was watching EACH one of the foursome in front of me take two tee shots off the 18th tee as my round completely disintegrated. I saw a "ranger" type dude once on the sixth hole and his presence did nothing to improve the pace of play. If I wasn't waiting 10-15 minutes on each shot in 90+ degree heat, I would have enjoyed today a lot better. Be aware that a bunch of people who think they can play golf call this course home. For a single-digit handicapper like myself, it was excruciating trying to keep my concentration and rhythm.
WOW! Perfect Condition! Best course we played all year!
WOW! Played today 6/18/2021 and it is in PERFECT CONDITION and is an AMAZING Golf Course! 10 out of 10! The Arlington Seniors Golf Club played here 2 times this week and everyone truly enjoyed it! Craig "The Club Pro" is super nice and very helpful, too! We will be back for sure!

almost back to great condition
It's almost back to superb conditions. The greens needed mowing and rolling. But great to see much of the bare spots and fairways have returned to the original condition. I don't like the moving the old 18th hole to be 16th hole. The new 18th is a tough finishing hole with that big barranca...just make sure you play the appropriate tee for your driving length...played with people who just didn't have the length to play the gold tees ad finally moved up near the end of round. Great elevation changes and wide fairways...as expected the new 16th is a bit easier with the bunker changes. Townhouses everywhere on 16.....I think next to Laurel hills the best range in the area....just needs a better chipping area....and yes it's pricey...look for deals and afternoon rates...great clubhouse and wonderful veranda to eat on or post round drinks.
Great course!
As always, Potomac Shores was in great condition. Unfortunately, because of the time of year, as to be expected, the greens were aerated and sanded, but you can tell it will be in fantastic shape in a couple of weeks. We still had a great time and the guys I played with thoroughly enjoyed the course. It was their first time playing the course and they all swore they'd be back to play it when it's in peak form. Enjoyed the round and the course and looking forward to a great season when the course is at peak!
Horrible condition
It had been 3 years since we played Potomac Shores, primarily because the last time it was in poor condition. I saw a deal time on Golfnow and thought, maybe they’re improved. I was very wrong. It beyond belief anyone is a member. The conditions are awful. The rough is completely inconsistent. The tee boxes inconsistent. And the greens, after being dressed, we so poor the starter actually said to us... make up your own rules on the greens. The layout is good. The people being paid to maintain this club should be fired. It’s almost insulting they have a price of over $100 for these conditions. It’s not worth more than $35. Worst conditions I’ve ever played in N Virginia.
Top course in VA
Phenomenal course all around. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens are kept to perfection. Free range balls as well. This course is the most professional course in the northern VA area. Highly recommend.
Cool challenge
First time there on a weekend morning but pace was good since they don’t cram tee times together like some places. In great shape considering fairways still dormant. Between the elevation changes and very windy conditions that day, was quite the challenge, esp front 9. Still fun though, would recommend.
Only suggestion, maybe offer something with a better look at the holes for first-timers. Could barely make out anything on the scorecard, pics were so tiny.
Not worth the drive
Played this course a year ago and had a great time. This time was not so fun. The course layout is fun enough, but the course was pretty beat up. Lots of mud spots and places in the rough with minimal grass. The real issue was the pace of play. We were only able to complete 15 holes in the 5 hours and 5 mins we played. I'm usually not a stickler for this, but it seemed to not be improve over the entire round. It would have taken us close to 6 hours to finish if we didn't run out of daylight.
Given the long drive to get their, the course condition and pace of play there is no way I could consider this course worth the cost. We may try it next year, but probably not because it takes forever to get there.
