Suprisingly Green
Course overall was in decent condition for this time of year. Leaves and grounds were maintained well. The only noticeable problem was how wet the course was on holes 7, 8, 10, and 18.
OK
Since Traditions has taken this course over it has gone downhill slightly. Used to be in better shape
Friendly but long
This course allows for a few arrant drives but is forgiving most of the time. It's a long course but so rewarding if you can keep it in the rough or partial fairway. Highly recommended.
Follow-up to previous review
Just for clarification. My below eview was based on conditions I saw in 2009 and 2010.... AND recent conversations with friends who played the course this fall.
Major improvement needed
I played this course once a week for over a year as a beginner player. I found it better maintained than the course I learned on but after playing other courses during that year I realized that this course needs major improvement and maintenance. It is not female friendly due to several holes that require long tee shots.
Several holes, are intimidating, especially the first as the tee shot from the whites is over a huge ravine. This same ravine and the brook that formed it come into play on several more holes. The course is challenging for this reason and is not friendly to short hitters off the tee. The brook that meanders throughout the course has eroded the fairways on the 8th and 10th holes making both holes more difficult than needed. Management knows about this issue but cannot get past the planning phase. The course is lacking simple, inexpensive amenities such as a new spike rack, yardage stakes (instead of lines painted on the cart paths), drinking water on the course (holders are already in place) and where they used to be and a price reduction equal to the value. I would like to play here again but until simple things are fixed I will not.
